Update on my amaryllis seedlings.
I will make an amaryllis playlist. I have a video on how to hand pollinate the amaryllis flower to get the seed pods to develop. Once the seed pots mature, they split open and black papery seeds - so many of them! - can be collected and new plants and flower combinations can be grown.
It will take at least 5 years to get a flowering plant.
The bulbs that are stored for and prepared for dormancy are given at least 2 months dormancy period. I usually do 3 months.

Hi. Thanks for sharing this. I'm going to be planting my first Amaryllis seeds this week. I realize it requires time and patience; however, maybe not as much time as expected. I read a comment on another video where the grower got blooms in the 3RD YEAR!‼️ So that's truly encouraging. I can hardly wait to get 2 different color Amaryllis plants so I can cross pollinate next time. Good luck and hope your blooms arrive sooner than you expect. 😊

I guess mine are year 2-3 and they are about the size of half a tulip bulb, still quite substantially smaller than a flowering amaryllis bulb but I am patient :) This past winter is the 1st time they have actually gone dormant.

That's really neat that you started some from seed, I'm very curious to see how these turn out 😀👍

I am interested in the colours I get because I crossed different colours of amaryllis that I had in bloom last winter.

That one bulb has red blotch which if fungal, and the rotting bulb was eaten into by a Narcissus Fly, where the larva burrows into the bottom of the bulb, and lives inside, munching away the middle tissue. We can see the entrance hole. All 4 of mine planted outside last summer were affected, one still having the larva in the center, and the other three had different amounts of damage too..... I even just bought 5 new bulbs from Lowes this week, and after pulling off the papery skins, two of them also had the holes, so had to clean out the damage. I'll have to go look to see if you have a follow up on the seedlings...

Hi thank you for letting me know all this. I still have all these same bulbs I believe and also I have these seedings still! They are not a flowering size yet. I have an update video on them. I will check over all these issues you have mentioned.

You can split them up in their own cup now they are strong seedlings very nice work When do you plant the bulb for winter time flowering? You can get them here at Christmas time already started or plant your own bulb for a bit cheaper I love flowers inside best air freshener:) I like hyasenth sp? Thoes purple ones but they come in pink and white and blue too I love that smell :) early spring smells of summer early is nice!

I let the bulbs rest for about 2-3 months and plant them up. I might get more bulbs, our grocery store has them at a decent price.

Hi! Thanks for your video. What do you do with the seedlings during dormancy? Do you let them dry out in the little pot for a couple of months, then start watering, or do you keep them green during the winter because they are so small?
@itsinyournature
@itsinyournature 3 года назад
I keep them going :) That way they grow big enough to flower faster.

Dust the bulbs with cinnamon powder to keep them dry & free from fungus attack.

I have never seen one where I live. I only see chickadees in the ravine by my house but never around the house. I was so happy to see this little bird. :) we have lots of robins and cardinals and that's pretty much it.

@itsinyournature
@itsinyournature 3 года назад
To plant the seeds, I didn't really do anything special, just spread them onto a tray of soil and then cover lightly with a small layer of soil and keep moist.

@@itsinyournature That's what I do too. Too lazy & impatient to float them in water. So, I just use coco-peat & sand mix & sow the seeds directly into the potting mix.
