Amazing: From Photo to Model Recreating a Southern Region Goods Train [Railway history]

Inspired by a photo from a Southern Region railway group, this video attempts to recreate a classic 1965 goods train!
We follow a Standard Class 4 locomotive hauling a train of vans, likely carrying flowers from the Channel Islands, as it makes its way from Weymouth to arrival at Bevois Park Yard Southampton.
While the model scales down the real train's size, it captures the essence of the scene with the help of some supercharged model sounds and special effects!
Thanks to Nigel for allowing us to use his photo. Let us know what you think of the recreation and the unique audio in the comments below!

The sound is excellent. Both locomotives run beautifully and the vans make exactly the right sound of a fast-running fitted goods, something I've always liked.

Huh, that really is quite an interesting note on the age of the real locomotives. I never really considered that. Just diesel new, steam old. Great work as usual. My family are from Guernsey so channel island connections are always welcome :)

Thanks, yes I was surprised about the locos, I always check to make sure they could have met and that's when I discovered it. Think the 08 became 08 187.

Mike, could there be fruit in some of the vans? I have a rake of Mainline/Bachmann GWR fruit vans with the tampo print "return to Weymouth" or "return to Weymouth Quay". It is amazing how your skilled photography makes your excellent layout look so large, when compared with the still at the start of the video.

Aww that's very kind of you. Research suggests flowers on this occasion but without any doubt Weymouth handled lots of Channel Island traffic which later in the year would be potatoes and tomatoes

Great research as always! Love Nigel's picture of the train. I'm glad you acknowledged that Nigel took the picture and you asked his permission to use it in this video, unlike some who pinch other peoples content. While your loco and tender do differ some from the photo, you have still captured the spirit of BR Southern Region in the late 50's to early 60's. Bill and Janet from California

You absolutely nailed it for me! this video is right up my street. Period, traffic the lot. This is along the same lines as what I spend most of my time running and I also joined my local Depot face book group some time ago, which has been the most valuable source of information for me. I think that your sound recording works well with your type of filming and running. blends in well. How's the white metal birthday kit building going? Cheers Mike. very enjoyable.

Thanks so much 🙏 your depot? I'm glad you liked the sounds. Both locos are exceptional runners, the 350 absolutely taking me back to my days driving them. The std 4 now runs like a dream after I replaced it's motor lol

Another quality presentation, thanks. I'm interested in how you applied the headcode discs, especially the one on the smokebox door. I think SR headcodes are a bit of a minefield. I know there is the SR group resource online, but it does take a bit of wading through. For me anyhow. Keep up the great work Mike. Regards Chris.

Hi Chris, many thanks indeed for the kind comments. The discs I just copied the positions on the photo, they are made from paper hole punch cuts lol tiny bit of Tacky Wax to keep them in place. I used the Southern web site for guidance

I've looked at various reviews of other locos and issues. Cancelled my E1 and O1 orders. Part of that was due to the excessive lead time and uncertainty around my health. With that improving I may reconsider an E1. Any news on delivery date?
