I think the rule of asking to switch seats on planes is that you have to offer an equal or better seat. I've asked several times if someone would mind switching, but I would never expect someone to give up their good seat!

Best advice I've ever heard on the coming out situation (or really anything your kids want to tell you) is to return the same energy they bring. If they mention it casually over dinner, then you can say "yeah that's cool, I kinda knew anyway". If they sit you down and make a big deal of it, then respond with similar gravitas and tell them you appreciate how hard it probably was and how much you support them and love them. Don't make a big deal of it if they don't, but don't be flippant and dismissive if they do.

With the step-daughter inheritance: I'd pay the child support til she was 18, then give a small lump when she graduates high school You're probably looking at $2000 a month MAX for 2 years MAX to the ex $48000 maximum for the child support and $5000 for her 18th birthday

The in-law story is so ridiculous! My MIL and brothers in law thought I didn’t work. I was a stay at home mum but I worked as a contractor and pulled in, still do, serious money. I also come from generational wealth. I didn’t share any of this with them as they didn’t need to know. For close to 20 years they assumed I was just a human sponge. My husband always stood up for me and told them to mind their own business. Well, when I became the sole heir they were ringing us as if we were best friends! We’ve been married 27+ years and they’ve never liked me even though I treated his family as I did mine: loyalty, respect, honour and duty. Within a month of becoming the sole heir, my MIL asked for 100,000US and suggested I pay for a family trip. I haven’t laughed that hard in years. Obviously we’re no contact with them now. I retired as a Lt. Colonel and now attend far more charity events than ever before. I’d trade it all for my family back in a heartbeat.

No number 1 isnt the asshole. The kids are 2 and 4 years old, they do not belong on the internet and social media, in my opinion. She agreed to it with no intentions of following through with it, and then she played victim and branded the him the asshole. That's a major red flag and i think that marriage will lead to the nasty D-word. Number 2 isn't the asshole. Im a gay man and i think thats a funny "dad joke" but i have a dry sense of humor. My controversial take: We _need_ to ban children from ALL social media! Both performing for it _and_ consuming it! (Starting in school.) Every, single child, at birth _should_ have full legal rights & permissions to their own likeness. Parents should be required to blur out their infants & children's face, at all times, no exceptions! Children cannot enter into a contract or even "opt out" if they ddon't want to partake in making videos some days. Parents are supposed to do things in the best interest of their children, not to exploit them for greed. And have no doubt, many of these children _are_ being exploited & over worked _without_ compensation. Money isn't everything, especally to a child. You can't give a child back their childhood, ffs! There is no way to "fix" this issue, other than to legally force everyone to stop immediately. Do something else! Oh, btw several other countries already do have this legal standard. And no, they *have not emploded!* So, why tf can't _all_ of North America do this one small thing for the sake of our children's mental health & basic wellbeing? We do not own our children! We are simply their live guide & care taker until, they can manage on their own. ❤❤

I don't think the inheritance story has an easy solution as others think. Here's why. 1. It said that they inherited the ESTATE that was worth 1 million dollars. That could be the home they are currently living in (this is unconfirmed info we don't have based on the post). So, essentially, they aren't inheriting anything more than the right to stay in that house. If they wanted to share that with anyone else, I believe the process is to sell the house, get the cash equivalent of the estate and then share that among the inheriters. Which is a lot of trouble for a now widowed and single mother to do. She has to do all that and then find a new house to live in. 2. The people commenting that the widow should at least give child support to the stepdaughter also make it sound easy. I assume the child support was coming from the man's salary (which he no longer has). So, logically, the main family is also now under a financial burden because they don't get the monthly support that the husband was bringing home. It's not that easy for OP to shell out that child support money every month. Overall, I get the notion that you should help if you have the means to do so, but in this case, I don't think the woman is drowning in money even though it may seem so. If you read between the lines, inheriting the estate means almost nothing fiscally.

Not the AH. She got in the right lane right before your exit and lingered there and probably sped up/slowed down when he tried to do one or the other so he could get over. I'd be irritated too. I feel like if someone did that to me I'd be like, "I only looked over to see what AH was intentionally blocking my ability to get over." Like when you're in traffic and someone is driving like 40 on the highway, or they cross multiple lanes, or even the psychos who get on the wrong exit and BACK UP to correct it.
