She became champ July 9, 2016. I watched that fight first year in the Army, and she's been champion the whole time & I'm also leaving this year. Time flies

Given what she's gone through and where she ended up, Amanda Nunes has had one of the greatest careers in the history of the entire sport. All the best to her, you cannot do that forever and I don't think anyone would want to. I got Pennington over Pena for the vacant title.

im happy for amanda, it was such a happy ending for her career, ending while still on top. but at the same time,i am sad that aldana wasnt able to give her a challenging fight before the curtain finally closed for amanda.

It’s satisfying to see Amanda’s entire career unfold. I’ve been a fan of hers since her 1st fight in UFC vs Gaff, sad when I saw her loss to Cat, so happy to see her rebound, proud when she joined ATT, knew she’d beat Tate when she got her 1st shot at the belt, then happy for her historic beating of Rousey especially the way the UFC ignored that Amanda was champ and focused totally on Rousey comeback, then her head kick ko of Holm, her destruction of the Cyborg hype, and her defending belts in both divisions. Amanda is and always has been a class act. Never shy away from a challenge. Rose to meet every occasion and conquer every obstacle. No excuses when she lost to Julianna, just knew she hit a bump and that she’d rebound. And boy did she!!! Now closing out her career in a dominant fashion. No doubt if she wanted to she could rack up 4-5 more title defenses but she is not interested in padding the stats. She came here as a 20 yr old with a vision and she checked every box. Hats off to an amazing athlete and a great role model for young athletes everywhere. You can do what you dream if you really apply yourself. I feel lucky to have witnessed her spectacular career. She is the greatest female MMA fighter of all time. She’s top 4 MMA fighter ever male or female. And she’s leaving on her feet with both belts, an extremely rare accomplishment in this sport. Congratulations to Amanda “the lioness” Nunes!!! I will miss you.

Good for her i think this was the right move. Theres really nothing left for her to accomplish, both divisions are too shallow to produce much competition.

I thought she was gonna plan to have the trilogy fight with Julianna Peña next and also defending her featherweight belt as well. But her choice of retiring is extremely well deserved and I’m gonna miss seeing her compete and dominate as champion

I had a feeling Nunes was going to retire if she won. The worst thing now is Pena is going to be running her mouth saying Nunes was scared of her. We all know Pena was lucky to get the win the first match. Pena found out Nunes was going to retire and used the injury as an excuse to avoid the third fight.

I never thought the Juliana rematch made sense. Juliana decisively lost 6 of the 6 1/2 rounds they shared together. I'm happy to see her get another name under her belt before leaving. I always wanted to see a 3rd fight between her and the true Goat Valentina because that trilogy was warranted based on how competitive things were. Double champ forever, must feel nice!
