Yes it's done very very sharp. And with the cans shaking longer than you should does help. And the weather there helps with transitions. If it were 24/7 hot days. That spray will be halfway dry as soon as it hits the metal. So yeah Definitely a clean job.

Although it's based on a 59, the tailights look to be from an original German 1957's. I had a real steel 57 in High School in 1974. The prevoius owner put a S-90 motor in int, (1600/103 hp; Solex P11-4 and a Speedster Transmission, (Lower gears-BBAB). Of course I am a purest, but I will only comment on the exhaust,.I like the look but is sounds like a VW, try a German Exhaust; I put a stock one on mine and it performed and sounded like a Porsche, it had a Truhaft quiet power one which was popular at the time). If you got the money the European Sport exhaust would probably perform and sound better.

There is a shop, I think in New Zealand, that created a Ferrari 250 gto replica, with body panel jigs and the ability to produce more. The intent was to allow someone that owned a 250 gto, the ability to drive one, without touching the one that they own. Ferrari sued in international court and apparently won, stopping him from making anymore. Ferrari says they own the 250 gto "likeness", that the appearance is iconic, and that copying it is a violation of their rights. I believe this was also done by the by the creator of the "Elanor" mustang. I think it is ridiculos and I would like to see more of these replicas.

Really nice replica, but 70k? There's a completely (bare metal) restored 356 Coupe currently for sale on Pistonheads for £89,000. Not sure I'd have grafted a sunroof into a motorsport-themed 356 but if the owner's happy that's all that matters.

@chadderton No to the sunroof as well! Very nice outcome for a replica project. Now, if the exhaust note could be modified to sound a lot less like a VW, it would greatly improve the overall experience! Couldn't help but noticing the owner's Gulf Racing "trainers"!

What I'd like to know is what transmission do you have in it (ratios and stuff) and how does it drive? I've owned seven 356's and a 914-6 that I raced for a few years. There is nothing that drives like a late 356 and the 912. The sense of ownership of the driving experience is like nothing else and I've driven many cars. Have you preserved that experience in this build?

Yes, except they made a few in ‘66 only for the German Police. Seinfeld has one, and featured it on one of the episodes of “Comedians in Cars getting Coffee”.

The car was in the hands of another mechanic who ripped the owner off to say the least before it was handed to my dad who had to strip it back and rebuild the whole car due to poor craftsmanship . That’s where a lot of the money was lost

I'd say that your Porsche knowledge hasn't gone up at all since this isn't actually a Porsche, however it is an exceptionally cool car which I would love to own as well! I wasn't aware that you could buy replica coupe bodies, all that I have ever seen over the years have been fibreglass convertible/Speedster bodies. Now where can I find a cheap Beetle chassis around here? 🤔😎

Does it make you laugh when someone puts Cobra badges on a Cobra replica? How about a continuation Cobra? Or a fiberglassed body paneled Ford coupe? or truck? Or any other of the other numerous cars built with reproduction panels? It's his car he can dow what he wants. I was involved with Porsche replicas for more than 10 years and I never met one person who tried to pass of their reproduction as a real one.

When you build a reproduction you register using a builder's registration process. they usually ask what year chassis and what the car represents. In this case it's a '73 chassis and it represents a Porsche 356.

What make this an outlaw? "Loads of little things 😂 Im sorry its a beautiful car but almost none of that is a 356. The builder did an absolutely fantastic job on this replica and im sure theres a few 356 bits on it. Honestly i love it but call a spade a Spade. Ive driven one of these and the fibreglass bodys alway detract from the drive because of how light it is. One of the most beautiful dhapes and my respect to the builder. 💯

No the price tag isn’t accurate in terms of how much it would actually cost to build the car . The owner is factoring in the fact that before it was handed to my dad , it was in the hands of another mechanic who ripped the owner off and built the car poorly . Therefore he had lost a lot of money on the car already before it was passed to my dad who then had to strip it all back and rebuild it properly hence the mighty cost of the build . Also factoring in the original Porsche parts which are quite expensive too .

Yes, the car market has lost its mind. When I was young these 356s were basically junk cars that may have went for $1500 max. The Camaro I bought for 1700 is now $50,000. Yep, the car market has lost its mind.

Neat car but a little cheeky that you take half the video to fully explain this is a fiberglass replica body on a VW pan. Nothing wrong with it being a nice replica, but being a little less than forthcoming about the fact that it is in fact "not at all a 356" and that the body, chassis, engine, gearbox, and suspension are NOT Porsche parts will put off some folks when you don't make that clear.

This video was completely spontaneous. I had no intention on filming this car on the day. I was in fact filming a yellow 997. When I finished on the 997 Chris asked if I wanted to do a feature on his car. I quickly set up. Had no script or no clue what to ask. We just freestyled it. I knew nothing about the 356 until that day.

While it's a cool project, it bugs me when lots of money and effort are spent on silly things, likely from lack of research. A huge example is this little triangle doors just under the quarter windows. Those were put on the 550A because the rear shell doesn't flip up to access the engine, so you can pop the little triangle doors open and do some quick work on the carbs or engine at the the track with it being a mid-engine. Putting those on a rear engine 356 is just dumb, as it's a trap door to nowhere?

It allows access to the carburetors. The engine bay is seriously tight because of how far outward the carbs are set. You can't access the idle jets. He added the carb doors so he could more easily access the idle jets. Emory puts them on a lot of his cars and this car is built to emulate an Emory outlaw. It bugs me when people with no knowledge about something come on a social media website to complain about things they of which they have no knowledge.

@@robertm1692, ummm, WHAT??? The carbs are completely accessible. That's absolutely ridiculous. In a 550A, and some models like the RSK, absolutely because they're MID-ENGINE! Please explain how you reach the carbs that are 2 feet towards the rear from that trap door?

I had a replica. And the carb jets on a set of Webbers, while accessible, are very difficult to get to since the idle jets are on the outside edge of the carburetor. They make an intake that allows you to turn them 180* so the idle jet is on the inside but those are not very popular. And the whole point of this car was to emulate a very particular Rod Emory Special. And on that build, and numerous other builds, Rod has put those carburetor doors on his cars. Are you saying Rod Emory is dumb? I'm sure he knows more about building and modifying 356's than just about anyone left on the planet. When you put a Flat 6, even if it has had two cylinders removed, in the engine bay of a 356 it takes up a lot of space.

Six figures. Might as well have bought a real one? Seems like much more of the VW pan was used than just the center tube. Seems like whole platform was used including suspension unless it was changed after the picture. Why source real 356 parts of the car is fake? I would have saved my money and just used fake parts. Not a big fan of fake Porsches. The only fiberglass kit car I like is the Meyers Manx. It’s not a replica it’s an OG design but still uses a VW pan and even that has to be shortened to fit. A young fellow in the states has bought the company and is now reproducing them again. Chip Foose built two for SEMA this year.
