The Amazon Echo 3rd Gen has a feature that all before it doesn't have, the headphone jack on the back is also an input jack, this can open up some possibilities for other uses from this smart speaker, let me introduce you to some use cases.
Syncwire 3.5mm Nylon Braided Aux Cable

He is an excellent instructor. He speaks slow enough to understand but doesn't drag it out. I really like the additional close-ups pictures of the items that he's discussing and then he reviews. I have enjoyed this video and can't wait to hear some more.

My Echo Plus has the aux output option in the Alexa app but not my Echo Studio. But I realized you don’t need it. Just plug in the 3.5 mm cable from your source to your Echo Studio and it just works. No settings to change. 😀

My goodness! I checked the Amazon website and it says it's Audio In/Out and then later just says it's audio out. I had no idea I could change it in the Alexa app. Was about to buy the more expensive Amazon speaker as I thought I could not actually achieve audio in and have the computer output played through the speaker. I agree, its not an easy task to put all of that information into an easy to understand video. Nice job. I do have one question that im not sure if you adressed or even needed to, but maybe. Is it possible to use as the output to a second speaker and still use the echo as a first speaker, i.e both together. I hope you understant what I mean, as i said, its not easy to explain. :) P.s. I dont care if its stereo or two mono channels.

The best way to accomplish what you are doing is to use the new FireTV 4k max plugged into the HDMI ARC port. Plugging the 4k max into the arc port allows your device to be recognized as a receiver to allow pass though from anything connected to the TV. This will allow you to take full advantage of the ATMOS sound passed through HDMI cables into the TV
@bhpersonal
@bhpersonal 2 года назад
I tried the FireTV 4K Max and HDMI Arc streaming to 2 Gen 4 Echo's as a stereo pair and an Echo Sub. The handshake was very hard to make happen. I finally got one channel of audio through one of the Echo's and gave up and returned the FireTV 4K Max. Way more trouble than it's worth and not ready for prime time, at least for what I was trying to do. A simple 2.1 setup shouldn't be so hard to set up.

I had just one obstacle along the way. Your device must be online (connected to Wi-Fi) when you INITIALLY change the AUX audio from "Line Out" to "Line In". Until it's online, the AUX audio option may not be listed in the app. I was worried this would be the case each time I cabled the Echo from my laptop, so I unplugged the Echo, and then plugged it back in to be sure. There must be a small amount of internal storage within the actual Echo, because it remembers the setting even when it's not using Wi-Fi after the initial setup. The Echo still needs to be plugged into a power source, just like any speaker with a corded or battery power source. So don't expect to be jammin' out from your cell phone aux output while camping in the woods! I use this corded option at work because we have an Enterprise Network, which can only be used if you have Alexa for Business. Aside from my situational obstacles, this was a great explanation of what the 3.5mm aux jacks are capable of. Thank you!

Already learned more from your videos then from any other concerning Amazon Echo. However, if I may, I would have some additonal questions. My scenario: I have a PC and two Echo Studio, the soundcard has one Toslink Cable and an 3,5 Output. If I use the Toslink into one of the two studios - would it still connect to have stero playback? Would it also support Dolby Atmos? As there are cables that split 3,5 into right and left - do I have to expect any shortcomings (still no Dolby Atmos, poorer Soundquality, sync issues)? .... thanks a lot in advandce! .... really like your videos as the get to the point and beyond what others are usually covering.

Great Vid Chard. You rock! I actually tried to plug in my computer speaker system. It has a 3.5mm headphone jack wire that I can plug right into my phone and listen to music on the speakers. I tried to hook it into my Echo Studio and no music would play through. So, I unplugged it and then my Studio speaker itself would no longer work. I ended up having to unplug it and recalibrate the whole thing to get it to work. All that said, what happened? Do I have to go into the Alexa app to make changes? So from what I am understanding you are trying to connect the projector, TV, and PS4 to the Echo studio for audio. Well to make that possible you are going to need more than a cable. You going to need this Audio Control Switch Box ( amzn.to/31vSW5x ). You are going to plug the audio from all sources in this box and then plus the Echo Studio into the out of this box. The type of cable needed is all going to the depend on the source but I left links in the video desc to get you started. Note on end of the cable must be RCA. Let me know if this helps or if you need help finding cables.

Hi. Thinks for the info. I ordered 2 echo studios and an echo sub. In your opinion, what would be the best way to set the speakers up as my home theater system? I’m hoping I can keep it as wireless as possible, yet somehow use it for my tv’s primary output. Thanks to n advance

Hello, you are welcome, glad to help. If you audio out port on the back of TV then you can use the cable method. If you a Fire TV Stick connected to the TV, then you can use this method, Setting Up Amazon Echoes In Theater Mode - Part 2 - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TxYIlbA_DRQ.html

That's easy, you just need a splitter cable 3.5mm Y splitter ( amzn.to/2Mg4FQ7 ) & then connect the cable to the TV and the Echos (Make the Echos are in Audio In mode)

Hi Chard. My house is pre-wired with ceiling speakers but I don’t have a receiver. Is there a work around so that I don’t have to purchase a receiver to play music through my outdoor ceiling speakers. Wondering if the echo could do this or if not, do you have any ideas that might work so that I don’t have to purchase a receiver for them?

Hello, sorry for the late response, so many request for help and so little time. Well I researched a possible way, but I'm not having any easy way for you, besides getting a receiver. Or you can get the Amazon Echo Link Amp - Stream and amplify hi-fi music to your speakers amzn.to/2Df75tL. Or you can just get a portable speaker that's big enough to suit your needs.

I have a question I have a set of pc speakers that I have connected to my echo dot 3rd gen with rca to aux and I have it in a routine to play music from pandora for my alarm or if I just want to hear music but when I have the speakers off and I try to use alexa I can't hear sound is there a way to have alexa respond to your commands using built in speakers while you have the speakers off ?
@ChardTheTechGuy
@ChardTheTechGuy 3 года назад
Okay William, once the connect the cable into the Echo Dot it cut off the sound from coming out of the Echo Dot speakers, so even when you turn off the PC speakers as long as the cable is plug into the Dot, the sound will not return back to the Dot speakers. So if you are going to turn off the PC speakers unplug the cable from the Dot to hear Alexa from the Dot.

Great video, and you don't seem to have my problem. Whenever I plug any 3.5mm to 3.5mm audio cable (one is from Sony, so quality, one assumes) the Echo Studio makes a background loud noise UNTIL I plug the other end into an ACTIVE output source, i.e. my PC for example. BUT as soon as that device goes off, the noise returns! Any idea what can it be? It's annoying, and surely not good, to have to unplug the 3.5mm end out of the Studio every time I turn the equipment off!

No you can't hook up the mic to that jack, it's an output instead of an input. Get the Echo Flex for the bathroom ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JMDbhGJf2yA.html ) and a Bluetooth waterproof speaker ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Kbmqa-qNd-M.html ).

Unfortunately my requirement is a little more challenging as I have existing speakers which are now connected to a Bluetooth amp which is driven by an Echo flex.
