Devin Campbell You must confuse Elephants with Rhinos. Elephants are extremely smart and often roll up their trunks when in water or when they are in a duel. And there is no way a Black mamba would ever reach the Elephant's ears. It would get crushed to death long before that

The elephant's pause before entering is out of courtesy and respect for the hippo's territory. Almost like telling hippos what he's about to do and warning them of the possible dangers if they dont give him right of way. Hippos in turn appreciate the courtesy and respect and give elephant the red carpet welcome. They have no choice, but man, what respect and courtesy on both sides. Amazing!

The hippos don't mess with something bigger than them so they let him pass. Apparently they don't mind the people nearby filming and taking pictures. They are probably used to them. Some of those hippos look young and not fully grown yet. They usually tend to shy away rather than attack and seldom on an elephant.

To be fair the bull elephant is the true king of the jungle, up to 8 tons there is nothing it fears, even full size crocs are no match for them when they snap at their trunks, with tusks that long they push anything around, as here it bulldozed his way across the river gently nudged the hippos because they know what will happen when he gets mad

I like how the elephant was calm yet dominating, didn't make any sudden movements or roar, & gave the hippos enough time to comfortably move out his way without much disturbance or chaos. Handled like a boss.
