Anyone who says Catalina deserved the gold in the Olympic floor final clearly didn't watch the event. Aly's routine was nearly perfect and was much more difficult than Catalina's routine. And when you file an appeal, you can only contest the difficulty score. You cannot challenge the execution score, so an inquiry from the Romanian team would not have changed anything. In order for Catalina to win, she would have needed an execution score higher than 9.4, which is unheard of in floor exercise. Just her twisting form alone was a high deduction, as well as the bad leg form on her second pass. The routine was beautiful, but not better than Aly's by any means.
Catalina didn't deserve the gold in Athens let alone in London, her form on fx in 04 was absolutely horrible like really horrible and for her to win gold then was a slap in the face to the ladies that had better form . Her landing were great in London but that form was still not the best plus aly had more difficulty
Ali Raisman is awesome. My favorite floor routine of all time. Flawless floor routine. The energy and the power. Perfectly executed. I love you so much Aly.
Unfortunately, it's going to be hard to find. The networks who air the olympics have rights to the footage and will take down anyones videos who post them. I think they only have rights for a certain amount of time, thats why 2008 olympic footage is available.
it used to be that you could take a step w/o deduction. that only applies in elite though in level 10 rules you can take a step. The jump is used to make it cleaner. its almost used to disguise extra power into a jump. does that help?
@LMA629 I was wondering the same thing originally, however it sounds like there's actually two tracks going... I wonder if they were trying to play one on the broadcast and it wasn't lining up with the live performance. It had the same problem with all the floor music all night.
I have a question for anybody "in the know" about gymnastics. I've noticed that Raisman and Douglas both do jumps at the end of passes. I wonder if that is to make it appear like a cleaner landing. Instead of jumping back to correct an imperfect landing, they just jump up and do splits. Is that part of why they do that?
The United States just has some amazing girls. It makes it so hard for girls to consider trying for multiple olympics, it's not like the girls coming up are getting worse, they are in fact continuing to get better! It's amazing to have been a gymnast for 18+ years and see the evolution of gymnastics and how far it's come! ... and now with only 5 spots... the team is even harder to decide! So many amazing choices between the newcomers and even the veterans!
I was there at it was fine. There was feedback in the NBC coverage for all the floor routines. Hope this never happens again because when I got back from the event and wanted to watch the coverage that aired on tv I found the feedback in the floor music distracting. Once again all music was perfect at the competition. This needs to be addressed with NBC.
A lot of people reference this "quote" of hers- do you have a vid or transcript of it? Because the interview I saw her do with Bob Costas during the Olympics indicated that she in no way intentionally picked this music two years ago with this in mind. She said she knew very little about the murders in '72, but was happy that her music coincided 40 yrs later. I would love to know what is accurate!
It won't let me post the link but if you go to the NBC olympics website and look under gymnastics you should be able to find the link to it pretty easily.
Just type in olympics in the search box and click on the channel and then click on London 2012. There you'll find all the women's gymnastics competitions and other sports.
i noticed on all the floor routines the music sounded like that, i think its just the way they recorded it for the tv broadcast or something, got messed up.
It gives the gymnast bonus points (one tenth) and covers up a step on landing. Personally i hate jumps out because its a cheap way to get points, but yes, it covers up a bad landing so you don't get a deduction
i would definitely like to see aly as team captain, actually. I think she is very composed and a very amicable personality. Shes not my favorite gymnast formwise, but she has a calmness to her that I think the entire team can benefit from.
For the people who don't know, Aly Raisman is Jewish. That's why she chose this music to express herself ☺️ Thanks to Aly, I'm less shy to show & express my origin.
Gosh. The acoustics are terrible in this arena! Do you hear the echo? It's really bad on Jordyn's routine too. But incredible tumbling. Wow on that first pass!
it isnt possible to do the floor routine with out that hop at the end you would break you legs if you just tried to land and not continue with your momentum they just cant leave the blue square
why on earth is the music playing on two different tracks, just a second or two apart? sooooo annoying to listen to, I'm headed to find a different video of this!
Depends on their preference, usually they change every year or few years. But if they do stick with the same music, they need to change elements in their routine or the choregraphy.
I was wondering that myself. It sounds as if it is playing twice, the second one just a little delayed. If it happened during competition, she held together really well.
I still can't believe people are saying Aly Raisman "took" Jordyn Wieber's spot. She obviously won it fair and square. From the very beginning everybody had their money on Jordyn Wieber but turns out Gabby Douglas and Aly Raisman made it to the all-around.
