You keep saying baby boomers, but we were children during the 50's and 60's. The adults during that time were the greatest generation. Woodstock was a thing for boomers, though.

We are the baby boomers if you were a child in the 1950s or 1960s. Definition is anyone born from 1946-1964.

I was born in 1967 in New Britain Ct. I began school there, then we moved to Florida in the early 70's. Drive In's were all the rage then, (both in NB and Miami) we went often, even with sit in theatres. We had a manual typewriter at home that was used quite often by my parents. Writing letters back home, was something that we did often as well. In grade school, we had penmanship (writing on paper/cursive studies). I also has Spanish lessons from 2nd grade through college. By the time I graduated HS it was a mandatory skill you needed to graduate. In junior high, we had a 4 part study series (Typing/Home Economics (cooking/sewing)/Graphic Arts/Wood working). The Library was part of every day life, including the Encyclopedia Britannica. On Summer vacations traveling back North, we had those Trip Tik Maps that were a bundled package of page turning maps to get from Miami back to New Britain, Ct. I am glad we had that 4 part home series, because I use those skills to this very day. My grandparents had a Large furniture case Record Player/Radio that played the 78rpm records. Those very heavy thick records. We also had a 33 rpm furniture box with the fold out record player. I got my first formal record player at 10 for my birthday. Our 33 rpm record player had the 45 rpm square attachment that went on the center post to hold the record in place.

As a member of the "paper map" generation, I would never use ink or highlighter on a map. They were not "single use" items, I'd need it for MANY trips. Also, "...each stroke heightening the anticipation of the adventure ahead of them as they eagerly traced picturesque routes on meandering highways." Creative "word fill" but, no... that was not a thing. Try: The joyous squeals of children embarking on a family holiday were soon, yet inevitably, interrupted by a very agitated and sweaty father screaming, "Just give me the fucking map Sharon !"

Adjusting drum brakes, gapping points, setting idle and timing by ear. Standard transmissions. Ashtrays and coffee cups/saucers already on the table at the restaurant. The Blue Plate Special. Full Service gas station attendants. Rabbit Ears on the black and white TV. Reading a book. Ahhh the good old days

The loss of the telephone operator (dial 0 for operator) was huge. It was a live person whod give you better help in finding a needed business (such as a locksmith) than an automated look-up that might give you a biz no longer in business.

The loss of the secretary is a huge loss. MBAs gave office employees a computer as a pathetic substitute. Secretaries were often the "glue" for organizations, with all sorts of knowledge that helped ppl make their biz work smoothly.

Four hundred THOUSAND people attended Woodstock, not 400. 🤦 And fax machines are just now dying out completely. They didn't really take off in most offices until the mid 1980s. They were too big, cumbersome, and expensive prior to then.

Paper maps are still good for traveling across the country. A GPS can show a traveler to get from point A to point B. But in between, a traveler could not be aware what’s in between or nearby unless a paper map is used.

Landline (2 wire) "old-fashioned " phones are way superior to VOIP phones bc they were powered by current from the central exchange... so that it would still work through the entirety of a home power failure. Not all new technology is better.

I don't think reading a newspaper or using a typewriter or playing a record is an "insane" skill only Boomers had. And going to a drive-in or buying a soda at is not "skill." FAX machines are still used. And don't get me started on cursive! Silly video.

I am 59 YO. As a youth, I worked in movie theaters. I learned at the hands of masters how to run projectors. I even worked CARBON -ARC light sources. But in the 90's, working at a film festival where they demonstrated digitial projection, I knew that job was ending.
