Enoshima (江の島) is a small island in the Kanagawa Prefecture (where we live)! It is only a short train ride west of Kamakura, and is connected by bridge with the mainland. The island has so much to see: a shrine, park, observation tower and caves. Views of Mount Fuji can also be enjoyed on days with good visibility. This was one of the best sunsets we have seen in Japan so far! :)

This video brings back memories of my trip to Japan! Kamakura was my first destination after staying in Tokyo for 5 days, and I didnt know anything about it beforehand. Literally had no idea about Enoshima island even though my hotel happened to be right next to the bridge. I walked over the bridge out of sheer curiosity since it looked cool and was very pleased to discover what a beautiful island Enoshima was. Definitely one of the more memorable places I visited in Japan! 10/10 recommend.

Oddly enough, with its rugged, lush, hilly terrain and stunning beach and tidal areas, it reminds me of the Western Cape coastline of South Africa, the Sydney, Australia area coastline and the Bay of Biscay coastline in Spain! It sure must have been refreshing to go somewhere to soak in nature after spending so much time dealing with the Tokyo to Hiroshima megapolis. It seems the vendors and the other patrons were very polite and patient to you parents with small children( which is a great boon for visitors to Japan). Yeah, it sure seemed as though the girls were eager to literally soak in the tidal pools but they didn't seem to raise too much of a fuss to your parental edicts against it. That's good. More amazing shots on your part capturing the sheer natural and cultural beauty of that island. I hope one day you may be able to market and perhaps earn a good living off your gift. Thanks so much for this!

Lovely trip, but I confess the crowds of people would have triggered my anxieties! But the landscape is really awesome there! And I guess it is hard to find a "calm" place in Japan anyway, unless you go for a hike in the woods :) Love!

Be careful with the birds. There is a kind of hawk that attacks people in the area. Do not eat anything in unprotected areas. Always try to find a roof under which to eat. According to Wikipedia it is called "black kite" or とんび in Japanese. I love Enoshima, and I go there quite frequently. I like to walk all the way from Enoshima to Kamakura. There is a quite steep flight of stairs on the way to the cave. Better than any gym!

Looks like the family had a great day out 🙂 We also really enjoy exploring that area (except for the packed weekend traffic...) Had a chance yet to visit the Chiba peninsula? We've driven around the seaside via the Aqua-line (which is impressive in it's own right), though we were too late to take the Nokogiriyama ropeway that day. Curious to try again with a daytrip via the Tokyo Bay Ferry.

If you're looking for more island adventures, maybe for a weekend trip, you could look into the Izu islands. They are - for some reason - part of Tokyo prefecture and as such easily and relatively inexpensive to reach by ferry. They are a bit less touristy and offer a lot of nature and, of course, beaches. Noa is getting so big, I can hardly believe my eyes. Do you still have that toddler backpack?

If it's not red like ketchup there's a 90% chance it's red beans. I've had so many instances of digging into a snack expecting ketchup or barbeque and was greeted with...red bean paste.
@OurStorytoTell
@OurStorytoTell Месяц назад
Ooh that would be so interesting if the cucumber had red bean paste on it!! It was really bright in color. The taste didn't seem like red bean paste, but what do we know lol!?
@tk-iw4pe
@tk-iw4pe Месяц назад
could be red beans but i would guess it would be a plum paste. A bit sour, salty and savory. It should be good with cucumbers
@masayama1618
@masayama1618 Месяц назад
6:09 It's not red bean paste. The answer is a plum paste that's already @tk-iw4pe said. I think @OurStorytoTell perhaps have seen small read plum pickles called umeboshi in rice balls, japanese style meals and bentos. That red pastes with cucumbers was umeboshi pastes. You can buy them in spice sections of grocery stores.

Kamakura and Enoshima are overtourized, so it's best not to go there. Kyoto is also terrible.
