Nice front garden walkaround , the seedling soursop looks amazingly healthy 👍

It should be healthy enough to make it through winter unprotected but at the risk of losing its first ever fruit.

We won't get the temperatures that you're having in Melbourne until early June in the Newcastle area, were still having days in the low to mid 20's °C wise with a freak 28°C day towards the end of April. Overnight it has cooled down to an overnight minimum of 11°C with a maximum of 14°C. The other freezing cold places in Australia during winter time are the Perisher Valley, the snowy mountains, Katoomba & in Queensland Stanthorpe & Warwick can get as cold as the temperatures that you mentioned. I am not sure if it gets down to -3°C in the upper Hunter region in my district which is 75-100 kilometres inland from my location but it does get colder to the point that icicles have been seen hanging off farm fences !

George, regarding your lilikoi (passiflora alata ) hand pollinating won’t help much from the passiflora edulis you have ) try to get those varieties: another passiflora alata seedling, passiflora quandrangularis (starts to die below 10 degrees , a hybrid of both : the mighty passiflora XDecasneana. Passiflora caerulea could work too as there are ornemental hybrids out of those two (passiflora Marijke). Less comptablie species mean less arils, therefore less food inside. Stick to the first option ( passiflora alata seedling or from cuttings from a different strain ) and you’ll be delighted by the best tasting passion fruit ever. I promise ! Cheers from the french Riviera, hot Mediterranean summer zone 9b where my alata took -1 this winter and holding the fruits from lasts autumn almost ready to eat turning yellow.

Been waiting for the part 2 all day good to see the start with the Jackfruit Tree. 👍With winter on the way I’m keen to see a paw paw update soon I bet you will only have one survivor the one near the Babaco 🌴. My Jackfruit is small than yours. So you should get fruit first plus I put mine in Shade which will take longer to fruit when it gets to fence height it will get lots of sun. Got Black Gold and Cosmic Gold but really want to get Honey Gold Jackfruit from Ross Creek I got the Honey Gold mango which is my Favourite Australian Mango 🥭 also got Cotton Candy Mango last week from Ross Creek. The cold months will test the Tropical Trees now already starting to move the Mangoes in Grow Bags to better positions. You have a great garden update 👍

I've had black sapote ripen in summer and autumn, a large tree with good water access would have a really long season

Seems like Melbourne should be zone 10a . 9b is 25f to 30f. Anyway every thing looks beautiful as always brother!

Thanks, Thomas! I don't fully rely on the USDA Zoning chart alone! The mean average temperature and rainfall give a clearer overall guide. Melbourne's annual average temperature is 58F, with just 25 inches of rainfall annually, Tallahassee is 68F, with 46 inches of rain and Fort Meyers is 74F and 44 inches. To summarize, my city receives half the annual rainfall of northern and southern Florida, plus it's up to 16F cooler on average! Going by the numbers above, I'm closer to a Zone 8, than 9 or 10. It's long sleeves and slacks kind of weather almost every day from March 20 to December 20, a damn long time for mango or jackfruit to wait each year. ps. your loquats hit my feed tonight, they look amazing!

Very Impressive! I wish my temperature was as tolerant as yours! Very rewarding i'm sure when you get to grow a fruit forest such as yours! Congratulations!

Thanks! I am fortunate to live in Melbourne. Although it's quite cold for over half the year, most people here have no idea what could be grown because of the endless cool season.

Can just leave tap water out in a watering can for 24hours and chlorine will evaporate. But I also think that the plants just respond better to rainwater full stop.

yeah pretty sure wilson has about the largest fruit and heaviest crop of any white sapote, I've been eating ones that look like yours for a month, probably three weeks left. Very small tree but multiple fruit larger than a baseball and still tasty custardy flavour with often fruity notes

Maybe it's time to consider a rainwater tank? You are correct about rainwater being better than tap water.

I've considered a tank many times over two decades.
