Now I know they're not movies, they're not even 4k's... BUT, from a purely Atmos experience I absolutely cannot recommend anything more than than the Hans Zimmer Live in Prague and the John Williams Live in Vienna blu-rays. They are both incredible and I GUARANTEE you will be blown away. The Hans Zimmer one will work your subs and bass shakers 😅
@@budiaguswidjajaBelieve it or not, there are some folks not interested in physical media and the collection of multiple release versions of the same title. I’m old enough to have enjoyed that FOMO carousel ride with special pressings of vinyl and the bleeding edge phono cartridges during the late ‘70s to mid ‘80s, and could have bought a small car on the amount invested. I’m more than happy with the quality that top tier subscriptions to Netflix, Prime and Disney deliver at a couple of button clicks. Which brings me to Godzilla Minus One; based on a recommendation from some YT comments, I watched the Japanese language subtitled version which apparently has a superior Atmos mix. All I can say is that it was absolutely wonderful, and for my money blows the last several MCU and DCUfilms out of the water - all for a total budget less than some of those probably spent on leads’ salaries and food craft services.
Ford vs Ferrari (which is called "Le Mans '66" here in Europe btw) is a great movie indeed. It's in the top of my movie list too. I totally agree with your assessment for the actor choices for the leading rolls. Damon an Bale were born for this stuff. ;)
Out of these, I have everything but Rocketman, and I have to agree. They are all audio and visual extravaganzas. Also, be on the look out for Civil War in July. I just finished watching the streaming version, and even though it has the typically compressed sound and a severe lack of dynamic range, I am calling it now: it's going to be the Atmos track to beat this year. It has one of the most immersive Atmos mixes I have ever heard, and one of the most realistic uses of tops and heights yet. If the streaming version sounded this good, I can only imagine how the UHD will sound. For comparison think: All Quiet on the Western Front, Gravity (Luxe), The Batman, Ambulance, Saving Private Ryan, Blackhawk Down, Blade Runner 2049, A Quiet Place and Unbroken (bombing run). It's one of those mixes that can get really busy, yet never sounds congested. You really don't get many mixes quite this good. Ever seen Den of Thieves? Even though it's only 5.1, it has one of the most realistic sounding shoot outs in physical media near the end. Imagine that, but with Atmos, and spread across the entire film.
Maverick is top tier for sure. I would say it’s probably just a few spots away from making my Top 5. The sound, visuals and action are the best of the best but probably the story is the only part that isn’t quite up to the level of the ones on this list. Thanks for watching!
Top Gun Maverick was amazing. Hard to believe they could top the original. At $1.49 Billion, it was a smash hit because the story and visuals were top notch. Top Gun is the gold standard for home theater demos!
Have you got/watched any of the classics that Sony have done in 4K/Atmos? I'm thinking of the likes of Lawrence of Arabia or Guns of Navarone. Would be great to hear your experience of them in your home cinema.
I finally got hold of a copy of Lawrence this week and popped it on for a couple of minutes. Even on my small screen it looks so clean and crisp. Less grain than the other two films interestingly.
Great list! I too have all those except for Rocket Man. Never really interested me. Maybe one day I’ll check it out I totally agree with you that I would love to see The Rock finally on 4K. I am a sucker for the ‘90’s Bay/Bruckheimer/Simpson movies! Though I’m pretty sure the rights are still owned by Disney so this would have probably suffered another ‘Atmouse’ treatment! Same thing for Armageddon. But now that Sony is taking over the physical releases for Disney maybe we will get the good stuff finally! Sony is one of the best in terms of reference quality releases even if some of their movies leave something to be desired.
You are an excellent Narrator/storyteller/ whatever you wanna call it. You should look into some more editing and production for these. Seriously. enjoyed the vid.
Thank you for the reminder! It looks like it’s out of print but I snagged a used copy on eBay. Hopefully they ship it out tomorrow. Thanks for watching and I look forward to checking out The Hulk!
Have you ever been in an institution? Cells. Do they keep you in a cell? Cells. When you're not performing your duties do they keep you in a little box? Cells. Interlinked. What's it like to hold the hand of someone you love? Interlinked. Do they teach you how to feel finger to finger? Interlinked. Do you long for having your heart interlinked? Interlinked. Do you dream about being interlinked? Interlinked. What's it like to hold your child in your arms? Interlinked. Do you feel that there's a part of you that's missing? Interlinked. Within cells interlinked. Why don't you say that three times? Within cells interlinked. Within cells interlinked. Within cells interlinked.
@chadkirk925 it's an excerpt from poem from a novel called Pale Fire. It describes a fictional character's near death experience. Kinda like seeing your life flash before your eyes. the first part of what Joe says: And blood-black nothingness began to spin A system of cells interlinked within Cells interlinked within cells interlinked Within one stem. And dreadfully distinct Against the dark, a tall white fountain played
Not a big fan of Elton John, no thanks! Here are my Top 5 - MadMax Furry Road - Queen - The Fifth Element - Brotherhood of the Wolves - Blade Runner 2049
I love your enthusiasm for films and home theater. I respect others opinions on a good or bad movie. Mad Max Fury Road was entertaining and a visual surround sound masterpiece, but because Max was secondary in his own film series, I will never buy it. I saw it once in the theater and didnt like it as much as so many who were wowed by all the visuals. Ford v Ferrari was amazing.
Love your username! Yeah, I can see where having Max not be the main character would be disappointing. What about the new Furiosa movie? Do you plan to see it?
I agrre with the visuals and sound quality. Just watched Dune 1 and 2. Really impressed by the technical qualities! One thing I DON'T understand is, that it seems, everybody is in awe about Mad Max - Fury Road. Me and my friends all agree that it was an absolute horseshit! NOTHING happens except a lot of straight forward driving with some weirdos spraying fire while they are playing the guitar! I can accept it as demo material where it is in the top class but as a movie it is a total letdown and I find it really difficult to understand why anyone would find it other than just a total waste of time...
Mad Max seems to be a controversial movie in that regard. I’ve seen multiple people express a similar opinion that it’s highly overrated. Some people love it, some people hate it 🤷♂️
dolby labs atmos is so technically flawed of 11 years now , i can't be bothered playing it anymore , stormaudio isp 32 mk3 is rubbish , trinnov is rubbish , JBL is rubbish even CP850 and CP950 rubbish , gravity , no i think its now rubbish even thou my THX cinema would put a lot of home theatres in the dust with your overhead surrounds , they are not atmos speakers ! they are a speaker used for overhead surround
