Our good friend and Matt's neighbor Kevin owns and operates True Shine Automotive. He specializes in automotive detailing and is going to help us make the 1934 Ford Tudor look brand new. While we could probably clean the interior ourselves, Kevin has the right tools and knowledge to get the best result. While the interior is pulled out for cleaning Matt applies some Eastwood Rust Encapsulator to seal up the floor. Matt also uses some SEM dye to match the corner panels to the rest of the clean interior. The final result is a complete transformation that has tricked a few visitors into thinking we had the car re-upholstered!!

I just want to say how great it is that you guys are gently restoring this car, rather than just ripping and replacing. This thing really is a time capsule. It's a piece of history, and it's really fantastic that you're preserving that history as you work on it.

It is really fun and challenging at the same time trying to embrace what was done while putting some small little personal touches on the car. I think it'll all still feel "old" when we're done!

I find it remarkable that the interior survived all these years to clean up as well as it did. My first thought was you ought to fab a whole new panel to cover the master cylinder but I feel your idea of putting tabs and cleaning up the original piece fell more in line with the spirit of the car. I'm really looking forward to the next installment.

It's time, I think, for a dual master cylinder. The way it is now, lose one brake line/cylinder and you've lost all brake pressure. Never fun! I'd look for a small fittable, power brake unit and plumb it into fronts one side, rears other. Or even cross-ways. You'll doubtless be going with a front disk clip soon anyhow - pref Mustang; good time to loot the master cylinder, too, if you're running with a parts car. Job looking lovely, so far - and I was really glad to see you clean the sludge out of the pan before starting it!

It looks like it came out of Rod & Custom back when it was a small TV Guide size magazine. The only Tuck & Roll car I ever owned was a 1950 Oldsmobile Holiday. It was black with all the moldings chromed. It was a fairly rare factory stick transmission car with a 1959 394. High 13's in street trim.

One of our favorite things to say back in the 60s at car shows, "I wonder how many nauga's died in the making of this show?". Every car had naugahyde because it was cheaper than leather, as well as more plentiful. AND it was simply the thing to have. Loving your channel. Keep it up. Regards, Solomon

Beautiful job on the car. The " super white" is a " warm white".When I mix a color like that I add a drop of China red to the Frost white color. It gives the appearance of white in normal sunlight. It is all a color temperature thing. I teach in a Collision repair program at a community college. I have been doing car building and rebuilding since the mid 70's. You guys are true " craftsman". My current project is a '40 Pontiac business coupe that I bought from the original owner. Keep up the great work!

OK I stumbled onto this site and binged on the 32 and 34 and know dream about finding my version of your 34. I am so hooked. Always wanted a classic Hot Rod. I did a search and found a 22 Stude with a Caddy OHV in rough incomplete state for $3,500. So yeah there may be an odd duck out there for me yet. You are doing the dream guy. So jealous and envious but happy for you. Please keep sharing you are feeding the future. I restore 1950's toy trains for my hobby but i want a T Bucket Pickup type Hot Rod to haul my trains around in. Just so much fun there, all stuff i know, points, carbs, good old car stuff. Thank You Matt. the 34 is looking really great. Motor needs carbs and pipes please. 265 is a great engine. 4 singles would look awesome. Take Care. D

I was kinda wondering how many people may criticize you as to wire wheeling the floor after cleaning the interior. Which was a great job, by the way. I understand how 'things' work out. You just get what you can done when you can. Same thing just happened to me. Been working on this apartment I will be moving into since Oct.. It's a really nice place, just hasn't been refreshed for about 40 yrs.. Anyway, I've got the ceilings and all the walls painted and I finally have to deal with a bit of stonework in the bathroom, about 15" high x 30" long up near the ceiling between 2 old beams. I thought I'd just have to touch up some joints, but alas, just pulled it all out and had to reset everything. It was just all the dust from the old mortar that had just crumbled with a screw driver. And there's an opening about the same size as above that goes into the living room which I didn't have the foresight to cover up, lol, right below. I also wish I had, had the foresight to use my small steamer, a Pur, for about $40 on the vaulted ceiling which consisted of insulated panels about 10" thick with a vinyl covering, between the exposed rafter beams, which had been soaking up cigarette smoke and from a woodstove for about 40 yrs.. Long story short, it took me 4 coats of paint, 2 Kilz primer and 2 coats of 'high hide' white from Loew's for about $110 to get the ceiling white again. I wish I had went over the ceiling panels with the steamer after scrubbing them with a 'soapy' mixture. Then give it 2 separate rinses with 2 different buckets and wipe it dry. Oh well, still trudging along and should be soon it will be finished. Then I get to bring up my '82 Yamaha 920 Virago and get to work on that. I found out why he was having carb problems. He failed to tape off the filler hole and there were globs of paint peeling off when I first looked into the tank, of course after buying it. I went for the rectangular headlight as the '81 Suzuki 750 GSEX, I once owned and when I sat on it back in the corner of the garage, it just felt right. Have to see how everything works out, lol. Thanks for sharing. Now I need to learn how to use this old '68 Kenmore sewing machine so I can make up a mask. Hate wearing it, but I just like to respect other people's spaces. For me its mostly for dealing with cashiers as they are 'stuck' there.

It's good you're keeping it as is and only doing the bare basics to tidy it up a bit. Modern updates would destroy what the car is. You should keep the original gauges as well, don't replace them with a multi gauge panel like everyone else does. What I could see of the master it looks like the same set up as my coupe - '39 master cylinder operating off the original actuator and drums all round. I'm running a '57 SBC, Wilcap adapter to a '39 box and '34 rear end, treat it right and it's all good as gold. We gotta keep 'em real. Keep up the good work.

Have you thought about powder coating those garnish mouldings in chrome? Got some new powder that does not have that blue tint that they used to have and it does a pretty amazing job of looking like chrome plating, only a fraction of the cost! Had a set of boot hinges that were badly pitted and was told they were beyond saving as they are pitted alloy. They were cleaned up on the buffer and the corrosion pits were cleaned with a dremel and teardrop carbide bit. The pits were filled with high temp metal rich epoxy. They were sanded back to profile and then powder coated in chrome and clear powder coat for UV protection. Job was a good one if a bit labour intensive. The powder coat will probably last better than the very poor plating we seem to be getting these days!
@IronTrapGarage
@IronTrapGarage 4 года назад
Chrome powder does look nice but won't look like true old chrome so I'd prefer to wait for some old chrome moldings or just repaint these white for now. Good idea, just not my cup of tea for this car! Thanks for watching!

Your detailed did a yeoman’s job on the interior and the painted panels look perfect on camera. You have a time capsule of an early hot rod and glad to see you are keeping it that way.

By design balls resister drops voltage from 12 volts to 9 after start. Thats the reason there's an external wire from starter to resister

I would of painted that small piece above the back window just so it will all match that way you won't see the off white of that small piece compared to the big pieces on each side of it that you just painted

Exactly! Would've taken another 10 minutes. Upper and lower, they stick out like a sore thumb..

Don't worry we will do that when we repaint the garnish molding. Didn't seem like they'd be that far off but they didn't age the same as the headliner and other parts.. just how it goes sometimes.

Matt. You should use the chrome look Eastwood powdercoat. That stuff is great. D👍🏻
@IronTrapGarage
@IronTrapGarage 4 года назад
I do like that stuff but it doesn't look like true chrome and on a part as in the open like these garnish moldings I'd want real chrome or just repaint them.

For the gauges Have you ever looked at VDO Gauges? beside from their cockpit series they make a classic series white on black and black on white with chrome surround. They last well too. They are a quality product. They also sell matching sender units with metric and imperial threads. It cleaned up nicely and its great to see a floor that you cant see the road through. I wish they'd made a neater job of the master cylinder access panel. Its not hard for you to fix, just a bit disappointing when they've done everything else so well. take care

Stunning!! Spray the interior mouldings with Spectrachrome. It's a true mirror finish & is a fraction of the cost!

Unfortunately that spray chrome doesn't hold up well to UV rays. But it is incredible stuff!

Great job as always. Kevin needs to advertise with the auction company. Maybe he can get a shot at detailing the other Larry cars through the new buyers. Would be great to see the 65 and 69 mustangs cleaned up like this.

We plan to have carpet made with white binding around the edges. I feel it fits the era and style of the interior and will complete the car nicely inside.
