The mark on the penknife is an early form of design patent, and from the various numbers and letters you can date when that design was registered. The one you showed is the Type 'B' diamond registry mark used between 1868 and 1883. from the top going clockwise ~ the 'I' is a 1 and is for metal materials/class; the 14 is the day of the month; 'U' is for 1848; the 'E' is for the month of May; the last is 'the parcel number'. If it is silver then from the assay mark you would get the date of manufacture, where it was assayed, and the makers name.

Hi folks, the 'hook' thing is a pipe nail. They were made in a variety of sizes and were hammered into walls or joists to support pipes. You often see them holding old gas pipes but more especially the old lead and galvanised steel pipes. They haven't been used much since the fifties or sixties. I've been enjoying catching up with your stuff since seeing you with with Si finds and Nicola White at Winsor. Keep up the decluttering folks, and thanks for taking the time and effort to film and produce these wee insights, I appreciate it. Kind regards, Matt in Orkney, NE Scotland. @@mariecollinspeakydippers Just watching.. History found and a visit to the police.. from 3yrs ago, I'm catching up... and on the round up Glen shows a brush that he wasn't sure about, well I'm 69, and my dad was a steam crane driver in the 50s-60s at Preston dock, and I used to go to work with him in the holidays and sit in the crane with him, and he had a massive (to an 8 year old kid) grease tub for lubing up all the moving parts of the crane, and the bogey the crane pulled behind it. In the tub was a brush exactly like that one, being round, it was perfect for getting round the cogs and drive gear, holding more grease than a flat brush would have. So I don't recall where he found it, but if it was near a railway line, it could have come from an engine, and dropped off into the canal. Hope this helps...John Kearns, Bamber Bridge, Lancashire 👍👍👌👌👌

The butcher knife is a fillet knife made by Dexter/Russell from Massachusetts, U.S.A. It looked like it was worked down quite a bit, but they are made from high quality stainless steel. That one has a fibreglass grip, and they've been available since the 1980's, before that Dexter/Russell knives mainly had wooden handles. I'm a chef, and I've been using that brand for over forty years.

Seems like you had a brilliant day! The penknife with the mark on is actually an English registration mark. The top one I is the class which is metal, number 14 covers the years of pattern registration to 1846-1872. I couldn't read the far left letter, but it's the month..l is July, D is September. U is the day of the month, but oddly that letter isn't listed! The E at the bottom is the bundle number, but I have no idea what that is! My book doesn't tell me. Well done.

The Wedge pointed Hook would be used for Washing lines ETC. You drive a wedge of Wood into the mortar of a Brick wall, then hammer the hook in, its surprising how much weight the line can carry. They were reusable, when the Wood came loose it would be driven into a fresh wedge in the Wall. People even took them when they moved House.! (maybe.!)

Got a couple of questions if you don’t mind, what’s the name of the band that you use for your opening music please? Secondly, did you ever get any feedback back from the “old bill” about that huge weapons find you lot had at Leamington? I was wondering if that hadn’t been a personal collection that they’d decided to dispose of? I do enjoy watching your stuff on RU-vid, keep going.
