Caitlin has the eagle eye! Remember the video(s) where she pointed out like 15 cottonmouths in 15 minutes? Sorry Noah, we gotta give the show to Caitlin now 😂.
@tkreitler

It would be easy to get the impression from Noah's videos that herps are everywhere and the populations are healthy. Noah spends a tremendous amount of time looking and has learned where and when to look. Go out and try to find them consistently if you're not convinced. While some species are doing well, many are not. If you have the means, consider buying raffle tickets or otherwise donating to the Orianne Society. They are doing the work of protecting the endangered herps so they don't disappear.

Honestly, this is making me think of my childhood in MS. I used to snake hunt all the time, and handled so many rat snakes and a few gophers. I left the rattlers, moccasin's and coppers alone, but they were always so fat and pretty.

Great video, as always! Copperheads are highly underrated. They're absolutely beautiful, 1 of the most beautiful snakes in North America. I have never seen a chill glass snake lizard. The ones I saw were very wary and very fast. When I get anywhere near one, it bolts explosively and is gone in 2 seconds.

@NKFherping
@NKFherping 7 месяцев назад
It certainly can, but usually snakes will rely on camouflage first before trying to flee. Some species are more wary than others. And snakes do not have ears, so they can only feel vibrations which also helps.
@onemercilessming1342
@onemercilessming1342 7 месяцев назад
@NKFherping My grandparents ran a farm. We had an army of cats to keep the rodent population away from the corn cribs and feed bins. If you've ever read the poem, "A Narrow Fellow In the Grass", then you know that moment when the blades of grass or stalks of wheat part and an "s"- shape goes away. We children made a lot of noise at play and our running steps likely created too much vibration for the rattlers, cottonmouths, grass snakes, and black snakes that lurked on the acreage. I always thought that the farm equipment ran them off, too. Thank you for the response. I wish you well.

Nice corn snake, glass lizard and the ratsnake plus copperheads combo. You had amazing luck despite the full moon. My experience says that the full moon is terrible for animal numbers. You may still find something interesting, but at a lower density.

Very informative. I live less than 50 miles from New York City, but I still get quite a few snakes near the house. Mostly garter snakes, and we just leave them alone. A few copperheads. If I don’t know the species, I have to be careful because of my grandkids and dogs. I saw a “checkerboard” recently, and I’m sorry to say I killed it because I’d never seen it before. I made a few screenshots of your video so I can identify a harmless snake that’s good for the environment, and should definitely not be killed.

Cornsnake's belly checkering was gorgeous. You guys keep trying to move the snakes off the road into, what you perceive to be safety, but they are there because they are cold blooded and come out to capture the last heat of the road. Nice video, but you could provide more information about each species to educate people on each one. Still, good work.
