This isn't just detailing, it's the preservation of history. It takes an owner who really cares about what he has to go for something like this, and professionals who take their job seriously and have the skills to make it happen. To almost anyone else that could have been nothing more than a beat-up old car. But to these guys, it was a gem that deserved restoration. Great job all around.
You've done a wonderful job here. I think he was almost in tears of joy. I have a 1992, 190E. 2.0 Auto. I absolutely love it. I know it sounds like a dumb thing to say... But it's a very 'carry' looking car. It's in such good condition. It's like stepping back in time. Needless to say I drive very carefully in it, and treaure it. When you sit in the driver seat, you can't hold back smiling.
That's exactly what I just did to my 17 year old Suzuki Wagon R+. It was similarly pink a and dreadfully dull when I bought it. It took me three weekends working all day and now it's beautiful, shiny, red like blood and looks fantastic. Learnt everything on YT.
@Spud Chuffington jones now all I have is Before-During-After photos. Impressive though, today cleaned wheels off rust, black Matt resprayed, installed new bottom grill mesh and resprayed all surrounding space black. For some reason original design had something in mind with point lights but kind of abandoned the idea leaving plastic moulding only. If knew how great it will turn out I would video every step. But I never expected so much can be done with it. In and out really, because when I first sat inside I was stuck to dirt, grime and dog hair :)
@@trumpameri1638 the W201 was the cheap version. A W140 is better quality than W124. The W201 become the C klasse when the W202 come. The W124 becom a E klasse when it was replaced with the W210 and the W140 is a S class. So no wonder that the quality was a little higher. But the feeling ind a W201 and W124 is magic. It doesn't matter that they have there faults because the just makes feel better than the first time you had sex.
@@ketillundsrensen6167 i still remember what one taxi driver told me in 1994 ... 190 is worst car what Mercedes give me to drive .... but 123 and especially 124 was legendary model... 124 people still driving normally in 3rd country same like legendary Golf 2...
@@ketillundsrensen6167 BMW 2002 is also nice looking car for restauration.... it's very nice when u see today simple car what people make 40 years ago...
It moves me to tears, although it seems silly, this car, for me, has a very great emotional value, from a wonderful era that no longer exists, I want to congratulate you, you did a job, great..
Those cars were built to a standard. Now theyre built to a budget.. in short, Benz doesnt make money on second hand car sales, so it only matters that the car lasts the warranty
@@matteightytwo They do make money on used cars. As a matter of fact they make most of their sales money on CPOs. They push leasing when new because they get the car back after the lease and now they have the chance to either sell it as a CPO or wholesale it. Either way they make money twice on the car.
james James yes that’s right. But even in the ‘80’s dealers didn’t know everything and cars were much simpler then. I bought a new Golf GTI in 1982 and it had a small computer called “MFA - Multi Functions Anzeige”. I read a lot of German car magazines then and it whas explained in “Auto, Motor und Sport”. I had to explain to the VW dealer how it worked. 😄
@@gromit3315 I KNOW EXACTLY WHERE YOU ARE COMING FROM. I HAVE SEEN THE SAME WITH BMW. SIMILAR STORY TO YOURS, GERMANS ARE BECOMING TOO SMART FOR OUR OWN GOOD.
Mercs of this era have a solid n planted feel so unique to them. Built to last. Was also light years ahead of competition when they first came out. What an era.
This is probably your best editing to date John... enjoyed the detail and the way it was presented too. Class! Didn't know Fresh Layers was so nice inside :)
I'm finishing up my very first paid detailing job today, and this is excellent inspiration as I hit the exterior potion of the job. Thanks, my friend! Beautiful video!
this 190 came with the legendary W124, built in parallel, quality was awesome, unlike its successor which fell apart because of corrosion...the whole car was in very good condition, only its paint got too much UV-light....excellent result finally, amazing what the right hands, tools and detergents can do....
The perfection not possible" part, is so true. Many detailing videos don't mention the fact that sometimes, especially with old paint, while it will look massively better from afar, some things just can't be done. Thanks for showing this so openly in the video and great job on the paint
Out there washing and doing decon in pouring down rain. That's commitment. Like a Rocky training montage, punching cold meat, flipping tires in the snow level badass.👍👌✌
Wow, awsome work guys. The 190 is ready for the next 32 years! And always lovely to see, that young people drive W201 Babybenz. It's a car for every age.... It connects generations.
Absolutely beautiful! I have seen brand new cars that had worse looking paint. I do believe that this also shows that a quality vehicle will hold up over time.
Still think that'll be W123. I mean the reason W201 is so respected is because it stands on the shoulders of giants. Giant in this case would be the legendary W123. The first car made by MB for the world market.
One of the best detailing videos I’ve ever seen. Please, please do more old Mercedes, esp from the 70s to 90s they are so overbuilt that they usually come back nicely from a good detailing.
This car was owned by someone who treated it like a baby... it was in perfect condition, no dents or scratches, anything... Like new... but these cars can rust like any other... I don't think its paintjob is better than oem paintworks on present's models
Javier Ruiz Homedes paint on older Benz’s used different solvents that are banned and not allowed to be used these days. Today all cars are cheap shite. A total scam to keep you paying for nothing & to keep complete track of you with your phone being paired into the car. You can’t work on new cars as some use proprietary tools, you need a license to work on them & to use the OS it can cost up to £25,000 to use. Old cars were better made too.
@@redlineracing4947 I'm 40 and I've fixing modern cars by myself since I have drvn license. You only need some basic tools and a obd2 scan. If you feel better thinking old cars were better, even better made, good for you... But that's not true sir... Any actual car with proper maintanance is able to do over million miles...you cannot say the same on the most cars of 30 years ago or more (not in case of some brands like the one in the video (
Javier Ruiz Homedes speaking with relativity. Old Hondas, Mercedes, BMW’s, Volvos etc. & newer cars are so much harder to work on than older ones. The “innovation” inside of the industry is anything but. The eco boost engine is a joke aswell.
Yes indeed; my 95 E36 is lacquered and it’s frustrating not to be able to get to the paint underneath. No matter what I do I’m always working the clear coat and cannot stop the fade (it’s red !)
Job very well done !!! Buut what also helped was the fact that this was a very clean Faded Paint due to the sun and the Carwash (remember that's basicly scratching away most of your colour) Cracking job making this diamond shine again!
So satisfying :)) credit to merc there... to get that finish on todays water based paints be difficult, the old school lacquer and oil based paints so durable
I have a 190E 2.3 and a W124 280TE. Both are sound but they would really benefit from this. 37 years ago, I was offered a job at a detailer's, but I was too young and still at school. They had RRs, MB SLs, Jags. All that leather and wood!
That is one of the best TRANSFORMATIONS I have seen in detailing in a LONG time. Even not getting out the deep imperfections, which most car owners would be totally fine with, this car looks 1000 times better than it did. Anyone would be proud to have that car now!
Ive said it before and I will say it again. You are one of the nicest viewer I have Joe. Your positive vibes are awesome and guys like you make doing the content worthwhile.
for its time, the paint job on those mid-80's E-series, both the 190 and 300, were indestructible, much better than cars I've had over the last 15 years, in my opinion. I've had both an '85 190 e, in red just like this one, and an '87 gold-ish 300, each got a long holiday weekend of love from me at some point during the time I had them - wash, clay bar, hand polish. Now, if I had either, I would do a ceramic coat but those weren't around when i had the cars. This is just an incredible result though, well done! maybe i need to find one of these again, they were my favorite cars to date
wow thats a reallly NICE car ! im very suprised to see it looked NEW with the body NOT having any dents , dings or deep scratches! great job cleaning up that car !
Did this with my W201 Barolorot (540) a couple of years ago. Using RotWeiss polish and Swissvax Onyx. Came out similar. It's all about a very good cleanup before you start polishing and waxing.
