For me, Robben Ford is undoubtedly the best guitarist in the world, with an inventiveness without equal. He always surprises me with his creativity and his extreme musicality.
For almost twenty years now I have been listening to Robben and during this long time there is no show or album of his that I do not enjoy. He is one of my guitar heroes of all time! Getting older (as all of us are), but delivering strong!
Don't even mention Joe Bonamassa in the same sentence as Robben. You're comparing the KING of phrasing with the KING of playing with NO personality or style of his own. It's really "neat-o" that Joe can sound like anyone. Too bad he doesn't know how to sound like Joe Bonamassa. All these morons on RU-vid frothing over Joe, as if Hendrix, Rhoads and Moore rose from the grave need to get a clue and a Music History lesson.
+1970borntorun go easy on JB, he always gives credit and shows appreciation for other players. He also never put himself above others. That said, his fan base is loyal and rabid. One thing that can be said about JB that any pro guitarist would agree with....he is a master of marketing and he is making the money to prove it.
Moore Green And you know, to be fair I get and appreciate that he's been a dedicated Blues/Rock fan. I love that he appreciates his fans. I'll also say that he is a very good guitarist from a technical standpoint. The 1000 lb elephant in the room is that he doesn't have a personality of his own. It's that simple. If you like him, great, but for myself and a growing number of music fans, his playing is as generic as vanilla ice cream from a Nebraska Walmart.
1970borntorun I understand your sentiment, the best compliment I have ever gotten is to have friends I know be able to find me at huge guitar shows, from across the building just by hearing my playing. JoeB may still be finding "his" sound but he is a HUGE ambassador for the record buying public in introducing pure guitar to the masses. That's not s bad thing. SRV did it, EJ to a lesser degree Etc. Personally I like a guitar gig that attracts women too, Vai does not do that if you know what I mean...
I think your comment regarding the roles of the drums and bass is spot on. I have been drumming for 40 years, and the more I learn and listen, the simpler and more supportive of the other players my drumming has become. I like that role.
Great boots Robben. You played on my 24th birthday in Collingwood,Melbourne Australia sometime in the early nineties. A great night just as your Cream tour was recently.
I've always loved his touch and approach. And to quench any immature comments on "Who's best", it's all in the ear as a listener. Might as well argue about vegetables.
the thing is none of these amps are mic up just the sound of the camcorder mic..you have to experience this live, and Man is it awesome and fun ,jeff mcelain is the nicest guy you will ever meet and one of the best Guitar teachers you could ever sit under,,and Robben Ford enough said..the best of the best!! and a real funny guy great personality..and for the Bass player he is also a college professor he teaches music just a great person.they all have achieved Greatness in personal character as well as musicians . As for all the weird comments ..i am really surprised..i did last years Guitar camp , Wow! it was awesome! people fly in from all around the world ,germany , italy, canada,,it was one of the best experiences of my life..so : to all you arm chair ::: Ney Sayers I Say "HUH!" REALLY WEIRD COMMENTS for such a class act!!
Jeff and Robben are very respectful of each other, and there will be no guitar slinging today. Ford is a giant of guitar player, as far as I'm concerned one of the top 10 all time great players. McErlain had some very tasty moves as well, I wouldn't want to have to play on stage with either. Thanks for the great cops. I wish some one would just screw up for once.
Robben Ford é um gênio, um mestre em timbre, um compositor fabuloso, guitarrista fantástico e muito autêntico, não se sente o tempo passar quando se para para escutar essa música incrível, sempre bis bis bis. Um salve a Robben Ford!
must be crazy to some people that robben ford is my actual favourite blues players and that i consider him one of the best ones. He is very underrated, but that doesnt matters to him, look at this groove in 2015...tight AF.
Francisco Lerche seen him live almost 20 time's, an incredible blue's guy who can switch to jazz at will ,Robben has blessed everyone from Miles Davis and Joni Mitchell to Charlie Musslewhite and Jimmy Witherspoon to even commercial artists like Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald, I still favor the Blue Line music but love the rest, I was lucky enough to be friends with the only taper at the Greg Allman Chicago visit year's ago with RB of course and still have that in rotation ,got to talk to him twice, he's so down to earth it was like talking to an old friend .
Wow frank, thanks for sharing that story. I would love to see him live, but I was unaware of him when he came some years ago to my country, Argentina. you´re very lucky, you´ve seen him so many times and also met him personally!, that would be kind of a dream for me. Blue line music is georgeous I agree!!! I love the "authorized bootlegs" recording. As a musician myself he is one of my biggest Influences without a doubt and lately I´ve been listening to him speak and he´s an inspiration as a human being to me too, Like you said hes very down to earth. Greeting from argentina! and pardon the french haha
@@franciscolerche5113 Good to hear back, I was lucky enough to see the Authorized Bootleg at a great venue, Buddy Guy's Legends in Chicago Illinois, The Tiger Walk tour was pretty incredible too but than again I couldn't think of a Ford show I didn't love, maybe some more than others, I'm not on Facebook for a variety of reasons but I am on Pinterest and have a couple of guitar sections you might enjoy, you are sure welcomed to check them out, It's under my full name so I'll leave it out here for you but will take it down after you've found it, I've made some enemies unfortunately because I'm an outspoken critic of our Napoleon Velveeta and hope you're not offended by that ,also in my Guitarist Extraordinaire section there's a nice little Ford history piece, if I missed any guitar players feel free to let me know I'll add them, in fact I'd appreciate your input.
Check out young Mr. Robben Ford playing with Jimmy Witherspoon (on youtube finally) and receivcing standing ovations, he is playing the heck out of his guitar, would rank this even with the legendary Allmann Brothers e.g Stormy Monday live at Fillmore East. Robben is on fire there!. Saw Mr Ford him the first time in 1972 here in Germany and looking forward to seeing him with HR-Bigband on March 24.
@@arthurblackhistoric of course i used to over-play and have bad time. But that was when I was a weeee lad. Now, time is solid, tastiness is key. So.... i don't even play drums either and my intuition on building a solo section is better than this guy. Just wish he would've paid attention to the guitarist. You can tell the guitarist was wanting more out of it, but the drummer just completely missed the queues.
Man, Robben sounds awesome. His style of Blues is Jazzier than the typical Blues played by many. This is why I like it, because it is smoother and laid back type of Blues. Don't get me wrong I love me some down and dirty Blues but Robben's style is very good too. Also that Telecaster sounds so good. Robben sounds great though any guitar he plays but this Telecaster is sweet.
+Mensch Meier I'm pretty sure he's referring to the fact that these amps can be $40.000-80.000. I would be very carefull about liquids around my amp, especialy one as valuable as this. Not sure what this has to do with being into music...
I always used a quad box with a tube head, and if there's people dancing around like in a bar, its just the right height to put your drink on, I used to freak out when people would do that!!
seen him in Cardiff last night very impressed but seemed like he was in a rush to leave life on the road I guess the gig lasted 1 and a half hours at the most
I played in a three piece for 10 years with lots of gigs and always good comments, that drumming in my opinion is perfect and the bass player has to be right in the groove with the kick drum, it taught me as singer lead guitarist to sing and fill out the space with my lead and rhythm playing combined although I shied away from self indulgent long solos except songs like La Grange or smoke on the water where the audience sort of liked to hear those solos note for note. I also found plexi head with quad box pushed a lot of air and filled most rooms nicely, didnt need to be loud either. Hardest part for me playing professionally was other band members demands and personality clashes and I got really disillusioned and gave up playing completely. Robben Ford really nice player.
Jeff my friend!! What a great surprise to see you up there with Robben! You have such a great feel and touch. I think you guys blended together so well. Makes me smile to see you doing what you do and loving it. Keep up the tremendous work sir!! Thank you Robben and everyone playing in this! The subtleties are astounding. Jer
The line between pure admiration, and the frustration of ones own abilities is razor thin.. I'm gonna cut all the strings off, tear the fretboard down I'm gonna cut all the strings off Smash the guitar to the ground Been trying now for ages, just can get that sound Just kiddin' ;-)
Best part about this is the comments ...they run the gamut from stellar to stink to stop singing ....one guy even complains about the "blouse"....lmao ...his wife does dress him funny. But honestly he is a great taste player no question about it
Ford is a great artist, a great personality and a gentleman. That said, he needs a lyricist, ( I gladly volunteer), and an arranger.(Not me). His affection for the Diminished scale has become an affliction. Miles had lot of ideas. Some he drove into the ground. Ford needs a nice introverted kid from The Bronx with a a thorough background in theory. Let the kid arrange one album.
I play git/bass and there is place for bass solos...but...what I think kills them is that the entire band just stops playing as if the bassist can't play over changes. No one stops when anyone else solos, except for drum solos but that' s a different story.
