With the original Strawberry Shortcake dolls, the scents were quite literally baked into the base dolls and their hair, that’s why the scents haven’t faded much if at all.

Yeah my cousin had all the original ones. My favorite smells were Huckleberry Pie & Lemon Meringue. She had a creamy lemon smell.

I think they do a great job updating strawberry shortcake. The articulation is awesome! I don't like that they're surprised elements though. I think that all the accessories should be consistent. I do like the update on the face! But I was very disappointed the figures they put out, completely lacked the smell of the original strawberry shortcake releases. And to get an email back from them saying that some have smell and some don't... Good luck finding the ones that do... Kind of puts me in a spot to whether I want to support them or not.

Thanks for reviewing these 2 dolls in the same video! I watched both RB & SC cartoons as a young adult, but always resisted getting the dolls because my focus was solely on fashion dolls then & my funds were limited. When I saw these in Walmart the other night, not only were they too adorbs not to come home with me, but size was perfect for my ever decreasing amount of display space! And the affordable price made them both jump into my shopping cart, when I initially thought I’d have to choose between getting one or the other. I’m very pleased with the full body articulation, equivalent to a MTM Barbie, but at a lower price, with better clothing & complete accessories! I can’t wait to see the rest of the SC characters & add them to my collection soon. 🥰🌈🍓

Okay I am a Strawberry Shortcake diehard and I love to talk about it so thanks for giving me an excuse to do so lol. My collection is a bit of a brag point but I am just excited right now!!! I have tons of the originals both boxed and unboxed, berrykins and the fancy party pleasers and sweet sleepers. My original boxed SSC doll is signed by Muriel Fahrion. I also own the original Banana Twirl in the box. Okay thanks for putting up with my brags now onto Walmart at my Walmart they also had the new SSC large ragdoll with her adorable plushy hat and sparkly red dress! I got her, the large Rainbow Bright, large Decora, and all of the Strawberry dolls including the bake set. I CANNOT wait for the rest of the dolls! I was disappointed in the lack of scent for sure but I am so happy just to see them I can't really complain. I'm okay with the new style but like you I would love to see SSC expanded like other lines are, I want more clothes and new characters!! Also bought more vintage Barbies!! Thanks for your review!! Flying high here!

Lala Orange was displayed with her dress and boa surprise acessory which is where the confusion comes from (as well as they accidentally gave her organge blossoms orange shaped purse which is not hers LOL). Her standard outfit she comes with is her original look with the robe / tights. You can see the possible options of accessories in the RU-vid video TLS uploaded for strawberry shortcake and rainbow brite. It seems each character has 6 total accessories (2 standard and 2 surprises). Strawberry characters all come with a comb, pet with a mix of lunchbox /basket of fruit/ fruit purse/ dessert plate as the final accessory (or for plum pudding: notepad and raspberry tart: water pail). Plum pudding and Orange Blossom have one accessory I haven’t seen yet and I’m thinking some type of dessert plate. Rainbow brite characters vary with the standard being a comb, purse and lunchbox (varies in color: red, blue or yellow) and the last acessory a surprise : •Rainbow: Comb, twink Sprite purse, lunchbox (blue, red or yellow) and a possible mix of either a headband, skirt or legwarmers/ shoes. •Patty O’Green: Comb, frog purse, lunchbox and mix of skirt, leg warmers / shoes and I heard from a TLS representative that she comes with a box of bandaide. •Tickled pink: comb, blue butterfly purse, lunchbox and a mix of skirt, legwarmers / shoes and headband. •Indigo: comb, hammy sprite purse, lunchbox and a mix of skirt or shoes or gold crown. •Stormy: cloud purse, comb, lunchbox and either jacket or spike headband or boots. •Lala Orange: OJ Sprite purse, comb, lunchbox and mix of dress or boa or headband with bow. I’ve been studying the possible accessories for each of the characters because I want to collect them all. It does suck that you can’t get all of them in one purchase. There could be more but from what I’ve seen, these are the possible accessories you can get for each of the girls.

@@RoseOfTheAbyss I haven’t seen specifically pictures, just videos from sweet suites and the official local subjects RU-vid page when they uploaded vidoes for strawberry shortcake and rainbow brite. It’s like a commercial and showed off a lot of the accessories. Check it out if you haven’t seen it yet. It allowed me to spot / complete the list I had compiled of what accessories are possible to get. When I got Rainbow brite she seemed to have been paired this way: all had twink purse and comb and the other 2 were paired red lunchbox with shoes and legwarmers or Blue lunchbox with headband or yellow lunchbox with skirt. For strawberry, the comb and custard were standard and I found her the easiest to complete since her last 4 accessories were more assorted throughout different boxes. I love these dolls they are so cute!! Am an 80s kids I had the SC cat, both huge and small RB rug dolls. My RB box came with sandals plus leg warmers, everything else was the same as yours. My SC box came with a lunch box. My dolls didn't fall apart when I tested their arms and legs. But I didn't take off their clothes so there is that.

I definitely prefer the style of the original faces, but I think they've done a great job of updating it while staying sympathetic. I have them saved in my Amazon wish lists, but they're about $45 in Australia, so I'll have to ponder whether I get both. I'm leaning towards Rainbow Brite too, cuz I already have a bunch of Strawbz, and I'm not fully vibing with the satiny material choice either.

My Rainbow came with leg warmers and sandles instead of the skirt. I couldn't get her boots off, I didn't want to break her so I just gave up on trying to change them...lol 😆 I haven't gotten Strawberry yet, but I probably will 😊

You can heat the boots up with a hair dryer or boiling water to soften them up. I used a heat gun on mine and it made them super easy to remove.

For my Rainbow instead of the skirt mine came with red sandals and a pair of rainbow leg warmers. My Strawberry came with the basket of berries instead of cake. The other items were the same. In Canada they are $21.97 at Walmart. At ToysRUs they are over $27 each.

Strawberry Shortcake was my first favorite show, so you'd think I'd have more nostalgia for it, but no. Rainbow Brite wins hands down. They're both exceptionally cute though. I adore that surprise skirt, I hope mine gets has one. I was slightly broke during the amazon preorders so I'll have to pick one up at Walmart soon.

Rainbow Brite was one of my first forays into dolls as a kid, so I've always had a soft spot for her. I bought both the plush version and the small doll. I'm leaving the plush doll in her box, but opened the small version. I .... mostly like her. I wish her neck was slightly longer and she had better elbow articulation. I also wish her outfit was nicer. I was thinking about getting the rest of the Color Kids, but these bodies leave something to be desired.

I think the waist joint supposed to tilt as well, since it's a ball joint not a peg, usually every movable parts can be counted as point of articulation.

I had both dolls growing up. I had Rainbow Brite & Shy Violet dolls. Strawberry Shortcake, I had multiple of her alone with included the original rag doll. When I first found out that Rainbow Brite reproduction was out, I immediately want to get the my youngest niece one for her birthday. I went to Walmart to look at them to see what's what with both dolls. The Rainbow Brite doll from the 80s was at least 20", so I unfortunately changed my mind on getting the 12" doll. Saw the new Strawberry Shortcake rag doll with the looped yarn hair & that has to be the most unattractive rag doll I have ever seen. The eyes give me the creeps.

I owned the 80's Rainbow Brite as a kid. The comb is based on the 80's one, which also had a star. However the 80's one was larger and longer with teeth spaced farther apart because the dolls had yarn hair.

I’m team rainbow bright cause she’s my childhood sweetheart and I had her rag doll when I was a kid. I gasped when I saw her remake! It’s spelled Rainbow Brite, so that may have been the problem! Give that a whirl and see if it helps! :) She is a character from an 80s show, and was similar in popularity to strawberry shortcake! I always liked her more though! -source: an early 90s baby

I want to give this new mini doll iteration of Rainbow Brite a fair chance, but tbh I'm having a hard time getting used to how she looks. I had the 18" and 10" cloth-bodied Mattel dolls, as well as some of the smaller figurines (and lunch box, bed sheets, various articles of clothing...😅) when I was a small child in the 80s. They were my absolute favorite dolls, as the cartoon was one of my favorite shows. This new doll may do a more faithful job of reinterpreting the original character design that the previous fashion doll iterations from the early 2000s, but it still just doesn't feel quite like Rainbow Brite to me. That's just personal preference of course. For someone who doesn't have that deeply ingrained nostalgia there's probably way less judgement and personal bias involved. Based on this review I'll more inclined to add her to my collection, though, to support the brand and encourage them to add additional characters if nothing else (I will be sad indeed if they fail to revive Shy Violet!). But at the moment I'm much more excited about the new 12" cloth bodied dolls, which while not exactly the same are much closer in spirit to the ones I loved so dearly as a child. That RB is actually across the living room from me at the moment--a friend preordered her for me as a gift--but I'm exercising remarkable restraint in not opening or even looking at her until my birthday in a couple of weeks 🥰 Lastly, if I can end with a small...well I won't call it a nit-pick, more of a clarification? I would not classify the original Mattel dolls from the 80s as 'rag dolls'. To my mind they were more of a hybrid of sculpted plush and fashion dolls. While they did have soft bodies, they had fairly elaborate stitched details, their heads were rigid vinyl with rooted hair (granted it was yarn, but rooted nonetheless), and they had removable clothing. The most faithful reproductions of this style doll came out in the 2003 reboot, alongside the vinyl-bodied fashion doll with yarn hair shown in this video.

Does the reboot Strawberry have a similar skin tone to any of the original 80’s SS character dolls? I’m not interested in the new doll’s face/clothing design but the idea of possibly having a poseable body to do head-swaps with for some of my doubles of the 80s dolls is exciting! I saw Strawberry in store last night but I just couldn’t tell if she’d be a close enough color match since I didn’t have one of my dolls with me. Plus that Walmart overhead lighting can be deceiving lol

Noooooo why dont they have thigh swivels?! That's what's making her aittting pose harder than it should be. :( They're ao close! Even the made to move barbie knew to finally add thigh swivels. The waist swivel couldve also been a barbell joint

Wow that price is wild. I think for the fabric strawberry shortcake has a sort of cottage core simpler times vibe were rainbow bright is more futuristic. I think that is why the shine works for one and not the other. That said if that is where they are cutting cost I'm good with it.

We need to sue Loyal Subjects for false advertising for putting up that commercial with all the 5.5 inch dolls. They also have a Rainbow Brite commercial as well. Usually when toy companies put up commercials with all the toys advertised they need to come through. LS at least needs to explain why we didn't get others. Tell us to be patient there are quality control issues or something.

False advertising is when you are sold something under false pretenses... Not releasing something is NOT that 😭 The other characters are just going to come later I’m sure. They just launched, they have plenty of time to release the others 😭

They should have waited & released them in a wave like action figures. I think Loyal Subjects dropped the ball on this one. Their TMNT products are decent to these.

The strawberry shortcake doll kinda let me down, i understand what u mean about the satin hat, shes very countryside influenced and it just doesn't make sense, aswell as the super flimsy limbs... rainbow brite is great tho

Well in a way they did no 29 points of articulation which as a male consumer that is important. Plus the quality control issues as joints falling off. No scent at all so yes & no they did give some sense of false advertising

Not that I’ve seen, I’ve very actively tried my best to look into that to the best of my ability with any products I showcase but I always recommend doing your own research when possible. Generally these smaller companies are not into that nasty business
