Every Clan (Family) has their own patterns and colors. It's like the german Lederhosen, but whereas with the lederhosen you can see where the wearer comes from, with the Scottish cilt you can also see the family affiliation. Traditional Scottish cilts are known for their unique tartan patterns, which feature a variety of colors and patterns. Some of the most famous and meaningful tartans are: St David's Welsh National Tartan: a russet and green kilt named after St. David of Menevia, which serves as a symbol of Welsh patriotism and national consciousness. Clan tartans: many Scottish clans have their own unique tartans that symbolize their ancestry and affiliation to the clan. These tartans are often designed according to family crests or regional traditions. Colors and patterns The colors and patterns on Scottish cilts are often symbolic and can convey information about the wearer or the clan. Some of the most important elements are: Horizontal and vertical stripes: these stripes are the basis of the tartan pattern and can be of different colors. Plant and moss dyeing: originally clan members used plants, mosses and berries from the region to dye the wool for their costume. Reproduction and weather-tanned tartans: these patterns mimic the colors of old, weather-tanned tartans found in homes or on battlefields. The official Scottish Register of Tartans lists over 7,000 registered tartan patterns. Even the Obamas and Hello Kitty have their own tartan! This register documents the diversity and variety of Scottish tartans and allows people to express their clan affiliation or personal preferences by choosing a particular tartan. greetings from germany
5:46 as an italian, the thing that almost killed me when i had to drive in California, is that nobody told me over there the traffic lights are on the oppisite side of the crossing. So confusing.
22:43 I think its "Brit" or "British" 28:00 - Edinburgh - The "Old Firm" (the Glasgow Football Derby, Rangers vs Celtic) - The Nature - Looking for Nessie
the colective term for people from the Uk is british even In NI ,however its much more controversial in Northern Ireland. The important thing to remember though the english out number the rest by 10 to 1 ,English and British are in no way synominous .English refers to england whereas british refers to the island of britain primarily including wales and scotland therefore is not controversial to call scots british because they live in britain.
@@Average_Middle_Aged_American In ireland that is the republic every one is irish and identify as irish ,Northern Ireland very complicated not even going to try and explain it.best to call them northern Irish if you go there not fool proof but northern irish is the least worst option.
The that thing about not checking out the festival is a bit of a bug bear in relation to ireland to ireland aswell.Even from a planning perspective you need to no where events are in terms of traffic and accomodation .I have watched a huge amount of tourist vlogs and other than st patricks day festivals don't feature
Scottish and British or more like English pounds are the same money, they come from different banks though that reside over the money, Bank of England, bank of Scotland. Even though they are essentially the same money, I assume the difference is due to how Scotland came to be in the UK, some laws were handed to the UK parliament while others the Scotland do have control over themselves, for example universes costs. They are free in Scotland, if you are Scottish. In England, for everyone, not so much :( So I am assuming (but haven’t looked into) the different money is due to the Scottish government, wanting its money to look different and to be different to England but still having the same value means that there won’t be any trouble with it in the UK.
@@Average_Middle_Aged_American i suppose the scottish ones are tourist souvenirs? I’ve been to scotland (in the ‘90s), and it’s the first time i hear about scottish pound.
@@Average_Middle_Aged_American Its still sterling just printed in different banks.I have been asked when changing eiither irish punts or euros when we adopted euro whether i wanted english or northern irish sterling in banks. Its the same currency just printed in different banks, its just complete stupidity that they are not excepted accross the UK same currency. Its not stupid for money to be printed locally whether it be the ulster bank ,bank of scotland or bank of england what is stupid is that its not accepted.
No vast majority of europe drives on the right side its not even close, only Uk ,Ireland ,Malta and cyprus drive on the left basically places that have historical british influence.I think scandinavian countries drove on the left until the 70s but no nowhere on mainland europe drives on the left as Malta ,cyprus ireland and britain are all islands.
