I was lucky enough to have worked at Chrysler engineering during this time period. We had a blast developing these cars. At that time they were just cars to us we had no idea they would become high dollar collector items. It was a great time in the American auto industry.

If you want to go faster, remember that Chrysler Corporation also makes cars for the law.". The Holy Grail, indeed.

Growing up in in late 1950-1960’s Spartanburg, SC- we had Bud Moore’s Garage, Cotton Owen’s Garage, several others that were big in early NASCAR racing, we saw Superbirds, 427 Chevys, 429 Fords- all the time around town. Should have bought them ALL and tucked them away when they hit the used car lots. Lenny Senn had the first ‘64 GTO in town, had it immediately balanced and blueprinted and hit the Greer Dragstrip, where he took home all the trophies. Fun times!!

I also owned a A12 automatic super bee car, was the second owner around 2002 and also owned a 67 Hemi GTX in the late 90's. Of all those cars the 440 6- pack cars ruled and were somewhat easier to maintain.

@JAAB9296 2 месяца назад
@@basshead. First, your comment is not that simple there are many factors to consider however, a 426 may rev a few hundred RPMs that is not enough to outrun a 6-pack car. 6-pack (440) will kill any Hemi out of the hole however on the big end the Hemi will come close to outrunning the 6-pack. As a matter of fact, if they were to race 1350/60 feet instead of the 1320 the hemi would win. Keep in mind that both cars were set-up exactly the same.

This was a great episode. Living in Az. I've been to a number of the Barrett-Jackson collector car auctions and the array of vehicles available for sale is off the charts. It was very cool to see Craig Jackson with his '70 Hemi 'Cuda and Jay talking cars and then driving this rare and iconic car whose value is likely off the charts. I drove a '74 Barracuda off the dealer's lot 50 years ago and still have the car. Having been garage kept and driven just on weekends the past 35 years, it looks almost like the day it was made. Though the 'big blocks' were not available by this last year of their production, the rebuilt 360 with a few speed goodies added a few years ago makes for a nice cruiser with the windows down and some oldies playing on the under-dash 8-Track player. Yea, Like Craig said, the doors make a funny sound and there are some little rattles and squeaks...maybe that's the charm of the old cars. What's crazy about these old Mopars is that I can almost never stop at a light without someone rolling their window down to comment about the car, or to ask me what year it is etc. Mostly, I'm just very happy to see that Jay has highlighted cars like this Hemi on his show with car people like Craig Jackson. Enjoyed it.

@@stephenholland5930 Thank you for the note. What's crazy is that the car cost $3,460 out the door, including the tax, license plates and a full tank of gas. The only option from the dealer was the 8-Track player for $40.00. My wife and I traded in an old VW Bug plus $300 cash, so our loan was $2,250 for 3 years and a payment of I think $77.00/Mo. I remember we were driving home that night with the car and she said to me; "How are we going to pay that?"'...Lol. The Chrysler/Plymouth dealer was a friend of my father's. All these years later, the son of the now deceased dealer, calls me two or three times a year to remind me that if I ever sell the car he wants the first right of refusal to buy it. He's been looking for a car that his late father sold while owning the very first of his several dealerships in the NYC suburbs back in the day. Thanks again, and take care.

I had a 70 cuda ralley red. 4 speed 383 magnum in 1973 for $2500. I know it wasn't as rare as this. I traded my 67 RS Camaro for it. But I sure wish I had them still. Dad and Mom bought a 70 cuda and it had the 440 six pack. I was 15 and mom let me drive it once lol (I only had a drivers premit) I was banded from driving again.

@@Moses1973 no just a brute car problem. the thing was a beast. Edelbrock . holly 4 barrel. dual pt distributer. the "air filter" was 1/4" piece of foam. headers. glass packs that lasted a week with 4" side pipes that spit fire. traction bars. hurst 4 speed. got it that way in '71. a few yrs later i had fun replacing the paper thin headers in my apt parking lot with stock manifolds cussing and kicking with the gf trying to get home from UT Austin to Dallas for Thanksgiving! a few yrs later traded it in for a burnt orange LM Capri. loved that lil spit fire V^! neither car had a/c. who needs that in Tex???

Needs to turn those torsion bar bolts in a few threads, it's riding too low in front and that detracts from it a bit.

That's the thing about those old Mopars. Even new they didn't handle that great or even stop that well. I had a 1971 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus I bought two years old right out of high school and with the polyglas tires it handled terrible along with the factory disc brakes. I traded it in on a brand new 1975 Camaro and there was a world of difference with better brakes and radial tires.

This car/body style made me fall in love with cars/driving. I had to wait a few years to get my 1973 Challenger, 340. I was so disappointed to find out that emission controls etc. had reduced my dream car to little better than a ‘grocery getter’. Compression had been reduced from the ground pounding 11 to 1 to 8.5 to 1. It still sounded great but the thrill I was expecting was gone.

Nearly ends with it too 24:17. Ah the old stock not very likely to be flat exhaust manifolds. One of the good reasons to go right to headers on day one. At least those flowed better and would bend enough to seal if the mating surface wasn’t perfect. Which it wasn’t.

Actually the auction have some great deals. What you see on tv is the crazy things that of course people fight over and people with money and egos that hate losing of course go crazy. But what you don’t see on tv are the great classics that go for great prices or under what they should.
