@@nodrog567 I haven't done anything to the electronics since I got it. I replaced a reel hub and realized a few other mechanical things but it records and plays fine. I'd love to get the correct MRL and really set it up well. It does sound great already though
Many thanks for the video Grady. What a beautiful machine. And it sounds amazing. Sometimes I really wish I was back in the old days. Things may not necessarily have been better back then but they were different in a very pleasant way. But probably this sentimentality is normal when you realize that you are slowly but surely getting old....:) Best regards from Germany, Marcus
Thank you so much! I just enjoy the analog sounds and older workflow. Mostly I collect the inexpensive things I can afford to show in videos. I hope you and Marcus are doing well!
I'm in the process of making new side panels for the 80-8. I'll post a video when it's done. It already works and sounds excellent but needed a little help cosmetically.
@@torocruz1192 those Scullys are supposed to sound really nice. I'm a huge fan of the 80-8. I have some dbx units for mine but I didn't use them since I was going for more vibe.
@@TwinCreekAudioThey do sound really good, but so does the teac 80-8. Different sounds imho the teac is nice and punchy while the scully is more “open” I dun know. Great machines my guy. Keep up the good work. Your shit is on point 💪🏽✌🏽
They made a varisoeed option for the 80-8 which mine doesn't have. I think it does sound s bit better than than the 38 but is probably noisier and the transport isn't as refined. For most uses today, it's probably more than fine. I love the way it sounds personally.
Hey Grady just looking through my local marketplace..right now there is a... soundcraft spirit studio 24 channel $300 ( looks dodgey..seller not if it working etc) Tascam M2524 , soundcraft spirit studio 16 channel, behringer mx9000 24channel...all listed at $500, souncraft k1 --16 $750...are any of these desks ok for hybrid mixing? interested to hear your thoughts. I now have a 24output interface set up..using a few old motu boxes and an old 2012 mac mini. currently got a old yamaha but only 16 channels...can you recomend some old desks makes and models? I want at least 8 direct outs for recording my drums into Reaper, and 24 channels for mixing..I'm in Australia...less choices when it comes to vintage desks. Plenty soundcrafts, mackie, yamaha..some uk like sountracs occasionally, studiomaster etc. Slowly putting my studio in place..and still inspired Twin Creek Audio channel.
The Soundcraft Spirit Studio models are probably the best of the consoles you mention. The Tascam M2524 sounds good but is very noisy from my experience with the M2516 model. The K1 probably sounds good but I no personal experience with that model and it was designed for live sound or theater. Soundtracs are probably another good choice and the older Mackie 8 Bus consoles like the one I've featured aren't bad either. Mackies at least have decent preamps and very good summing amps. Soundtracs are usually affordable used and I've enjoyed using all of their consoles. I have always liked music that comes from Australia. Some of my favorite bands are from there. Best of luck on your search and let me know what you find. Condition is really important with used consoles. I'd rather have a working Mackie than a broken Soundcraft though I do prefer the sound of the later. I've owned fairly large number of consoles over the years and used even more. Always happy to help!
