The second Test in Adelaide in 2006 set the scene for one of the most incredible Australian victories in Ashes history. With a draw looking almost certain on the final day, Shane Warne led the Aussies to a remarkable win.
I have so much #respect for flintoff he loves the game and participating in that video is just one of the many things that prove him as a true gentleman. As much as I would love to hate him as a Pom and all, I can't due to his actions in the edgbaston test 2005
@@keeganharvey6007 Yeah that epic photo of him consoling Brett Lee show a character. I hope we don't each other just because if cricket. I think only 1 in 25,000 English kids ever play cricket so they might wonder why Australians hate them!😂🤣
@@keeganharvey6007 I cannot hate Flintoff, it is impossible, he is my favourite international player of all time. My favourite All rounder and definitely my favourite Englishman. He was an absolute star of the game and massive personality, plus he had a killer voice and personality haha. I am an Aussie fan, but even after Edgebaston 2005, I could never hate him. If there was an Englishman that I would want to play for Australia, it would be him all day.
100% Freddy was an absolute class act, such a good Bowler and decent bat as well. Very handy player and had a great sense of humour. I loved when he was chirping to Yuvraj Singh while Broad was bowling haha. 6 sixes. He was awesome.
I watched every amazing minute of this game. This test epitomizes what is so brilliant about TEST cricket over 5 days. Attack, defense, timing, bowling, field placement, catching, batting..scoring! A test can change on the turn of a moment! Some people just don't realise that....they love the shorter game. I love it all.... but prefer tests...then ODI...and then 20/20
I agree Paul. I remember this match well. I was 26 and running a workshop, so I made sure all of the radios were on ABC, then I'd rush home to catch the last session on TV. My girlfriend at the time had no interest in cricket, but she was up to visit on day five. We got home, and I made it clear that we were watching a history making match. My best memory from all of it, is that she now loves cricket and watches it because of the Tests. It's a final day I won't forget, and have watched the DVD many time since. Brilliant cricketers, and role models for us all.
Absolutely true mate , test is 100% competition . odi and t20 cricket is more about exhibition to attract the people's In batsman hitting sixes only thing pleasing is sound of bat , not much pleasing to eyes Test cricket is watchful all the way through , even today's test cricket as well . No difference still every run , every wicket , every catch is worthy in tests
Love him or hate him, Warne has always had a knack of predicting the right outcomes and then making it happen. He did it during the semifinals of 1999 world cup and does it here again!
"The thing about cricket is that you can see the out come way before it actually happened" Golden word form champion cricketer he won the tri-series after this test series beating world champ in white ball take a bow Freddie😊👌
@@SilentHotdog28 Gilly certainly the best batsman-keeper of all time, but definitely not the best keeper. Healy was a FAR better keeper. Ponting was not the best captain either - Taylor was a much better Aussie captain. I agree with best bowler ever though...
@@Adam-oy4ix I don't know where you get Healy is better than Adam lol, Adam played less tests and achieved more with his keeping, even if you look at their other match types (ODI, FC, LA) Adam outperformed Healy in dismissals (both in stumpings and catches) The only reason why people say Healy is better than Gilly is because Healy was there first and got preferential treatment for being the veteran. But Gilly is the better Gloveman. (The only people who you could argue for being better are maybe Mark Boucher and Andy Flower). But I'd have Gilly in my side 10 times out of 10 over any keeper in history.
@@Adam-oy4ix On the Captain point, it is debatable, we have had some very good captains, Steve Waugh, Bradman, Ponting, Taylor, Clarke. I guess I was a little biased on that part since out of those Ponting is my favourite.
wow, goosebumps! i was lucky enough to be there that 5th day, will never forget the noise and excitement towards the end of the day, through the run chase.. Nothing compares to test match cricket, this match proves it!
I think this has to be the greatest Test match win ever (or at least very close to it). It was so clutch, the mammoth task they had ahead of them, having to get 9 wickets and chase all in a day's play...........just unbelievable.
@@dazaspc Yeah nah sorry mate gotta hard disagree on that. Taylor was a bit like Ian Chappell or Stephen Fleming, wasn't the best bat in the team but brilliant tacticians, and respected by everyone in the team and the public. Warne, while also being a great tactician, has always been in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons, and captaincy definitely would not have changed that imo, it's just who he is.
@@dazaspc No it was his off field indiscretions. Nothing to do with being a drone or being unopinionated. He would certainly have been a great leader for Australian cricket *on the field*. But off the field it's like picking a league player who was into partying hard and a hit with the women. To this day, Tim Paine was held under that same pressured expectation. Warner as well altho his ball tampering is a big black mark too.
@@dazaspc Are you kidding? Did you see the early day squads Taylor had? Gavin Robertson, Matthews, Paul Wilson, Peter Macintyre, Tim May, Jo Angel... Taylor developed the players that Steve Waugh used to dominate the world. He gave Australian cricket the boost from Border's hard nosed strength to out and out matchwinners. Taylor's captaincy is what nurtured Shane Warne into who he is today. Taylor's batting was overlooked when out of form for patches specifically because his captaincy elevated the side so much it was a huge advantage to having him running the team on the field.
Mark Taylor: "Warnie has a habit of making things happen" That has got to be one of the greatest understatements in sport! That is like saying Tiger woods makes a few shots under pressure...LMAO They are both FREAKS in doing that! ...Both have changed their respective games ...and both NEVER EVER EVER GIVE UP!!!!
remember watching that Match, sitting at home in the Riverland, always knowing that a test match is never over until the final ball, to see our guys pulling off the miracle in Adelaide was always something to be proud of. beating England in cricket is always a great moment.
Adelaide always has witnessed some unbelievable spirit from various teams. Australia in 2006 were behind the game, but still they, especially Warne, had that belief of winning that Test match, and they won. In 2014 too, India weren't going good in the first 3 days. Still they, especially Kohli, believed they could chase 365 on Day 5 and win it for India. Unbelievable spirit!! But unfortunately, they lost.
I had seen the first test in that series but after that I was in hospital for a very long time and because I was very ill I was not expected to survive I did not see anymore of that series but I survived and amazingly I did not know any of the results as I had been in ICU and unconscious a lot. My Uncle rocked up at my home with all of the dvds of the series and he and I watched each test match in order and I have never enjoyed a series as much as this one it will stay with me for the rest of my life and yes my uncle is a legend.
Definitely the finest cricket mind I have ever seen, and I went to my first Ashes Test at the SCG in 1959 and hero worshipped Norman O'Neill from then until he retired. Warne had more cricket "smarts" than even Richie Benaud. (There has never been a thrill like it, your first test at the SCG.........until I discovered motorbikes in 1969!!!! That is why I am now known as "pegleg Pete!" I'm 68 and I still think I could open for Oz but that first single.......if I started running now, I'd be there by next Christmas.) God, how I love cricket!!!
How that England side lost 0-5 is beyond me, it was stacked all through the order. They made Mammoth totals, bowled really well and fielded really well. That series realistically should have been closer. I know that Aus side is the best in Cricket history, but damn that England side was good too. We might actually have a contest on our hands if that England side was playing instead of the current England side.
The Australian team was on such an absurd level back then that people forget how good that English team was too. They would have absolutely obliterated either team's Ashes squad from the last 4-5 years
England only made one big total, others were just good scores well within reach. As talented as they were, they didn't stand a chance against the Australian team of the time.
I love Hussey. Great player and a true legend of cricket. He's my favourite player and I inspire to be like him. Wanna meet him some day and learn from him. #Mrcricketisalegend Go Huss
THE KING is dead. He was the lead to drive the Aussie win in this amazing Test Match. @ 1:07 HE KNEW. I wish that Warnie was still alive - his commentary and coaching would be priceless... The whole world will miss you, mate. 😢😢 M 🦘🏏😎
This is why test cricket is the pinnacle. It's never over till it's over. Till that last ball, last run, both teams are still in the game. After five days, to finish like that. How can anything be better?
It was said somewhere, am not able to recall where, but, a comment concerning Les Burdett, curator of the Adelaide Oval, was that he was in the doghouse for the first 4 days of this test match. At the end of the last day, due to the finish of the test match, he was elevated to the Penthouse! It would be an interesting exercise to go back through the Adelaide records, and find out just how many test matches finished 1) On the last day 2) In the last session 3) In the last hour, and 4) What the win / loss /draw record of Australia is at Adelaide Oval against all teams.
Without warne, Aussies don’t win that game. Hussey absolutely clutch player. Everyone in that Aussie side contributed during that win. I won’t ever forget that day. Absolutely awesome watching the Aussies tick off every run and then complete the Victory and me going absolutely nuts, my mum wondering what was happening lol. RIP Warnie
Incredible really. I remember after the close of the first innings, it was so late in the game that the very idea of either team winning seemed absurd.
As an Australian fan I find Freddy my favourite cricketer, always entertaining and fair. A real gentleman. and think that is the mood within the Oz fan ranks
4:43 did anyone else feel the same yesterday when the Aussies beat Pakistan??. Huss is rightfully named mr cricket. My friends sometimes call me mr cricket because my bedroom is cricket themed but I respond with mike Hussey is mr cricket and I'm his favourite nephew. One of the best tests in history and the best in ashes. When Huss hit that cover drive to win, shivers were sent down my spine. Love Bill lawry's commentary too "STRAIGHT DOWN HIS THROAT! CAUGHT AT SECOND GULLY, THIRD FORTH SLIP WHO CARES!!!"
On the morning on day 5, Stuart clark bowled like the first 10 or 12 overs from 1 end while warnie bowled at the other end, stuart clark beet the bat like 10 times and went for about 10 runs off his overs, gave England absolutely nothing and warnie and the others cashed in, very important part of that that victory
Cricket australia in 2-3 years time (10 years after all these videos from this series were made) need to make a few more. No specific moments from 13/14 as that was the series of Johnson. But his 7/40 could be one Nothing specific from 15 17/18 could be smiths first ton. 19 would be smiths series or at least his first match. And also stokes at hedingly 21/22 would be first ball of the series, starc bowling burns
all credit goes to that team of the great australian madness. come what may, irrespective of the conditions and the other factors, we must reign supremacy as the winner, and mostly they were. leaving oppositions hopeless
