pretty sure there was at least one year where 5 passes were required. i think chellsie mentioned it in one of her new training videos when talking abt old routines
The code counted more elements in this quad. Many of the gymnasts did 5 passes. Some put a double full or front full as a side pass, rather than the diagonal. A big criticism was that the amount of elements left no room for artistry.
She is indeed training and I couldn’t be more happier :)) I really hope she stays healthy enough to at least make it to nationals. Even if she doesn’t make the team, I would just love to see her compete at her best again, it would totally make a statement to Marta, a big F**k U for thinking my career was over at the 2016 classic.
Well I was there and what you have to realize is that unlike most competitions, this was NOT an event where people competed simultaneously. It was split up so that only two events happened during a given rotation, and only one gymnast performed at a time. So usually during a competition, people are focusing on different things, but at this competition each routine had everyone's full attention. Plus if I recall correctly this was at the end of the night on the final night (for men AND women - I was there all 4 nights and the men finished the night before so this was the end of Trials altogether) so we were all pumped up. The place went wild for each routine for the most part though!
I know Bela sucks but it always makes me smile to see him jump up like that for her because there was no camera in his face to ham it up for, I think he meant it. No matter what Marta thought about Chellsie, she was insanely talented and she NAILED that routine. I'm having so much fun watching her comeback! Go Chellsie!!
I literally just watched this and started crying at the end. To see this and also be watching her comeback so intently, I'm in complete awe of her and what a wonderful person and competitor she has been and still is. I can't wait to see where this comeback takes her!
Her injuries were a misfortune throughout her career, that's why, but despite all that she was right up there with them in terms of level and execution of gymnastics.
I have never seen a gymnast look so in control of these huge skills... her spacial awareness is absolutely fantastic. Ive never really been very aware of chellsie until recently, but she is absolutely outstanding... I am so impressed....
Wow i had goosebumps from the first pass to her last amazing double pike! This was amazing and i hate how her story ended but she is coming back and will be stronger than ever!!
This was such an incredible and iconic floor routine by Chellsie MEMMEL! I know that Ali Raisman received so much notoriety for her floor routines in the 2012 & 2016 Olympics. (and others) Chellsie’s Floor routine at the 2008 US Olympic Trials was so underrated!!! Even though Everyone jumped to their feet! (Even Marta & Bella) Such a highlight! Nastia & Shawn were the stars ...but CHELLSIE WAS ON THEIR LEVEL, & an international WORLD CHAMPION and a STAR. as well. .Chellsie never got the recognition she deserved. I am cheering for her for 2021. Her comeback & adult gymnastics journey has been nothing short of spectacular. She has truly served as a source of INSPIRATION FOR SO MANY.
0:11 Was that a piked double arabian?! What?? And that double back pike to put an exclamation point on the whole routine. This is for sure one of my favorite floor routines.
OMG THAT WAS BRILLIANT. I get chills every time i watch it! I always think that her Olympic story would have been way different if she had been healthy and strong during them. I'm gonna miss Chellsie soooo much :')
This gives me chills everytime I see this! This was such an AMAZING routine, she got the whole audience behind her, and everyone was cheering at her...I wish she would have been healthy during the Olympics, so we could have seen this routine there!
I hope she has those super recognizable drums at the very beginning for her comeback routine, which then abruptly stop and change to something completely different 😏 because she’s the old Chellsie, but so much better now!
literally just commented on how she should use a remix of this song for her new floor routine... the iconic drums would literally send chills down everyones back
Chellsie Memmel is an inspiration! I’m glad she came back at this year’s Tokyo Olympics! Cheers to many more successes! She liked my post before. I can’t wait to meet her and the team! What a goddess 🤩🥰😘😊👊🏾💍🌹
Chellsie’s floor is a perfect example of not being the classical balletic style of dancing in gymnastics, but still being engaging and captivating. There’s this obsession with tall, skinny gymnasts with classical music and classical dancing in gymnastics, and I’m not going to sit here and act like those routines aren’t beautiful, but I think this is what modern, powerful, dynamic, and artistic gymnastics can and should look like. I think the days when gymnastics looked more like ballet and was feminine and delicate are over, and it’s time for this kind of gymnastics to be front-and-center.
OH MY GOD! FINALLY, SOMEONE WHO AGREES WITH ME. Like, let the past be the past. Live the present. this is the present of gymnastics. And I honestly love the current state of gymnastics so much more. I mean okay "delicate" gymnastics was aesthetically pleasing to watch but it never really made me want to get up and cheer and scream.
Chellsie did the butt bounce first. (Not Simone or Katelyn). Chellsie performed it in the 2005 World Championships. Chellsie was 15 then. Simone and Katelyn were just 7 years old at the time. Incidentally, Katelyn won the 2013 AA TITLE at the American Cup beating out Simone Biles. Chellsie had just retired right before Simone turning Senior. Simone’s success came much later. It Would be just incredible to see Chellsie compete as Simone’s teammate in the Tokyo 2021Olympics. Her comeback training & routines are coming together. Chellsie would be 33 and Simone 25? Just an amazing feat! I believe it is possible. These two women are incredibly strong and both remarkable gymnasts in terms of longevity!
I just love how, for once, the commentators just shut up and are amazed. It's good to hear them, but sometimes the amazing purity of Chelsea's routine just needs to be heard. Beautiful.
Unless you were there, it's impossible to truly understand how electric the atmosphere was during this routine and just how...1,000,000% BEHIND Chellsie every single person there was. This video does not do it justice. I'll never forget it.
I am new to watching gymnastics and THIS is the most exciting video I have seen regardless of the Olympics to date. What an amazing and exciting gymnast! You have already accomplished the world Chellsie!
I,ll never get tired of watching this, so wish we could’ve seen this in Beijing- Only gymnast in US history to get a standing ovation from the selection committee
ok coming from someone who isnt into gymnastics, i only ever hear about shawn and nastia from the 2008 team... WHY HAVE I NEVER HEARD OF HER SHES SO GOOD?!!
The 2 golden girls took center stage as they always did but in reality there were a few, far better gymnasts than them with Chellsie being top of that list.
She broke her ankle right before the 2008 Olympics and was only able to compete uneven bars. Also Martha didn’t like her for whatever reason and tried to get her to fall under the spotlight of others.
just look at where Karoyli is sitting right at that last tumbling pass... the entire bench explodes when she stuck the landing! I love love love this routine
You can see the determination in her eyes before she begins her run for her last pass, and that was probably one of the most precise landings I have ever seen!! And i LOVE her routine!! I'm completely biased, but to me she has Shawn's power and Nastia's grace!
GOOSEBUMPS every single time I wacht this. She's an amazing gymast. I'm really really hoping she makes that 2012 Olympic team and returns home with, at least, one medal (hopefully gold) in one of her best events. :D
I wish that she hadn't had coaches (*cough* no idea who *cough*) who trained her too hard between this moment and the Olympics. I'm not saying 'go to the beach and drink slushies', but a gymnast of Chellsie's age and accomplishments would have know what she needed to perform optimally. We see too many repetitive stress injuries from gymnasts' time with the Karoylis. This isn't 1980s Romania, be a bit more progressive and let the gymnasts' personal coaches, who know them better, design the specifics of an exercise/training program for national camp.
Anyone who knows ANYTHING about the American system knows that her dad had nothing to do with this. Most of the gymnasts who have since retired after having competed at an Olympics during the Karolyi reign have said publicly that the system broke them. Literally, physically, broke them. They pushed them so hard, with zero breaks, that their bodies simply couldn't hold up. Her time with her dad in charge (and let's be real, he was only "in charge" to a point) was over the second she finished this routine.
Every time I watch this video I want to find Marta and scream in her face for her phony standing up after everyone else. She never wanted Chellsie on the team and she had no choice to take her then she broke her by making her continue to compete over and over and over again after she proved her self time and time again that year. Marta is the reason the US team had no shot at gold that year because she wanted her pet Nastia to have all the attention and ended up costing the US a shot at a gold medal but turning Alicia into a head case and over working Sam and Chellsie so badly she broke them by the time it mattered,
Marta had Annia Hatch fake injury for Nationals cuz she wasn't sure she would make trials then she took her to the Olympics for just vault. That cost the team gold and I was so glad when they lost cuz her cheating for Hatch because she wanted her on the team. Karma got the bitch
How did that cost the team gold? What about all the breaks that Carly (vault, bars), and Courtney (off beam due to developing injury, and then major break on floor) experienced during Team Finals? They buckled when it counted and cost at least 1.8 pts. Are you saying that Chellsie wasn't really injured?
Marta kinda made Bela look like the good guy in this, his reaction when Chellsie stuck her double pike was either much more genuine or he just knew how to act quickly
I so love this routine! It is perfection! I know no one else will agree with me on this, but I do find it artistic in its own way. I think there's a certain artistry in her incredible power, and I absolutely love that pass at 1:08
