@Andy Daniel - Clock didn't start until #20 in white touched the ball. You can see the reflection of the time clock on the court. Having said that, if he got the 1/2 court shot off . . he barely got it off.

It was very close. But I timed it at 2.98. That would read 2.9 on the game clock, so it makes sense. You also have to keep in mind that the clock operator can't anticipate when the ball will be touched, so there will be a fraction of a second of reaction time from when the ball is touched until the clock operator starts the clock. And I just realized your comment is 7 years old lol. You could be dead now. I hope not though.

@Andy Daniel I don't know how the Hell you came up with 3.4 or 3.5. It didn't take that long. But your point about when the clock is started is correct. The clock operator can't anticipate a touch. They have to wait until they see it actually touched. Human reaction time comes into play.

@@billyc768 I timed it at 3.38 seconds, from first tip to release, which was low compared to what I was anticipating, because watching the chaos before the shot felt like longer than that. I agree with the previous comments, he barely got it off, and was fortunate to have a clock operator who needed to be a bit quicker on the draw.

I'll take an 80% chance for one basket, then another roll of the dice for the other team to make a 3 in about 1 second, rather than throw the ball in the air and pray to god the other team doesn't get it. Again, that's all assuming the other team even has the wherewithal to foul in the first place. It's high school ball, not the NBA.

@@jerryscrappielife no, its not at the 15 second mark. Its a couple hundredths of a second away from the 16 second mark. Which means if you do the math, its nowhere near being 4 seconds as your original comment presumes. I have timed it, its about 2.8 to 3 seconds. This is more than reasonable given there was 2.9 seconds left on the clock.

I timed this about 15 times and each time was 3.3 to 3.4 seconds. It definitely took longer than 2.9.

In the other clips the consensus is that yes, he got it off in time, BUT the clock started way after the initial touch off the inbounds pass. A full second even. Too bad for the losing team on this one.

Yep, I timed it at 3.38, 3.26 if I am advocating for the shooter. They definitely benefited from a slow start of the clock. I was wondering what they based their judgement on as well. Either way, they made the wrong call.

I started my stop watch when the inbound pass was touched. By the time it reaches the actual shooter’s hand and he lodges a shot, 3.30 seconds had lapsed.

I didn’t time it precisely but I think I agree it was slightly more than 2.9 seconds. Trouble is replay would only take into account if the shot was off in time when looking at the game clock at the time of the shot. I don’t think any replay rule allows refs to go back and see when the clock started when the ball was inbounded. That was likely the issue here. (Putting a rule like that would cause its own controversies). There’s the 0.3 seconds tip-in only rule in the nba that partially addresses that issue. That came about when the Knicks “beat” the bulls on a 3 point buzzer shot when they only had 0.1 seconds left and the Knicks inbounded the ball and the shooter caught it, came down, then shot a 3 and they counted it! Lmao. Hometown timekeeper.

Agreed. Even considering that the clock is supposed to start when the ref's arm comes down, that was way more than 2.9 seconds. From the time the ref lowered his arm to the time of the shot leaving the hand....I time it as 4.495 seconds. Shouldn't have counted...white team wins.

Thats nothing like watching in real time from courtside where view is obstructed and its milliseconds you have to try and get it perfect. Theres this thing called "the human element" that happens in games...duhh. Also, that kid only had to hold the ball and it wouldnt have mattered. He decided to throw a ridiculously dumb pass..and thats what really cost them the game.

The OBVIOUS conclusion to this video is, the White Team was robbed because anyone that can count 0ne-thousand one, one-thousand two, one-thousand three can clearly see there was not enough time for that ball to go through the hoop. Maybe the clock operator didn't start the clock on time and I would know, for I am a retired basketball referee and it has happened while I was officiating a game. No way, No how, No good.... 3.2 seconds between first touch and when the ball left his hand. So, it was no good, but can't blame the refs there is no instant replay. The player who intercepted the pass had 1,000 options and chose the wrong 1.

There is a clock built into the video. The ball was touched a few tenths of a second after the :16 second mark of the video and the ball was released for the shot shortly after :19 seconds. Yes it might have been the clock was started half a second late but no more than that. If you counted 4 seconds you counted wrong.

There's no way that can be just half a second late. From the time the clock should've started, to the time the kid shot the ball....4.495 seconds at least. I timed it using Audacity to record the audio, and careful examination of the video. Not even close!

I watched it a few times and came to the same conclusion. The clock started a couple tenths of a second at/after the 16 second mark and shot it a couple tenths in at 19 seconds. There’s only one shot this reminds me of and it’s Derek Fisher vs the Spurs.

Homeboy throwing the ball in just wanted to pass it to himself so he could make history. I could imagine him saying... COACH! I can make the winning shot! Coach saying ummmm your gonna throw it in and someone else is better will take the shot! Then the player saying... UMMM COACH! I will show you! It took time for the inbounds play to work. if the one player from the white jersey team would have just thrown the ball 10 more feet higher in the air after he stole the pass, the clock really would have run out of time. Or maybe just hold onto the ball and not give the other team an assist. Amazing really so much went into this. Hard to believe the dude who took the ball in with the initial long pass is the one who came out the hero! Not sure that will ever happen again. Ever!

Same bull happened at my highschool game. 4 seconds left. Longs story short, pass inbound, couple dribbles, pass, missed shot. Offensive rebound, puts up another quick missed shot. Offensive rebound. He's swarmed passes out shoots another missed shot. Offensive rebound. Dribbles out shoots. Buzzer goes off as the ball sinks. We loose. This was about 15 seconds. It was absolutely intentional. We where at their gym. They didnt hit that buzzer until the ball sank.
