Personally, if I had a choice, I would do it in the US. Europe had many airlines file for bankruptcy in 2021, so there are a ton of crew without jobs. Canada is still recovering from the pandemic, but in 2022 there will be a pilot shortage. However in the US, they are offering HUGE signup bonuses for pilots and you basically have a pick of any airline. In Canada the pay incentive is non-existent

@AviatorInspirations Год назад
Yes do the program that you can afford and can give you flexibility after training. Unfortunately in the UK you have to do both sets of exams (UK and EASA), since you are no longer part of the EU. Alternatively you can look into cheaper schools like in Lithuania. So I suggest calling all the schools you are interested in, talking through all their options/time frame/financing options and then picking the school that makes most sense for you. Yes you probably don’t want to lock yourself at easyjet for 4years, unless you have the means to survive for that long time at a low salary.

Q: I'm 45 years. I was wondering if I should get my private pilot license? Just writing this now, I think I would. I think getting a private pilot license would be cool. The airport I would be training from is 10 mins from my home and it would only cost me $8,000 dollars. Just the experience and doing it would be exciting. I'm currently working as a truck driver for small trucking near-by, 10 min away from home as well. Already done a introductory flight and got hooked. I like to travel and fly. I don't know about if I would take it any further because of age. But, just the process along would be challenging and fun.

There are no easy entries into aviation in Canada. Your resume is based on hours, so if you are over 2000hrs it will be easy finding a job. Remember you also need to have a work visa or permanent residency to legally work in Canada.

When I started flight training I would always get air sick after every flight, but with time I got used to it and learned how to not get air sick. Making a career change at that age is definitely risky, but as we come out of Covid, the pilot shortage is going to come back with a vengeance, so I think this could be an opportunity to get a job with low hours. @AviatorInspirations
@AviatorInspirations 11 месяцев назад
Thanks for the question! It definitely is NOT too late to start, however you have an advantage with your career that you can setup a financial plan to pay for flight training. I would recommend working and training at the same time, but I’m not sure what options you have in the Philippines. If you come to Canada to train, that will be more risky and challenging as you will be quitting your career and will be relying on savings. Unfortunately Canada doesn’t give student loans to international students, but they do once you become a permanent resident. If you can get an engineering job in Canada, that would be best, and then transition to flying.

Combining this video with your other video about salaries, the answer is 'yes'. I think when people make the question 'Am I too old to become a pilot?', they want to know if they are too old to become a pilot, while keeping their income. I cannot imagine a whole lot of people in well stablished careers going back to 20,000 or 30,000 per year just to build up hours and without any guarantee that they are going back to the level they were when they decided to become a pilot..
@AviatorInspirations
@AviatorInspirations 4 года назад
The people who have asked me this question are either not happy with their career, don’t have a career, or it’s been their long dream to fly. Anytime you start a new career you start at the bottom, I would be curious if you know of any careers that start in the 6 figures. So it’s not just unique to aviation. From all your comments on my channel you seem to have some frustration with aviation. My channel was created to help future pilots considering this career get the necessary knowledge before making the leap. It’s not a perfect career, nor do I say in any of my videos that’s it’s the greatest thing since sliced bread. All careers have their pros and cons, and everyone out there has to make their decision if this is right for them.
@DanDanJanJanJP
@DanDanJanJanJP 4 года назад
@@AviatorInspirations Do not say your channel=aviation. I made comments on your points of view, and, actually, only one critique, which was about how inspiring it is a pilot referring to an airplane as a "metal tube" in a derogatory way. About careers that start at 6 figures, I don't know any. I know, however that entry level in pharma industry is 50,000 and you don't have to have your salary cut off every time you make a career move. It is a fake dichotomy to say that you either get 6 figures or 30,000. There is a whole reasonable range between these two points and I think that airline pilots deserve much more that 30,000-40,000 as an entry level salary, given the huge responsibility they have during each flight.
@AviatorInspirations
@AviatorInspirations 4 года назад
Lol my channel is about Canadian aviation, aviation in general is quite a broad topic. I would totally agree with you about pilot pay, that’s why I made the video 👍🏻
@DanDanJanJanJP
@DanDanJanJanJP 4 года назад
@@AviatorInspirations Since you seemed to take comments that antagonize your ideas as frustration towards aviation, I just reminded you that your channel does not equal aviation. All in all, at least we agreed that the pay is low. Unlike a colleague of yours that justified the low pay of another colleague, because, in a way, "he was living the dream".
@AviatorInspirations
@AviatorInspirations 4 года назад
I don’t take any of your comments as frustration, I love to share and debate ideas, it’s a public forum and I take none of it personally. You challenged my ideas and I challenged yours, that’s a normal process. There are many illusions people have about this profession, and although I do love what I do, by no means is it perfect, and I have frustrations just like people have in their professions. I would not trade this career for any other because there is something amazing about staring down at the earth, flying an airplane, and getting paid for it. But there is also a danger of romanticizing this career because what you imagine in your head is far from the truth. And that was my whole goal of starting this channel, to show the real truth of being a pilot, and let everyone make up their minds about it. I disagree with the pay, and several other things, but I also can’t change it single handedly if other pilots are willing to do the job “for free” just to get a chance to fly. I have never supported this approach, as well as paying for your own type ratings, because nobody should have to pay to get a job, that is the responsibility of the company that hires you.

The low pay is primarily in Canada, in the USA pilots are being offered HUGE sign on bonuses ($40k+) as their pilot shortage is a lot worse than ours. So if you have the means to work in the US, that’s where the money is at. Only for CPL, not PPL, that you have to pay out of pocket

A doubt. The $25 salary for instructors is the only pay they get ? Or there also a monthly pay apart from the hourly pay ?
@AviatorInspirations
@AviatorInspirations 5 лет назад
No base salary for instructors, at least from my experience, they are only paid for each hour they teach. When I was teaching I had 6 students a day (2hrs each) and that’s 12hrs a day, but you only got paid for the time in the air (1.2hrs) plus a small ground briefing. So you don’t get paid for the full 12hrs you are there, but for the 6.6hrs you flew.

@@AviatorInspirations it is better to do instructor rating in a flight school which has good number of student ?
@AviatorInspirations
@AviatorInspirations 5 лет назад
Your rating is taught by a class 1 instructor usually, so unless there are many students doing their instructor rating, then yes it’s better to do it at a quieter school. To teach, it’s best to teach at a school with few instructors but many students. That’s why small towns are usually best instead of big cities. Also, sometimes a school will give you a job if you finish your rating with them, so that’s also an option.

@@AviatorInspirations when there are lot of students doing instructor rating, it takes more time to complete the rating and have less focus on individuals ?

Hello bro ,I like your Video . I am a pilot in India and I have about total 1000 hrs flying time . I have 600 hrs on King Air C90 Turboprop hrs, can I apply for job in Canada ,will I get job .?
@AviatorInspirations
@AviatorInspirations Год назад
You will first need to convert your license to a Canadian one, I just released a video on that, so take a look for the process. Next you will need to apply for permanent residency in Canada and get a work permit, otherwise you will not be able to work in Canada legally.

Like I mentioned in the video, yes it’s never too late! You might never be captain on a 737, unless you fly right up until 65, but there are lots of avenues based on your lifestyle preferences.

God I wonder how COVID-19 has changed the context of this video. I'm not sure starting a career in your mid-30's would make sense now. There must be a lot of out of work people right now.
@andrewb9708
@andrewb9708 Год назад
It doesn't make sense and I've consulted several airline captains. If you start in your mid 30's to 40, you will never advance to captain of a major airline. I missed the boat, but being realistic with yourself is always a wise move.
@AviatorInspirations
@AviatorInspirations Год назад
Depends on what country! In Canada yes you can still make captain before 50: Flair, Air Canada, Sunwing etc. In the US maybe not if you are in your 40’s. But pilots can fly until 65, so it all depends on how early you make captain, not IF you make captain. World is in a huge pilot shortage right now!
@andrewb9708
@andrewb9708 Год назад
@@AviatorInspirations You're correct, I'm from the US. I guess I could become a captain in certain countries, in fact, I don't think Aerosucre requires a pilot's license to fly their aircraft...😆
@AviatorInspirations
@AviatorInspirations Год назад
But you also don’t need to be captain at a legacy to make a good living. There are king air pilots making $150k/yr and home every night. The US is definitely the best place in the world to be a pilot right now. I’d be there in a heartbeat if I could get a visa 😅
