Thankyou! Great video ! Lots of memories there! I used to own a 1980 Suzuki GSX 1100 Blue on Silver with wire wheels in mint condition . I'm 64 now and have never seen another one but that would do it for me!
Used to live 2 miles from Mid Ohio and hit VMD since the 90s. Moved away and only get back every few years cause now I'm vintage. Thanks for bringing back memories of those good times with old friends.
Two of my favorite old school superbikes were my 1982 Yamaha Xj1100 Maxim and my 1983 Honda V-65 Magna (vf1100). Both were legendary for their speed and power.
Missed all the awesomeness going on in the campground. Gotta stop by the ClevelandMoto/Motorcycles & Misfits/Noco Moto podcasts tent city near Kentucky corner, and stop by Kentucky corner to see the Captain! Parties, burnout competitions, barrel racing, holeshot competitions - come find it all in the Vintage Days campgrounds! Already counting down the days to next year’s AMA VMD
Never mentioned the fj1100 behind the kz900. Awesome bike that was first of its kind in the day. Was a 1/4 mile monster, and one of the best bikes I've owned.
That old Can-am brought back some memories. Back in my brief but eventful youth there was a guy who raced motocross with us. I’d see him at different tracks all over. He was a big Can-am freak. He had a 1976 250 that looked very much like that one. White like a refrigerator, and handled like one too…😂. Then he got the 1977 infamous Black Widow…still handled like a refrigerator…🕷️
CRIKEY-for us poor pheasants in Australia you guys have an awesome motorcycle swap meet!!! NO disrespect, to our swap meets, but honestly our motor cycle swap meets don't and wouldn't come within a flea's fart to what you guys have over there in the US (sigh) And the assortment and brand of bikes, bloody amazing! OMG all I can do is drool over my keyboard. My wish is that one day I could walk around such a swap meet, that would then tell me heaven is for real and it does exist!!!
Here in the uk i had the z nine a4 with a chrome kerka, it was my first big bike back in 79. I went from an old 250 cb to the beast, those were the days.
Been there 15-20 times. Always a gas! too bad you didn't show the stunt riding, the trials competition in the woods, the motocross competition, and the seminars. Lots more. I started coming in the 90's. Saw two members of the Indian Wrecking crew, Jay Springsteen, Gary Nixon, and MANY great riders. You missed alot!!
The first thing that stood out to me was the PK bike, the PK Ripper was one of my favorite bmx's ever! I also had a GS1000 when I was 16yrs old......I think it was a 1980..it was fun! And I luv the music at the end "pink houses" Fantastic video man!
Japan was on a 2 Stroke War path when they designed and produced the Triple line up . Sales and performance made these bikes so desirable today . I just sold a collection sitting 35 plus years in storage 3 1972 H1B's , 1 1973 H1E . I kept the 1981 GPZ 1100 Drag bike and a ZZR 1200 My friends collection was huge many kool Kawasaki's got sold and I hope everybody enjoys the history they bought ... let the good time's roll ....... 😎 Great video Jacket
I have heard guys talk about this yearly event many times on the forums. So cool that you attended and covered it. That modified CBX was killer. I wish the guys that were selling the modified KZ's with no motors had some info to buy. I'd be interested in purchasing one. Great video👍👊
Cool vid Jack. Any chance you saw a running TM 400 Suzuki? This was like my history of bikes I owned over my 50 years of biking. Owned about 16 of bikes you showed. The mini bikes reminded me of my first throttle twist. Straight through my buddy's fence. LOL
the KZ's ! . got a 77 KZ LTD . .powdered frame . 1135/5 angle valve job/36 valves/36 Makuni's/ running stock duels . the big carbs give it a deep throat . 14 tooth sprocket . it's a blast to ride ... ( am 68 ) ...
I had a 1982 KZ750 LTD w/under 5,000 miles that I finally sold in 2011. It was the most comfortable early Japanese Cruiser style bike. With that KZ750 engine, it was quick. Even by todays standard.
Hi Jack, I was there last year my first time I was absolutely blown. I had a weekend pass but unfortunately my son became ill I had to come home . I am local I can only be there for the first day you could not come back. Didn't make it this year but hopefully next year I can be there again and stay the whole weekend.
Yeah I had a Z1 900 I was living on a gravel road. Saturdays was for cleaning Sunday for riding and that bike really shined up nice but only for Saturday night and Sunday morning. I would take a picture of the clean machine for show and tell.
I wish I had my 76 cb550ss back. Sold it for $400 in 1992 because I got my dad's 1981 cb900c. I have seen the cb550ss going for $8000. The cb900c has been in the shop once in 2008 for a valve check. They were all fine.
On 11:56 I am quite sure its the type of DKW I had as a young boy and converted it to a “dirt bike”. Looking back I wish I didn’t but hey I would have missed out on so much fun!
That was a great video! Kind of disappointed didn’t see any British Bikes. I wonder if they had them there or if it was just all Japanese bikes and dirt bikes they just didn’t film.
Been there many times and camped, sometimes for 2 weekends in a row for one price! Way better than Daytona , in that ONLY motorcyclists attend. Harleys don't come and make and parade around to make noise.
Great video!, but as mentioned there is a ton of other events going on. They used to have pit bike races, but it's been awhile so maybe the safety police got involved. It was priceless. The prices of the bikes are very high for bikes that are so-so. With patience and time you can get them on Bring a Trailer and CL sorted out for decent prices.
I had a 72 H2 750 that was tough keeping the front wheel down... but I was able to take 1st place in bracket racing with it... It came down to me and another Kawasaki dial-in at 11 flat... my dial-in was 12:60 so I got a head start... I ran 12:63 and the other guy jumped bracket running a 10:90!
There are additional events AMA sponsored on site including “Lap for History” , ten bucks AMA contribution for three laps on the track….awesome on my 89 Yamaha Zuma. BTW The KV triple you featured made it’s way from Minnesota and I hope he makes it back next year, I know I will.
I had the same green KZ900 around 76-77. Unfortunately, a DA in a Crown Victoria making a left turn, pulled out in front of me with just enough time to lock up the brakes. Front disc locked, back in swung around and my left leg got sandwiched between bike and car. It had just started to rain and fortunately the bike was tall enough that it snapped my femur and launched me over the trunk. I didn't have a scratch except for a broken femur. The bike was totaled and was in a heap at the shop last time I saw it. My full coverage helmet was obliterated. I would have died or had a severe closed head injury if I had not been wearing it. I didn't ride for a long time after that. I'm now on an Indian Springfield, great bike. That KZ was an awesome bike!
When I was in high school I had an RD350 that had clip-ons, rear-sets and solo cafe seat. I used to blow away CB 750-4's stop light to stop light and then the V45 Interceptor came out and was the first 4 stroke 750 to beat my bike. Then some time later the original Suzuki Katana 1100 with the weird body work came out and not knowing what it was I tried to race it and before I even made it across the intersection the guy was halfway down the block. It was time for me to move up to a bigger bike, lol.
That KZ900 looks "almost" identical to my 1977 KZ1000, same color and all. I bought it used with 5k miles on it back in 1984, should of NEVER EVER sold it, out of all bikes I had, this is the only one that always stands out and brings my memories to.
I had a new 1979 Suzuki 1000 that was a copy of the Kawasaki 1000. That thing was a pet rock and a real muscle bike. The piston rings went bad at 75,000 miles.
Great video. Like em all, little too much Kawasaki, I’m a Honda fan. Yep, you are right all the ct70s on planet earth were there. Excellent narration, you know prices too high, but not disrespect from you. (Not too high if some money bag will pay) I subscribed but hell you got a ton.
Hello Cycle-Drag, Thank you for the Walk About at Mid Ohio AMA Vintage Days. I have always wanted attend this event. Looks great for the Male rider. I do not see this event as a family outing. I now know where to find this and that parts plus basket jobs. I like the nearly complete bikes. Now for for the cost to own, that is another question? I can now check this event off my Bucket List. My opinion my opinion, not a LINE in the SAND, so either Like or Dislike, nothing more or less. Thank you
