Just a suggestion, when you stud a snowmobile track(similar studs) you don't want the scratch pattern in a row, so its best to offset the studs by an inch or so so the aren't in a line down the track. That way each stud is biting into a fresh area of ice or snow. Really enjoy you channel.

You didn’t show what it looks like with all the pins in. I’m going to give constructive criticism. You have started not showing completing videos. It’s like watching a movie and then it turns off 10mins before the end. Some examples are, not seeing the gas tank get painted, not seeing your sons reaction to the car upgrades and now not seeing all the pins in. I think it would be more interesting to see the videos completed. I know I might get blocked for saying this. But I enjoy your content and then I feel let down at the end. Sorry if you take this badly. It’s just my opinion.

About the studs and Captain Obvious. A friend of mine, in Montana, studded a couple of pieces of power equipment last year. To prevent gouging on his shop floor he bought a couple of those heavy rubber mats like they use in stables to help traction with horses shoes. It worked like a dream in his shop. In summer he simply hung the mats on the wall near the door. Just a thought from a friend. God bless you brother.

The "Do I spent $250 and 10 hours of labor on this thing or do I just spend the $500 and be done with it?" decision has to be one of the most agonizing decisions a Professional Homeowner ever has to face
@kevinreilly4990
@kevinreilly4990 2 года назад
I used to agonize over these types of decisions, but anymore if it is at all close and I can use my time with family or in another productive way, I offload whatever work I can. I spent to many hours on the road working for others, then coming home and working on my own projects to the neglect of family. I realized that my time had a value not only to employers, or customers, but also to myself and my family.

I have first had experience with these grip studs in our John Deere 333 track skid loader. The machine is used for power line right of way construction in New England. Like Cody said, they will gouge the concrete and asphalt. Most modern skid loaders that use an "iso" pattern joystick control tend to drag one of the tracks while the other track rotates in order to turn the machine. And because of this, our machine has lost approximately 80% of the studs after one season. We have also found that they don't help much in situation where the surface is uneven and the machine can't scrape the snow cleanly. Even if there is 1/4" of snow left on the ground, the studs no longer made contact with the ground and were basically useless. I believe that using a longer stud would only cause more pull outs. They probably would work great on very smooth asphalt parking lots of concrete.

I love hearing the cuckoo clock in the background. Just a suggestion, use your 12" speed square, line it up on the outter edge of the track, with a white market draw a 45° line across the track, slide the square up 12" and repeat, put your studs in every other track pad. This will give you a chevron pattern, much better then inline.

In our organisation the montain rescue hast the whole winter snowtracks on there landrovers. To protect the washbox we have some mats on the ground. This system works now for years and is pretty cheap too.

What will happen in the summer when you take out the studs, go in gravel and stones get in the holes and work their way in the rubber or better yet in wet conditions when water acts as a lubricant for rocks to cut the rubber easier. I would have kept them without studs and just been more careful operating. Or maybe find and old set of tracks and keep those studded for the winter

Hey Cody. Hope you and your family are doing well. I have a possible suggestion to dealing with the thick heavy snow. I went to college up in the mountains were we were always hovering around the 32degree mark so we had thick wet snow and ice storms that would drop 1"of ice after snowing 12". And they used the hydro power brooms on their bobcats to clear all of the sidewalks/mega walkways. Me being curious I talked to one of the snow crew guys. He told me that if he runs the broom at full rpm it will shoot snow 20-25' at the typical "snow blower arc" and take it down to bare concrete. Since you no longer have a gravel driveway I figured it might be something to look into. Love all of the content for years. You and your family are always in my prayers. Thank you for everything you do! God bless.

The most tedious job I ever did, was to install steel cleats on my old 73 snowmobile track. The cleat kit came with two bags of rivets, each of which, I had to put in by hand, after drilling out hundreds of rivets to start with. Took me two days of hand cramping work. I said never again, after that was over with.

Hey Cody, just bought a granfors bruks outdoor axe, thoughts and what else should I get for a homeowner/shtf, keep in the vehicle axe? I was thinking about either the small forest axe or the American felling axe so I can have something bigger as well.

Of course you’ll be careful on you driveway and garage floor. Amazing how those little pins can grip the ground so well. Looking forward seeing them in action. Cheers 🦘🇦🇺

Hope your weather change is friendlier than our was in Colorado. We didn't have snow (per usual this year) but the winds were that of a category 1 or 2 hurricane. Our neighbors camper blew over. Tree branches everywhere.

It sure looks like an Ochsenkopf. I have one of their hookaroons, it's wonderful.
