Hurt is performed Nine Inch Nails, was written by Trent Reznor, originally released in 1994 on the Downward Spiral album. Johnny Cash did a cover in 2002 and won country single of the year for it. It’s still a perfect song though 😉
Whether played live with NIN or solo on piano, IMO it will always be Trent's song even though he was humble enough to say that after the excellent cover version it belongs to Johnny Cash.
do the Dsus2 every couple times before the chorus then it works, because it works better when you play it off time, like hanging on the open E string at the top after picking the rest of it, even including the F# up until you reach the last long strum before going back to Am
Yes, it's a Dsus2. It makes the chord sound more melancholy than the bright major chord. Also, why are people trolling that it's a NIN song? Just about anyone who is enthused about music and guitar would know that... It's a great song that had another spin put on it, and with a different perspective as the intentions of the original. In the NIN version was a song from someone at the "beginning of their life" going through struggles. Johnny's version was someone at the end of their life reflecting back on all the struggles they've seen and even the ones they couldn't overcome. Both versions are relevant and powerful. Johnny's version is extremely bittersweet and regretful. I personally enjoy Johnny's version more because I am older now and when a lifetime is ahead of you, you can always correct your mistakes. When you're at the end of your life, the worst possible outcome is regretting how your life played out and no longer having the time to change anything.
Nah, that's how I've always played it. Also, I like to switch in an Am9 (X02500) for the Am every other time through the progression. Kinda more reminiscent of the original NIN version with that little addition.
😬 I know I know!!!! I my head I was saying “Johnny cash’s VERSION OF HURT” but 🤷♂️. Btw, have you heard Rick Rubin talk about how he got Johnny to sing it? He sent it to him over and over again before he finally agreed to try
@@strumalongs OH way bk in the 90s I was a NIN fan. When I heard JCs version of Hurt and the video....I think Trent Reznor must have wrote it for 🤔 him.
Johnny Cash was a genius, this song of his is the best song he ever did, making all his past tunes sound like crap, like they were performed and written by an aggressive abusive drunk. 😒
