Really excellent. One of your best programs featuring one of your most iconic subjects. Only one fault. You failed to mention his exquisitely elegant and stylish wife. What a pair. They could steal the style limelight from William and Kate.

This was fantastic! I’ve always appreciated Prince Michael’s style and appearance. What you said about the lifetime enjoyment one can have from a single wristwatch is spot on. It pains me to think how much breath I’ve wasted saying to myself (and my wife) “ I’ll wear this watch everyday for the rest of my days“. The thought of having that one thing you can get use from for decades my justification for half of my silly purchases🤷. I fool myself to think how much money I’ll save in the future since I won’t need this or that🤣🤣.

I really enjoyed this video Ash. I noticed Prince Michael many years ago. The large tie knot only works with the large collar shirt that he habitually wears. There are photos of him some forty years ago where he looks uncannily like Tzar Nicholas ii. Great content Old Bean. I hope you continue covering the archives of well dressed men.

Prince Michael of Kent definitely always looks extremely well put together. The shirt collars and tie knots are unique. Surely those ties are bespoke. The tie knots are massive.

He is definitely a very well dressed man, and genetically looks very similar to his Romanov relation - the last Tsar of Russia. Sadly the russian 'connection' goes much deeper than you mentioned - with his nickname amongst russian officials being 'Kentski'. Despite numerous scandals due to him providing paid access to some very dodgy russians over the years, including Putin - I am pleased that he finally renounced his links with Putin, and returned his 'Order of Friendship', after the russian invasion of Ukraine. Last week I was also very sorry to hear of the loss of his son in-law, which must have been devastating for his daughter.

Great idea Ash. I would like to see more like this. I like the large knot on him though I personally would not choose that style of knot. He is a very stylish gentleman. And it's good to see another person with a beard that is so stylish as I am a bearded man myself. I have a suggestion for a furniture video of the same type as this one. I would like to see something about Charlie Watts drummer for the rolling stones. He was a very stylish gentleman and you didn't see a lot about his style. Thanks for the review and have a great time at your event tonight. Tell Chris I said hello and I wish I could be there. Best regards Ron

I'm really enjoying your channel, especially your insights into the shaving experience. I wanted to ask, you mention that some razor blades are less sharp than others, is there an instance that you would want a blade that was less sharp? Do less sharp blades pair better with more aggressive razors for example? It seems like you would always want the sharpest blade you could get your hands on...? Anyway, thanks for all the great content!
@TheChapsGuide
@TheChapsGuide 6 месяцев назад
It is really a matter of what your skin can tolerate. People with more sensitive skin may prefer a less aggressive blade, whilst others favour a very sharp blade to make short work of more wiry bristles. It is always worth trying a wide variety of blades to see what suits you best. I favour the sharp(ish) end of the spectrum, while the less aggressive don't work well with my stubble.

My anglophilia is showing, but I personally think that the UK has one of the best-dressed populations. The royals, celebrities, and even some ordinary people dress pretty formal if not only for certain occasions. While I like UK country attire, the outfit seems overkill when it comes to hunting in it. Although hunting across the pond and the UK is different, hunting in a collared shirt and tie seems strange to me, at least in the field. There is a clip where Richard Hammond walking in maybe a bit exaggerated U.S hunting gear, while everyone else is wearing UK hunting gear, that's what you usually see in the US. It's not to say other countries are underdressed, but I find that the UK is mostly so well dressed and that it' a stereotype to the outside.

Superb instalment Ash. Couple of points on Mike Windsor. I've noticed in the hipster world that there are gents of our age and older who cultivate a style that seems to borrow from the "Prince"! The beard style, frame (not much a chap can do about that) and I've even seen the large T&A style collar and tie copied. Interesting. He does look magnificent , fair play to him... or his butler ;) I've had a bit of luck too. I spotted a two piece navy with very fine dark red pinstripe, two button, nice large notch lapel, notches lovely and high up and nice wide width for the size of the chest (thank heavens, not mean OTP skinny ones), two pairs of trousers, one with turnups by Norton & Townsend. It claims to be "bespoke" and has a gents name and details on labels on every piece. The good - perfect size (for me)chest, shoulders, buttoning and collar, no pulling on the front of back at all... it lays clean and flat on me! It does require sleeve shortening (it has machine made button holes uncut, BUT, the cuffs can be made working... so the button stitching can be removed for shortening ), I'm also going to take an inch and a half off the length, which I don't think will make the coat look boxy. It will then end perfectly just below my buttock .. which is correct, I think? Best of all, I only really took interest in the suit as the sale included a pair of Albert Thurston navy grosgrain braces.....which were not mentioned ! I was driven up to £25 lolz PS, Mike's tie, do you think they are a special order, I like a big knot myself.... most ties don't seem long enough or broad along the big blade for me? M
@TheChapsGuide
@TheChapsGuide 6 месяцев назад
The suit sounds like a magnificent find and worthy of the suggested, small adjustments for the outcomes that you will reap. Great show sir. I think our protagonist wears T & A ties and opts for the rather textured pieces, so they have added body and hence form bigger knots, but whatever route he takes, he has come to be the master of the giant knot over the years.

Glad to know a little about prince Michael. Speaking of his knowledge of Russian: I guess it's understandable since British and Russian royal families were very closely connected. In fact, russian emperor Nicolas II was a cousin of king George V. They even were almost twin-like in their appearance.
@Fanakapan222
@Fanakapan222 6 месяцев назад
Probably more to do with his 20 odd years in the Kate ? Back in the day the army sent some people on a fully fledged university course to learn the Russian language, something which the playwright Alan Bennett took advantage of when doing his National Service. In Bennetts case he cites the ability to wear plain clothes whilst on the course (a huge chunk of his two years) as being a big motivator. :)

Some minor corrections that amount to trivia: a grandchild of a British monarch is not automatically a prince or princess. A son or daughter is, and the children of those SONS are. For example, Princess Margaret's children are not prince or princess despite their grandfather having been King. Nor are Princess Anne's children notwithstanding their grandmother being the Queen. All those princes and princesses, including Prince Michael, do have the title HRH whether or not they are "working as royals". This may start to change, and I suppose already has since Prince Edward's children are entitled to these titles but don't use them. This is aside from Prince Andrew and Prince Harry not using the title because of their transgressions. When the "HRH" title was stripped from Prince Harry for not "working as a royal", he used Prince Michael as an example of a non-working royal who has the title to complain of inequitable treatment. Anyway, and for certain, the King and Prince Michael are the two most stylish members of the family, along with the late Prince Philip, and looking at how Prince William dresses, those days are over.

Prince Michael of Kent looks absolutely smashing in a double-breasted suit, which is a style I very rarely see being worn by anyone today. (In all honesty, I see fewer and fewer men wearing single-breasted suits for that matter.) Personally, I don't care for his huge tie knots or long-collared shirts; however, I do appreciate that these are 'signatures' of Prince Michael's personal sartorial style. Although I wear a tie just about every day, I am not a fan of half-Windsor or full-Windsor knots, as I have a large head and neck and I feel they don't do anything to flatter my proportions. Prince Michael looks impeccable in the various military uniforms he wears for ceremonial occasions. I have a friend who is a retired English banker, and he sports a beard and haircut that looks precisely the same as those sported here by Prince Michael of Kent.

I noticed one very interesting thing! Traditionally, residents of Misty Albion are asked (at least not so long ago) "have you met the queen?" This video is completely in the discourse of this tradition. But I would ask, "have you met Jeremy Clarkson?" ...if I had met the queen! By the way, how do you feel about the style of the holy auto trinity?

I have not, as yet, met His Holiness Jeremy Clarkson. The stylings of the 3 presenters of the Grand Tour are somewhat shabby. JC looks frighteningly unhealthy, with a cannonball gut of magnificent proportions - I suspect he is not long for this world, unless he addresses his lifestyle ASAP.

There's some reality to the fact that younger royals don't dress as well as older royals. When one compares King Charles with Prince William or Harry, the sartorial difference is night and day. Charles chooses to stand out in an elegant way while the princes dress in cookie-cutter, modern suiting looks. (A single-breasted, slim, notch-lapel, navy or charcoal suit is apparently the only look a man can wear nowadays.) I'll be disappointed to see royal sartorial elegance die out with the older generation. Who knows? Maybe the princes will step up their game as they age.
