Very nice story. Been dory fishing all my life, for 63 years. Started with my dad in a double ender, then on to commercial fishing and now sport fishing. It's a tremendous legacy. Jack Gillman was always a solid rock of a fisherman, it was good to see him in the story.
I also spent many summers there fishing with my Stepdad Ernie Edmunds. I can’t think of a better way to have grown up lots of great stories. Anyone remember the Dunes dance hall that was on the beach?
When I was 6 years old my first ocean fishing was here off the beach in my grandfather's bartender. I am now 62-year-old with a Dory in my driveway that is 85% done and will be launching from the beach in summer 2023. I have an immigrant Romanian family are my friends that are coming along on a fishing adventure the kids will always remember like I still see in my head the day at 6 years old going through the surf and catching so many salmon.
Visited this place on 05/26/24 ... beautiful is a very underrated word! Calm day yet saw some 5 footers rolling in.. makes you wonder what a gnarly day would look like!
@Oregon Public Broadcasting - What year was this first aired? Also, I did not see in the credits the narrator. Him and Steve Amen were the primary voices of Oregon Filed guide when it started. ❤
Not realistic directly into the surf. Alternative is to launch from ramp in river, then head out to sea over the bar. Both are a super good time, or not so much depending on a few things..
If he’s a schoolteacher he should have the sense to put a life jacket on him and neglecting his children in this way you know how awful that is out there the kid goes over what are you gonna do jump in after him and leave the other one what the fuck is wrong with people you can afford the boat you can afford goddamn life jackets
Not sure what you mean by "put a life jacket on him." Both boys in the bow are wearing life jackets. The father doesn't appear to be wearing a life jacket. Do you have a problem with the father not wearing a life jacket? Oregon boat regulations require life jackets and a floatation device be on board. Even if father not wearing one, l have no reason to think he can't afford a life jacket. I spent a summer fishing a dory out of Pacific City years ago. The clip of the father taking his two boys out does not appear to me that the father is taking an excessive risk.
@@Sabaka1954 You might know also that kids are required by Oregon law to have a life jacket on at all times. My first ocean fishing at 6 years old was from by grandfathers 19 foot bartender off the beach here. I'm now 62 yrs old with an 85% complete dory in the driveway so a time in age is a time to retry the beach launch again at Pacific city is coming in summer 2023. I am bringing a family friend of immigrants from Romania with 3 kids that love trout fish .
