The story behind building my dream movie car. I am a big collector of vintage Horror and masks and also a car enthusiast. This is many years in the making, it had to be perfect! #phantasm #doncoscarelli #phantasm2
I saw this car at MCACN in 2019 pictures and video can't do it justice, it is absolutely perfect and perfect rendition of the phantasm 2 car..I just read about it in mcg and was so excited to see this video the attention to detail and commitment to making this car turn out this amazing has to be acknowledged, well done! And thank you for posting!
Hey there, thank you so much! It’s funny how an idea can slowly turn into something like this overtime. So much went into building this car and it was worth the wait. Glad you got to see it in person! If you happen to be going to the nationals in Carlisle I’m going to have the car there for sure. The magazine feature was so cool, I still have a copy yet though ha ha.
@@RudysWorldOfficial everything that went into building the car paid off! You nailed it lol things like the correct turned down exhaust, Remington tires, sole driver's side mirror, tail panel treatment..really take the car to another level because they set it apart and show it is a perfect rendition of the phantasm 2 car....I will be at Carlisle, I haven't missed it once since '97 so hopefully see you and the cuda there! Thanks again
Absolutely brillant! Used to watch this film with my Grandad back when I was about 10 and loved it! Managed to find a copy of it locally and watched it last night (Phantasm II) and forgot how beautiful this car is!! Awesome!!
No complaints here. The 71 Cuda is possibly the coolest car ever built. Your Phantasm recreation gives it an even cooler image. I never thought I would see a Phantasm recreation as good as yours.Great story and video.
Personally I really liked the first one. Done up in the way they were in my era . Flared fenders aftermarket sunroof crager ss mags 440 6 pack emblems.
I friggin love that you know the actual cars!! Always bugged me a little when people called the car from the first flick a "Hemi Cuda" haha NICE ride!!
YUP!!! NICE JOB!!! Miss the Head Lamps and the Flared Round Fenders... (to me NOTHING will ever replace the original 'Cuda!!!) But VERY NICE JOB!!!! ;-)))) (And good movie too!) (1 & 2 were the best ones, though I've seen all 5!) Signed: A Phantasm Fan who was lucky enough to see... THE TALL MAN IN PERSON ;-))) (In Montreal, way back, for the premiere of Phantasm IV: Oblivion!)
I've had people argue till they were to the point of pissed that the 1st phantasm Cuda had a 440 6 pack and the second movie said hemicuda on the shaker hood that is not on the production car. AND was not a true Hemi Cuda but a 318 CID factory stock engine. Thank you for proving me correct!!😎😎😎
Your car is absolutely beautiful it is definitely the best of the best I've been a painter for over 45 years and you are right about the single stage paint over base coat ive use dupont all Mt life and in the 80s they had a acrylic enamel called centari and the code was 99A that was the blackest black there ever was and me and my brother worked for the same bodyshop as a team and we put that paint on so many cars I had a 79 Z28 that was black and my brother had a 74 chevy Silverado that we painted 99a and so many people brought there cars to use we were known as the brothers that paint black the best...lol it was all in the sanding and knowing how to polish black the right way. Great car my favorite mopar
Hey man, I'm a comic book maker, trying to learn to draw this specific car for a homage to the Phantasm series. Your video is a God send for this purpose. (it even has the correct tires! Amazing.) Thank you so much.
Hey! That is so cool! If you want me to send you nice images of the car through email just let me know. I’ve got nice angles of it with those tires on and everything. Would love to see the comic when it’s done
Awesome post. Thanks for sharing. The Cuda' in Phantasm started my love for Mopars. Owned several Charger(s) , other Mopars over the years. My retirement goal/objective is either a '71 black Cuda or a '68 black Charger R/T. Probably cost me a fortune, but one can hope and.....save $$ !
This car is so close to a perfect Cuda! You can't tell the difference. Any one who says any different. Surely doesn't know what a perfect car is! Awesome job!
Wow how sinister looking is this car , Lord Vader your car has arrived, That is actually my dream car, i love all mopars but this one is very special to me 😊😊😊
Great car. I completely agree with going for screen accuracy vs Hemi purest. I would have love to seen you go with a movie one clone. Just something about them fender flares giving the cuda a beefy look.
That’s an awesome build. I found the information interesting. I’m a phantasm fan my self, matter of fact I just bought the phantasm collection on blue ray. And for the purist’s. You know the saying, “Haters are going to hate”. This car and the mad max car are the best film builds I have seen. Can you do the john wick mustang next?
Beautiful car Rudy! GREAT JOB! If you ever want to sell Someday in the future Rudy, please let me know. Been wanting one since high school over 40 years ago, when I had a used one. Thank you sir
Outstanding and astounding final product Rudy. Love the video and the story behind the details. Maybe you've already noticed but looks like the movie car was recently upgraded to a Rim-Blow steering wheel for the 2016 movie. Way to go man. Can't wait to see what you do next.
Thank you so much! Yes I noticed that in ravage her, I think he also possibly added air conditioning or a whole new Dash with air-conditioning fence, I never saw those in any of the old footage from years ago. Next time I’m with Don I’m gonna go into more detail with him about that, we’ve done a lot of emailing recently about other stuff maybe I’ll try to figure it out soon. Thanks again I’m glad you like it!
I believe that the fender, and the vin# tags have to be rivetted in, not screwed. If the police see the screws on the tags, they'll assume that the tags were switched, and that the car is stolen. The old" switcheroo".
Never heard of the movie series but love your car. I'm not a resto kind of guy and prefer modified hot rodded cars. I turned 18 in 1974 and this car would have been something a guy with some money would have built in the mid to late '70s. Back then we built what we could get our hands on and didn't care about originality, In fact, a big insult was telling somebody there car was a stocker. Do you know where the movie cars are and who owns them, if they are even still around?
You really in a good job and not only that if I had the skills and the brain power I wouldn't be able to myself bring back or something like that but like I said you did a good job 💪🇺🇸✌️🙋♂️
This is my dream car, too. Respect to you for that replica. Must have cost a lot of money. And your meeting with Angus brrrr. Good luck if you will build next car.
I got to see the car at the 2019 MCACN show. My car was also built as a tribute to the Phantasm cars, but mine is a 70 hemicuda convert clone in N. Calif. Great Job on the car. Since it is a barracuda, I know know why you don't have molding on the back end around the taillights....
Thank you and yes I believe you and I have spoke on Facebook a few times as well. I’ve seen your black convertible in pictures! I think it has a red stripe?
Thanks for the fun & informative video. My Challenger Scat Pack doesn't compare. Haha ..............................................................................................................🏎
The original movie car was traded for a van to an unknown buyer in the early 80's. It is presumed to be at the bottom of a pile of flattened cars at an unknown junkyard, or has been melted for scrap. Long gone.
I'm so sorry its taken me so long to view this video buddy, you have a stunning car and your obsession has paid off big time, she sits so well and I love the how she sits so flat and poker straight from her nose through those beautiful hips and round to her tail, I am so jealous buddy but your attention to detail has worked so well. That honestly is a bottomless black finish and fantastic touch with the cast autographs on the glove box. I believe you spent more time doing this than the origional props department did on the car they used in the movie. I understand now why you want the trans am to drive about in, you need to keep this for special occasions. Seriously well done buddy 👏
Fantastic! That hood rule is ridiculous. Least they can do is allow them locked for the night, but require opening by 8 am the next day, or your disqualified. How bout suspension, look like you jacked the rear up from OEM, did the movie car have air shocks?
Amazing detail you have done. I'm restoring a 72 Challenger. Thanks for making a great detailed video. Very inspirational. Side note. At 43:38 it looks like a wood steering wheel. Is it just the reflection? Again, Amazing job!!!
OMG! can I have this?! Being a woman, my dad brought me up on all theses beauties! Always wanted one of these, but there’s nothing like a older model car, the motors, that you can climb right in and fix something easily, without all the crappy computerized crap these days! I love a Cuda!
From the second movie of The phantasm 2 The second movie of fat car of the 1971 barracuda but I like that car just fine I would like to build a model Cara facts and paint it black
at the end of the video ( just after the hood emblem holes in the hood are shown ) when you see inside the car "there's a wood grain steering wheel" he's holding - was that changed with the B.F. Goodrich tires ?
Hey there, yes, Don ended up putting a nicer Cuda’ wheel in the car before the filming of the fifth movie. I think it’s called a “Tuff Wheel”. The old wheel was like the standard Barracuda steering wheel and that’s what I went with since it was in the second film like that. I think he may also have added air conditioning to the car
@@RudysWorldOfficial good to know ... that is one beautiful automobile even if it wasn't a movie , i'd have one just like it , not having the shaker hood is my favorite part ( no need to advertise the elephant in the room ) ha ha
Hey there, ECS to my knowledge makes the best aftermarket glass available. When the shop does a restoration that’s the brand they usually buy, fits very well and it all comes in a nice big wooden crate. They make all kinds of really cool restoration parts and decals and stickers for under the hood but they also supply a lot of glass to people
@@RudysWorldOfficial thank you for the info. I bought the vin sticker for the door from ecs, I know their glass is expensive. Your cuda looks beautiful. After watching your video and you mentioned about the pin stripe on the car I had to break out the dvd to see for myself. As many times I have watched Phantasm 2 I had never noticed the pinstripe before.
