The deceptive part about this song is as catchy and badass as it is, it's also a completely true song. A woman named Andrea Yates drowned her 5 kids because she believed they were possessed by the devil. The Crusade, the album this song was on, is a loose concept album about social injustices. Very moving stuff. The album after it, Shogun, is considered their technical and vocal masterpiece. It's also a loose concept album where the themes revolve mostly around Japanese samurai culture, Greek mythology, and Christianity. That entire album is worth a listen, but I feel the song on it that would be the most interesting is the opening track Kirisute Gomen [Key-ree stay goh-men], which fans usually consider to be their best opening track.

I must warn you, the lead singer (Matt Heafy) has definitely evolved his vocal style over the years. This was his James Hetfield era, haha. But nevertheless, Trivium is one of my favorite metal bands of the new millennium! I did that exact thing when it came out. I listened to it all the way through, then went back and marathoned through all their albums. There’s a clear maturation in each album

I love this album. It got a lot of shit for the similarity to Metallica, bus as a huge fan of that band, and as much as I adore their modern resurgence, this record came out at a time when Metallica were in the pits, so this was the closest we could get at the time.

Its pretty unique that you did this song, not a whole lot of reactions out there to this one, i do have to say though this is probably one of their weaker songs, and this is coming from a MASSIVE Trivium fanboy, theyve been my favorite band since 06. They are an amazing band and have a expansive catalog of songs worth checking out: Like Light To Flies, Villainy Thrives, Caustic are the Tides That Bind, Throes of Perdition, Beyond Oblivion, What Dead Men Say...pretty much whatever they touch is great. Their cover of Metallica’s Master of Puppets and Iron Maiden’s Iron Maiden are worth checking out as well.
Do “Sickness Unto You” next! I’ve been a fan of them since their first album. They have evolved like no other. So yeah, please do that one next! You won’t regret it!
Matt Heafy (the vocalist and rhythm guitarist) was 18 years old when trivium dropped their 3rd album, The Crusade, which is in the UK they said one of the worst band in the world because in their last album, ascendacy, was their best album back then but yeah this is all matt's ideas to create a classic thrash metal album and mix with some modern stuffs ..
Yes Matt Heafy is a huge Metallica fan, so much so that they got a lot of flack when this album came out for trying to sound like Metallica. Personally, I love it so I don’t understand the hate. But Matt Heafy is an incredible guitarist and vocalist and he’s without question the nicest guy in metal. He’s just got a genuine and down to earth personality
This was from an album that turned them from the next bit thing in metal to one of the most hated bands. Honestly the whole Crusade album was damn good aside from a few poor vocal melody choices and some heavy handed lyrics.
