In the Seattle area, we don't have quite the same ice storm problem as say Portland, but one of my friends fell on black ice in the parking lot of her apartment complex, and was knocked out for almost half an hour. That fall gave her brain trauma, and now she suffers from frequent migraines, dizziness, vision, & balance issues. As a result, it's very difficult for her to hold down a job, or do common things like drive long distances (more than half an hour). Ever since her accident (and she was very lucky that a neighbor found her & called 911), I've been paranoid about icy conditions for myself & my friends. So I thank you deeply for sharing this shoe hack with so many people. I guarantee you're going to save several lives with this. Thank you!

"Does it snow in Holland" lol :D Dude, if you look on a map you find that Holland is on the same latitude as the Canadian state of Newfoundland... They skate on the canals in the winter. I agree that Nokian Hakkapelita are good winter tires. Nokian comes from the Finnish town Nokia where also the mobile phone company with the same name started. Nokian also makes very good rubber boots. The name of the tires comes from “Hakkapeliter” who where Finnish cavalry regiments in the Swedish army during the 30 years war (1618-1648). The word derives from their battle cry, “Hakkaa päälle pohjan pojka!” meaning “ Keep slashing, sons of the north!”.
@MrWiggenhammer
@MrWiggenhammer 4 года назад
Am dutch, can confirm... we haven't had a lot ofice and snow for long in ages. Skating on the canals hasn't happened for a long time. We get weather from the gulfstream. Also nearly nobody wears wooden shoes anymore. We do have iron grips we slip over our normal shoes the few days a year we get snow or ice.

Or you can buy Yak-Trax for $20. They’re like snow chains for boots. They stretch on so you can wear them from your truck to your house then slip them off and that’s it. You don’t have to put screws into your boots. I’ve been wearing since the year they came out and they still work perfectly.

I work at a double hockey rink in the Northwest Chicago suburbs. We use these rubber net type things that loop over your boots and have studs on them. Theyre a life saver (literally) when we walk on the ice to clean the glass or the boards. Our Zambonis also have carbide studded tires. You really have to goose it to get them to break loose.

I was going to suggest the same thing, I keep some in my car at work for the rare occasions we get ice storms. I just slip them over my boots and off you go, no damage to the boots either. The ones I have are like a nylon net with metal clips or whatever they are called that help bite into the ice. They work really well.

If you're gonna switch to proselytizing at the end of your video, you are going to come off as disingenuous. Many viewers have had negative experiences with this religion and may have watched something else had they known. I didn't downvote but definitely stopped watching when the preaching started. Great hack! but people should pay attention to screw length vs sole thickness, you don't want to drill a hole right through the bottom of your shoe and have leaky boots with sharp screws stabbing your feet. Also add some superglue to the screw thread right before screwing it in, and it may stay in there for several more seasons.

@limerickman8512
@limerickman8512 6 лет назад
You actually fall better without your hands to break your fall. You need to fall like a drunk flat on ice, as the drunks have poor reflexes and they have far less injuries or less pronounce injuries. By putting out your arms and hands you hurt them and you ends up bending your body and you fall harder fall on less surface. It is the head that you need to protect with a flat fall. A good helmet you will need for ice walking.
@limerickman8512
@limerickman8512 6 лет назад
Dru Johnson The problem with having hands out is that they are not going to hit the ground at the same time as the body and the first impact site takes the brunt and part of the arm that not able to deflect in time on a fast fall gets injured. So many ice injuries thst I have seen is people so or and they holds their hands out. Yet on the same icy surfaces, I see drunks fall and the morning after they ate fine with minor bruises. Since working in both farms over 20-30 years ago in ice (winter - We had slot of ice especially clear ice - most dangerous) and cold storage/wet food factory, where there is ice build up in the morning at chillers. I learnt to fall as a drunk (flat) and I am always fine with minor bruises that does not stop me working. But my new work colleges (at the time) were always getting badly injured (going to hostipal with casts), because they kept their hands holding onto things or using the hands/arm to break their fast icy fall.

I am a minister so Sunday’s are not always a sabbath rest. Do not get me wrong I relish the opportunity to be with fellow believers. My ministry became fruitful when I make myself take separate sabbath. I am more rested have more energy and accomplish more during the week. Even if you are not religious this is a healthy life principle. Which is why God gives it to us. Thanks Cody for the reminder!

Nope, they are called muck boots here. Wellies have a different sole and upper.

Gumboots! We call them gumboots in New Zealand. They have a gumboot throwing contest, there's a song about gumboots. They're kind of a big thing in New Zealand! We don't call them "Hateful Muck Boots"! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2MeCLILELNc.html

I remember living up in Moscow, ID in '96 when I was in college. There was such an ice storm in the PNW that it knocked out power to hundreds of thousands of homes and devastated the forests and trees in the cities throughout OR, WA, ID and parts of MT... Crazy times!

I wear Mucks and have for years. Their size 8 1/2 is too tight on my toes and a size 9 is a tad too big. I was talking to a Muck rep and he said to put another insole in the boots(2 total) and it should correct the "flopping". Once I started doing that, I have not had a complaint since. Their insoles are pretty thin, so I buy an insole with arch support and stick it in the Mucks on top of their insole. Works great.

Video was ok, but I just really loved the ending above the tree line. Half way threw the video I got bored and started skipping but then it got to the tree line and since I’m from Hawaii I thought it was different and pretty so I started watching again then I heard you mention Jesus so I started paying closer attention and I really loved the story and it makes me feel more reenforced to listen to God’s word when showing him to others who are close off or frustrated to God

BFG KM2 tires were made for snow and ice also. My wife and I run them all year and we never have issues with them on our Jeeps during winter.

I do this to an old pair of trail running shoes for winter running. I run down steep icy trails and don't give it a second thought. Depending on the sole, I sometimes take off a bit of the screw tip with a dremmel tool so that they dont poke through. I might loose 2 or 3 screws per shoe per winter. This really works and the tech or machine screws are inexpensive compared to the products sold to slip over your shoe.

One of the first things we'd always tell the new teachers in Alaska was to make sure they ordered a set of Yaktrax or Stabilicers. They stretch over your shoes or boots to do this same thing, and they worked great. The second time I broke Yaktrax I sprung for the more expensive stabilicers, and they've lasted for years.
