@@adriannecote5319 Yes, I had to get approval when I brought music to school initially. It was like that from 1-12 grade. However, I eventually won them over. I brought music to play during assignments. Faculty saw class grades and attendance improve. This was in the 70's. I was the first to use music, slide projection, costumes, and tools for presentations at school. My best was in high school. I played "Flight Of Icarus" by Iron Maiden in English Literature class along while describing Henri Matisse's corresponding art piece. A comparison and contrast of the sound and visual. Music is my passion. It gets me thru life. Apologies for this lengthy response. Peace.🙏

From their 1972 album Toulouse Street, this is one of the few songs they didn't write. They heard The Byrds cover this song in 1969 and decided to do their version. Their version is distinguished by guitarist Pat Simmons, who sang lead on "Black Water", preaching the vocals "Jesus , He's my Friend". This song made it to Number 35 on The Billboard Hot 100's. Such a great tune, with great guitars, organs and vocals, and great tempo that just keeps you interested. Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️ ❤️ 🇨🇦🇨🇦

The first time I heard the phrase, JESUS IS JUST ALRIGHT WITH ME. It came from a stoner in high school. I didn't know what he meant, but the way he said through his drug filled haze it made perfect sense. He told me it was the current song by the Doobie Brothers and that it was really cool. And that afternoon on the radio I heard it. And I couldn't agree more. 👍 My favorites from them are TKAE ME ON YOUR ARMS AND ROCK ME, LISTEN TO THE MUSIC, ROCKING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, and TAKING IT TO THE STREETS. The last song with Michael McDonald on lead vocals. Enjoy

Back in the day this was one of the first songs used by what the older people called the “hippie Jesus freak” movement. As the younger generation sought a way to express their beliefs outside of the mainstream culture this is what they used. They had the faith but wanted to express it in their own way. If you haven’t already heard it another of the early songs was done by Brewer and Shipley called “One Toke Over The Line.” On a different note I once saw a special on tv about the Doobies as they were called that showed everyone who’d been involved up until then with the music of the band. If I remember correctly at that time which was about fifteen years of the band performing they had around seventy people that had come and gone with some being there multiple times as their careers allowed.

They are a great band. The first time I saw them was in 1972 and at that time they were touring with Three Dog Night as the lead in band. I remember them doing this song and Lusten To The Music.

They were diverse in a time when that wasn’t the norm. They were a big group but each and every one was an amazingly talented musician. The Doobies were a once in a lifetime band and I so happy they were a huge part to the soundtrack of my youth and I made them a huge part of my children’s soundtrack of life. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Bands were more likely to be diverse in the 1970's. In the '80's, with the advent of music videos, marketing clowns pushed bands to be made up of one race for marketing purposes.

I love the Doobie Brothers. They were the epitome of a rhythm and blues band with Rock and Roll flare. You can't go wrong with any of their music. Pure 70's. A story about this song in particular: In high school, I took a Latin class and at some point in the semester the teacher got sick. So, we had to have a substitute for a couple of weeks. Unfortunately, none of the substitutes knew how to teach Latin, LOL. So, our substitute would let the few of us in the class study or socialize as long as we didn't get too rowdy. Yes, early 80's. We had stereo with cassette and record capabilities for class and I had some cassette tapes with me. One of them was The Doobie Brothers Best. So, I put it in to play. When this song came on, the teacher got up and started dancing light she was in church. It was awesome. When class was over, she asked what was the bands name and name of the song so she could buy it and take it to church for them to play. TRUE STORY!!! Those were the days! Couldn't tell you a thing I learned in Latin, though!

The title could throw you off because you can take it two different ways: Jesus is just alright can mean, He's "just okay" or the way I believe they meant it is: He's just awesome! Great song and great reaction 🙂

One of their very best songs, this gave us chills back in the day and that album was in heavy rotation. Another band that is underrated and hardly reacted to is Savoy Brown, Kim Simmons, the lead guitarist and sometime vocalist, songwriter and founder is an utter legend. I saw him 4 times between 1973 and 2001 and he always put on a killer show, no matter who was in the band with him. Try from their classic album Looking In (great cover), try Poor Girl, one of many great songs from them. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶

Another early Doobie Brothers classic you should check out is "Take Me In Your Arms," a strong rocker. One of their later hits, more mellow with a great message, is "Takin' it to the Streets."
