A first look at this bargain dual band mobile radio, 22watts out, colour screen and compact size, all at well under £5o.
Is it any good??

I have carried out tests on the transmitter running high power, on 145 MHz, 2 M band, the second harmonic is - 26dB down on the fundamental, the third harmonic - 62dB and the fourth at -65dB. It does not produce 25 watts on high power its closer to around the 20 watts. For example if we take 20 watts as a reference at 43 dBm the second harmonic is then 17 dBm which is around 50 milli watts pretty low power. As the radio will be connected to a "tuned aerial" this would also attenuate the second and other harmonics so we are looking at very weak signals over distance. 73's

I paid £27 for mine - on 2m it produces 4.5W and 24.5W. On 70cm a little less than that. I haven't had it on the bench yet, so haven't measured signal purity, though I had a local ham check the spectrum scope on his 705 and reckoned it's clean. The manual is actually written in English and the the thing has a cast alloy case. You couldn't buy the box for £27. I find the rx audio a bit flat, but on TX I switched between my 9700 and the IC-980Pro on the sly during a couple of contacts and no one commented. So the transmitted audio must be reasonable.

One of the USA youtubers that tested it said the second harmonic was not well supressed. I have had reports of good TX audio with mine.

Channel programming: - Press * on the microphone or V/M on the radio to select "frequency" mode (only displays VFO frequency) - program the frequency and offset, CTCSS codes, channel width using MENU 1.11, 1.12, 1.10, 1.2 etc. - Press FUN on the microphone and use the arrows to select the channel you want to save. "Cover" will overwrite the memory, "Save" will create a new entry. - Press * on the microphone or V/M on the radio to select "memory" mode (displays channel number, name and frequency) - Press FUN on the microphone, select SET (or press 3) and then submenu 3.21 "Name edit" - Use the up and down arrows to select letters and # or * to change the position of the letter in the name - Press FUN to remember the name Deleting a channel: - Press FUN on the microphone, select SET (or press 3) and then submenu 3.20 "Delete Ch" - Use the up and down arrows to select the channel number to be deleted and press FUN to confirm

i wonder if they remebered to put thermal paste between the final transistor and the body unlike the qyt kt 8900 where they did not put any thermal paste between the body and final transistor

Now is the time to get one of these, I'll bet the price will increase with its popularity. Ive just ordered one "mid video" from Ali Express. With the programming possibilities this could be channelised to Marine VHF. i wonder if, or when, it will be "chirp-able"

It looks like a rework of that Baojie BJ218, not an awful radio but a bit of a PITA to use. They tend to use low power finals and overvolt them on these things to get somewhere near the claimed power outage, that can make spurii worse (transistor output impedance is a function of input voltage so matching to filters can be a bit random) and you *really* have to make sure it's kept cool or it's byebye.
@M0UAW_IO83
@M0UAW_IO83 5 месяцев назад
Yeah, just seen the guts of one, the 5 pin TO-220 device that's mounted to the chassis near the three big capacitors is a boost converter IC which bumps up the 13.8V to over volt the final, just like the Baojie does. I've repaired a few of those which have cooked that part, I'm gonna guess I'll see a few of these too.
@KevinOReillyswl

I think heat could definitely be an issue for this Radio
@M0UAW_IO83
@M0UAW_IO83 5 месяцев назад
@@KevinOReillyswl The heatsinking for the final is pretty poor (*edit* on the Baojie, I've not seen one of these yet but it really does look very similar) but I've only replaced one so far, what's worse is the boost converter IC. It has a thermal shutdown and over current sense which, when it trips, 'burps' several times a second and makes horrendous splatter across approx 4MHz at pretty high power. The best bit is that you have no idea it's doing it unless you've a bandscope or spectrum analyser to look at.

I have found that this radio acts as Befenton 8118 and Sifang TM 8118 also Ticking comes from dual watch mode when you try to different bands to watch in the same time so dual watch is rather useless. How to enable channel scanning and broadcast FM radio?

it looks half tyt and half Leixen but the mic looks crt..... cant beat a budget uhf vhf for repeaters and local work. they may have raided the parts bin and added the letters ic to look better but if it works you can not grumble at all :D

I wanted to know if the FM radio (76-108) switches to the received signal when it receives a signal from VHF/UHF by pressing the FUN +7 button. Unfortunately mine doesn't have this function.

@KevinOReillyswl 5 месяцев назад
FUN +7 does switch mine to FM radio
@gabriele60
@gabriele60 5 месяцев назад
OK, thanks for the answer, but I was interested in knowing if it does the opposite, that is, when a vhf/UHf signal arrives the FM radio automatically switches off to listen to the incoming signal
@KevinOReillyswl

I could not get mine to do that. once it was in the FM band it stayed there.

I hate when they do ADS like this. They don't tell you that it's an amateur ham radio. And you need license for it. Governed by the FCC.. If you use this without having that amateur license, you can be fine and put in jail.
