Thank you Mr Pete. I wish I had the time to spend with a good friend of mine who was a first class machinist. Interestingly at work he operated a very big lathe most of the time, yet he was also expected to operate any machine in the shop of course. In his home shop he did anything and everything. It was always a joy to visit him. He loved making steam boilers (up to 6 inch) steam models, radio controlled aeroplanes, he repaired musical instruments. And I thought it was always funny that he could buy steam valves for his steam models but he would make them from scratch. You remind me so much of him.

I have been eagerly awaiting the "next" video in hopes of seeing how to sharpen end mills as described in VEVOR's advertisement. After watching your video this morning I was extremely disappointed in finding out the sharpener fell short of this application. I think VEVOR should compensate the buyers of this unit in some fashion. As for the sharpening of the drills, I am very pleased. I purchased the unit for the very reason it was stated it would sharpen both drills and end mills.

Neat! I have an index of super cheap, super sharp HSS bits that seem to be so quickly sharpened at the factory they usually cut on one side only. Another useful consideration if pondering a powered sharpener. Thank ya sir!

I really enjoyed this video. I'd buy one if I didn't have so many not-so-much-used drills. Any bad ones could be pitched as plenty more good ones are on hand. Bottom lime is this: If I had a need, I'd buy one. But Pete: here's a different twist on presentation: I learned and mastered drill sharpening in vocational machine shop. Could I do it now as good as I did when age 18? Probably not at age 72. So for older folks that are still active in shop work the Vevor looks really good. For those like me, my money doesn't go very far like it did four years ago, so I don't think I can afford one seeing as I may not have a real need. If Vevor gifted me one, I'd jump at dressing up all the worn drills in my shop.

Hi Mr. Pete, I bought a 13B a few months ago and somewhere in the information while investigating the machines before I purchased it, I found something that makes me think the Chinese that don't understand English believe drill bits are called end mills. There was some misinterpretation and I don't know where I saw it, but it answered the same question you are presenting. I also bought a Vevor MR 20G that grinds up to 3/4" bits. I have used it some, buI had most of my hundreds of bits already sharpened on the 13B. I almost sent it back until I realized the collets were dirty. The 3/4" (20mm) collet is about the limit of the machine and is very thin. It apparently had something on the collet and I couldn't get it to seat. I finally put the collets in my ultrasonic and lubricated them with WD 40 lithium grease and they work fine. I have wanted a Tormek T8 for a long time top sharpen my hundred knives, so I am going to spring for the extra ~$400 and buy the drill bit sharpening kit. It will sharpen up to 7/8" bits. It uses the facet sharpening method rather than the radial method most sharpeners use. It looks to be a lot slower, but it will be interesting, I have never sharpened using the facet method. It looks very precise and is probably a better way to go with some bits? It will be interesting!

I think that one of these Vevor drill sharpeners will be what my next bonus check at work will going to.

hmm maybe throw those in a bag of oil in the ultrasonic once in a while to keep those collets clean from abrasive dust that will eventually wreck them. I see the most precise toolmakers clean the collets frequently, particularly after lapping paste, after rotary lapping. some diamond dust might get in there

Thanks for the video. I have been sharpening mine by hand on a bench grinder and I want to get way from it. Can you explain drill bit coatings and if any of them affect resharpening? Specifically, I'm thinking about titanium and cobalt bits.

Thanks for sharing MrPete! I think I'm going to order one. I have an ancient copy of Henry Ford's "Shop Practice" that has a section on drill bit geometry. It's quite informative.

Lyle I have the drill Dr sharpener and it does perform well. I even have the left hand drill collet adapt for mine .I think its the 750 model. I'm an old machinist and my eyes just aren't as sharp like a razor anymore. I definitely would buy a vevor if I had none.

I recall watching Keith Fenner wanting a hole to be perfectly symmetrical, he went to the grinder and knocked off on side of the drill tip and wanted only one chip...

Hey, going to watch rest of video but old boss bought us a drill doctor which I have halfway mastered, my biggest tip is to scrunch down the tightness after setting tip. One or 2 clicks positive if drills being sharpened have split tips. If you are splitting tips grind first and then reset tips then split. Ok I don't like drill doctors. But I have found out how to make them work. Bigger bits I have a Starrett drill point guage and I put on my good glasses. Damn I hate getting old, I used to be able to see .005 no problem. Best drill point grinder I have ever used was a Diamond brand, expensive piece of kit, center of center drills no problem, could play with clearance and make special countersinks. Great machine. Might have to talk new boss into one of these vevors, just watching to see your recommendation. Thursday, our cnc guy kept bringing me drill bits to touch up, gee. Drill doctor got it done. He didn't come back. I need to get n me a set of those magnifiers that go on my head like yours. Ok I have got a set at home but none at work, just a big lighted magnifier. Other guys use it too.

By end mill grinder sharpener, maybe they mean the grinding Wheels?

This may sound like a novice question, but what are the two different grinds used for? Thank you.

I've not used this machine, but it looks like you put the collet in backwards at 7:32. When you showed the 1/4" bit in the collet at 7:14, the collet was inserted with the tapered collet head to the tapered section of the holder.

Oh darn I was really hoping to get some pointers on splitting those points and thinning webbing in this vid, guess Ill have to wait. I am curious as to whether those operations can actually be handled by this machine however? Oh nevermind I see! I should practice more patience.

Lyle - Good video. This product seems to fit the quality/repeatability space between a Drill Doctor and a Darex. I had an early Drill Doctor that I used for years but eventually the plastic alignment went out - by playing with it I could still get it to work properly. Like you said, as long as you understand the bit geometry it really helps when sharpening. Like most any other eye hand coordination task practice helps a lot. If I had not found my Darex at a school auction for about $100 I would be looking at a Vevor. Sure looks like a good machine. If you play around with the depth of grind and those multiple pin locations does that somehow set the angle correctly for an end mill? Interesting problem - bet there is something like that to accomplish the end mill grind.

I have the newer Drill Docktor and the one problem I have is getting the relief angle, I see this is a common problem, without the proper angle the drill doesn't cut. Seeing this machine makes me want to try it out to see if it will do a better job than the Drill Docktor.

Will any of the 3 Machines sharpen LEFT HANDED or counter clockwise bits? I bought out a Bankrupt Machine shop and they must have LOVED them because I have thousands of all sizes of Lefties!

I could not find the listing for the replacement grinding wheels on the web site printed on the side of the wheel. It shows grinders but no listing for replacement parts.

If you haven’t done it already, I would be interested in seeing you do a video on drill bit geometry, and hearing more about your drill bit instructional aid ( e.g. what was it made of, how was it made?)

I purchased the 13b after watching your video. Not having watched your 3rd video yet (it’s not posted yet) I’m not sure I made the right decision because I think I might like the split point rather than the web thinning feature. I’ve successfully sharpened bits from 1/8” to 1/2” and had no problems getting a good clean edge that cuts like factory. All possible only because of your video. The instructions are horrible and even after knowing how to use it, I went back and very carefully read the instructions again and I can’t make heads or tails out of it. It’s really bad to the point of making me mad. I found it curious that they make no mention of the web thinning knob and how it functions. I’ve loosened the hex nut holding the pivot point, and turned the knob from all the way from left to right and found it doesn’t do anything, arggggg! I’ve also found that all my bits have what appears to be a grind of around 114 to 115 degrees so I adjusted the angle accordingly leading me to believe the scale is slightly off. No big deal since I’ll set it and forget it and I’ve made a mark where the grind matches the factory edge. All in all it’s a good machine with instructions that make reading them the equivalent of the Bataan Death March, and using it like a day in the park. Thank you so much for your clear tutorial that without I would have been pulling my hair out.

I own a Drill DR (3/4 inch ) and I have had and do have success using it BUT, I've had my issues etc...I think drill dr biggest problem is the base is light weight and so is the chuck. Also instead of mechanical action i.e the lobe of the vevor, the drill dr has a lobe on the chuck and that makes it awkward to use

The Vevor I received had unequal collets. The 3 smallest collets were longer and seem to interfere with the storage door. Are your collets all the same height? Does the inequality affect the indexing of the smaller drills?

May I add to my previous comment that after leaving the military service ( Honorable Discharge) in the mid 1980's, I became Master certified as a Auto and Heavy truck mechanic, and later a Certified Machinist as well. I made my living in these career fields ever since. That has been quite a while. I just wanted to express that the VEVOR purchase I made, with what I believe to be false advertisement , is WRONG DOING by that Co. and it should be MADE RIGHT.

Clarify...I thought diamond could not be used for steels because the heat of grinding causes carbon to transfer from the diamond to the steel.

Getting the extra wheel would be worth the $30.00 even if you didn't use the additional features.

CE doesn't stand for 'China Export'. The CE mark is a European product conformity mark ("conformité européenne"), it signifies that products sold in the EEA have been assessed to meet high safety, health, and environmental protection requirements.

Up to 1/2" dia.. Drill Doctor goes up to 3/4".

Why no one demostrate smaller drills on this. Those are most hard to grind by hand and this would be useful for them them most. But I saw many videos about it but none demonstrated smaller drill bits.

It is a widely known myth that CE stands for China Export. CE stands for Conformité Européenne. That translates into European conformity. It just means it meets European product standards. If you have an electrical item that has the power switch on the back of the machine thank the Europeans. One of their standards is the switch has to be within a set distance of the power cord.

Sadly, these drill grinders are not available from Vevor in the UK

We begged and pleaded with the owners not to buy a Drill Doctor but the Vevor instead but no,they would not listen for their hearts had grown cold.

CE is conformite europeenne we used to say it was checked for Europe though now Britain has left the suits the French version. It w as on everything not just Chinese imports it replaced the. Kite mark here though it was nothing like it and only covers the product not the tools that made it or the canteen.

If the story about the CE mark is true then it is clearly designed to fool purchasers. The European authorities would then take legal action against the importers for misleading markings. Could your explanation possibly be just a conspiracy theory or do you have evidence that the equipment is not "Conformité Européenne" compliant ?
