Mr Shearer as he likes to be called is'nt respected by everyone. He brought that upon himself over the years with his arrogance and poor attitude towards good working class people
@@Bazooka183 yes my dad is a HGV driver for the council and the lads that do newcastle and darras hall area told me dad that one of them in joy of seeing Shearer shouted him by his last name as am sure most instinctively would and the lads told me dad the he told them " It's mr Shearer to you" which a don't really think there's a need for like... maybe these people should take a step back and be very grateful for admiration they get instead of throwing it bsck in peoples faces... maybe the aren't clever enough to articulate their thinking some of them who knows?
Nice video if the have put a Sunderland top down there it won't be the first time shearer's walked all over them as long as it's under his feet it's ok
That's classic, I bet their cringing inside with every brick they have to lay knowing the gulf between both clubs......Good to see Shearer's staue being put in place where it should have alway's been in the first place. Also, nice to think Trippier and Wilson could play some part on Sunday and give us much needed strength, especially up front. Happy Friday and HWTL.
The same sort of rivalry banter happened in Cardiff with the Millennium Stadium. The construction workers who were putting the final bits in place were English lads from Bristol. They painted a St.George's cross on a white bed sheet and fixed it to the top. So the first flag to fly over the stadium was the England flag. Their gaffa, who was a Welshman, told them they have 5 minutes to take it down or he'd sack them..... Banter... don't you just love it?
it’s been a long time since i was at newcastle did enjoy Shearers Bar and it was a real shame that they changed the name. With your content I am considering doing a tour of St.James’ at the end of the season at some point. bit of a funny story but my gran lost her gloves there i wonder if they’ve still got them. great news about the statue every stadium deserve its greats to be immortalised and Alan next to Sir Bobby is a fitting tribute.
no way shes got mackems doing that haha. Class. really love your channel mate, only just came across it yesterday for your 7 mile walk video.Keep up the good work
Hi malcolm from bristol your boy did it he scored our seventh goal today to clinch promotion we cant thank newcastle enough for the loan of him keep up the good vids
A little story about the centre circle flag. Some 12 years ago they used to be made my Flag maker Speedings in Sunderland where I was doing NVQ,s. They were well aware I was a Mag and I walked in one day and one of the girls was kneeling on the flag to which I remarked...lovely to see a Mackem pay homage to the Mags....needless to say the air was blue 🤣🤣🤣
Even if they add a shirt inside there it will backfire as wor Alan Shearer will technically be standing on top of it, goal celebration in hand, specifically the goal celebration of his last goal against Sunderland. haha.
Not a problem, employing the needy, very altruistic, even if they leave a strip in the base the greatest Toon number 9 will be stood on it, being outside the Cathedral on the Hill they will now understand how far their club has fallen.. mind the gap with all that is happening at the Toon, as they worry about there play off tonight against Sheffield Wednesday 👍....new offer to buy the Mackems 42m that's a Bruno with a Matt Ritchie thrown in
@@westendwatch Newcastle's 4 English Championship, 6 FA Cups and 1 Inter City Fairs Cup, will disregard the 2006 Intertoto Cup to cancel out Sunderland Papa John's Trophy win.., tonight's game with Sheffield Wednesday in the return leg with Sunderland holding a slender 1 nil lead with the winners to face Wycombe at Wembley is probably there biggest game for a while given there last 3 seasons.. ...
@@davidhoward5392 Just the four championshps is it ? My sympathies , still a good haul tho , one more than Huddersfield and Blackburn ! If the Saudis dig deep maybe they'll get you up with the massive clubs ?
Hi Eddy, just subscribed, I'm Tom Maley the sculptor of the Shearer statue, I was working with the lads from Sunderland, young Matty is indeed a Sunderland fan, but Stevey who built the plinth and did almost everything is a Toon lad and B&W as it gets, I was there when the concrete went in and can reassure you that no Sunderland shirt or otherwise was dropped in, rest easy my friend! The overall cost of the Barrack Road demolition/construction and installation and the Bronze statue itself came to £250K??? (No idea where the £250K figure came from, but it keeps getting repeated in the press so folk assume it to be correct - It aint! About half that figure at the most ie £120K) Cracking video Eddy, keep it up!
Great message Tom and thanks for reaching out 🤜🏻 I couldn’t resist the video with a Sunderland van and Sunderland fan working on the job. It was my intention for it all a be a bit of banter and tongue in cheek. Would you be able to drop me an email Tom at enquiries@tynesidelife.com Cheers Tom 👍🏻
My dad is a retired brick layer and past season ticket holder. He'd of built it for them, still doing stuff for family and himself now at 76yr old 😃👍 Yes, I'm auld too, 51 😒
Great video as always. One thing i've never understood is, the land is owned by Newcastle City Council so how could Ashley not allow Shearers' statue on the land?
As far as I understand it, the land is owned by the City Council but all the stadium and infrastructure is owned by the club hence why Ashley could be spiteful about the statue.
Might be a simple move by our owners to give Shearers a lot more respect than for it to be on the site where toilets once where but it's a move that will get the backing from everyone.
Wasn't that long a go Southern biased media claimed that our supporters expected to much from our club yet now we are over the moon when our new owners cleaned the stadium, happy because we are safe under a proper manager in Eddie Howe in the PL, and over the moon because Shearer has finally got what he deserves his statue on stadium premises and the nine bar back to Shearers bar. This is only the start and I can't wait to see where our club goes from here. HWTL! ⚫⚪⚫⚪
The bar was names Shearers so he could be paid image rights. The club was paying Shearer to use that name even when he retired. When the contract was up, Ashley changed the name to honour all our no.9s supermac etc. But also save the club money. It was the right thing to do. I tend to think the nine looked a bit classier, that branding looks tacky. For the statue, i dont really care that it wasn't on stadium land, Milburn's was on Northumberland street for years. The issue with the statue is it looks like Roy Walker rather than Shearer and made in China.
How do you know this about the bar name mate? I’m always on the hunt for facts but this goes against anything that is recorded anywhere. Do you have a reference, or can corroborate this in anyway? Cheers bud
If the Mackems do put a shirt in the foundations; it will only keep up what's always been; they will forever be beneath Shearer. So, nothing new then!!
Crazy coz when I seen it getting done the other day I was like ' imagine if it was mackems who got the job ' silly mistake my mackem pals done my flooring in my house and always puts a Sunderland piece of memorabilia under the laminate 😄 gotta laugh
Hope he doesn’t purposely mess up the statue haha! But no I don’t think he will, he’s going to be getting paid to make the statue so he wouldn’t want to mess it up
I'm not bothered about Shearer's statue, or Sir Bobby Robson's for that matter. The only people who should have been immortalised in concrete at St James'Park are Kevin Keegan, Joe Harvey and Jackie Milburn. I regard Wor Jackie as the 'true' greatest goalscorer in our history because he did'nt have the luxury of taking penalties in their sackloads, and there was only the League and the FA Cup competitions back in the day. He helped bring the Cup back to Tyneside three times, whilst also scoring three times in the 50's finals. Joe Harvey lifted two of them FA Cups and brought our last trophy home as manager. King Kev literally saved our club from going out of existence, and within 4 years had us challenging for the Premier League title.
@@Intravenusdimilo That has to be the most silly remark ever. I am 78 and was there during the Supermac era and I loved him but Alan Shearer was something else Still the Premier League top scorer, says it all really.
Not sure why Shearer has a statue. He never won anything. Surely to be worthy of a statue you have to have won titles. As a scouser I dont mind the Toon . This money you've came into will eventually win you some titles but its hollow. Look at City ,nobody gives a shit when the win titles. Its meaningless and everything thats shite about modern football
The club didn’t invest in the statue, it was the family of a previous owner, so it’s not something that the club had a say in but I take your general point. It’s the same with the club owners, the fans don’t get a say on it but it’s unlikely we’ll ever emulate Man City.
