Amazon Echo Sub: Good Hardware Meets Terrible Software 

Absolutely awful review. You need to pair the sub with two Fi the same type of speaker. That is not a flaw. Most people are running the sub with speakers and using it was a smart speaker set, or using it with a fire stick for watching movies. Who pairs this with an school show, as this guy did? The set up is extremely easy, and of course you hook all speakers to the same Wi-Fi network. His criticism that this was hard to figure out/complicated makes it seem like he is looking for problems. The review is nonsense.

I have had 2 Echo Studios and the sub since they were released a couple of years ago and I listen to them every so often when I think about it just to blow the dust off of them. I have 2 other excellent stereo systems so the Echos are basically toys to me. I recently added the firmware update and I didn't notice much of a difference in the sound but maybe that's just me. I've never had any issues with them and they sound nice for what they are.

I have two studios and a sub. They don’t play nice together and I’ve had to remake the group several times. Just wanted a simple set up to go with the fire stick and feel it’s a waste of money. When it works it’s brilliant but it’s only a matter of time before it gets out of sync or a speaker or sub isn’t working and it all needs doing again. I’d advise getting a 5ghz dedicated wifi for it and not use mesh.

I’m no techno geek - Found it to very simple to add the Echo Sub to an existing stereo pair of Echo speakers. Very simple set up. Sounds great. Highly recommended. Has been running flawlessly for two months - No problems. Note: I agree that the Alexa app can be a little tricky, but not a big deal. 🤠

Do not buy it. It’s a problem child that can’t pair up prperly, and it is totally useless to access outside the echo echosystem.

I have two of these echo subs. One of these for upstairs and one for downstairs and a Exho ecosystem around the entire house. I set these up with no problems at all. I have a large home with 5 bedrooms and I put theses subs in large common areas. I can hear around most of my house

You should add a segment about what are other alternatives and other subs you would prefer over the echo sub

I’m having issues using the equalizer on the Alexa app to turn up the bass😩 at the moment the bass is so low the sub might as well not be connected

Thanks for this. If I got one, I would be forced to put the sub in the corner of the room and hence the inability do dial down the sub's volume independently is a show-stopper for me. They should develop a proper room correction setup function inside the Alexa app.

ive been sitting here for over an hour trying to connect the Echo Sub to my Alexa but nothing is working. Even when it says its been connected, i still cant play music with both the devices. It only lets me use the Echo Sub or the Alexa, but not both in the same time which is literally the purpose of the ECHO SUB!!.

I think your review is a little harsh. I have three Echo subs set up in various rooms in my house, and had little difficulty getting them working beautifully. I am 79 years old and no tech maven by any means. Anyhow the system(s) sound really great. Yes, you do have to add the Sub to matched Echo devices set up in stereo mode - but I would have certainly expected that in any case, so why the surprise? I love the combo coupled with Amazon's music service - beautiful music throughout the house. And I did use the equalizer on the subs to enhance the base a bit further - love it! Cheers

i have two echo studios and use the with the studios , great for movies , for music i use a proper vintage Pioneer receiver/JBl system .

I hope they do a new echo sub in ligth grey with app control and more powerful also if you have and echo studio the echo sub have the same frequency response😅

This video is 100% accurate. The sub is great, the software sucks.

So if I have only one echo dot 2nd gen I can't pair it with the sub? Because I'm trying and I'm getting a message saying there is no compatible speaker on your network. Both dot and sub are connected to the same WiFi.... Can someone explain. Thanks

We have 2 echo studios..1 upstairs and 1 downstairs….my wife bought 2 echo subs, again 1 for upstairs and one for downstairs . I have tried to pair each sub to their respective Echo studios and have had no luck getting it work. Is this not a viable setup? Can you Not have a sub in each location paired to a studio? I’m lost with this setup process.

Can a non Echo sub be connected with an rca cable to a Echo Show 10? If not hopefully they will create options to do so in the future as well as stereo connection with an rca cable using 2 speakers and sub outs on the subs. The way these are presently doesn't interest me personally.

Once my sub was paired with my 2 dots, it would not pair with anything else, I even took them off line,

I bought this Sub a few Months ago and it has made a massive difference to my Amazon family. It is linked to 6 Speakers and was a little tricky to set up. I agree with everything you have stated here. I wish I could turn up the Bass and reduce the Speakers, I have to crank it up loud to get anything from it.

Thank you! I was thinking about getting these speakers to get myself out of the nightmare that my Echo 1st Gen doesn't work anymore with my new mesh. These devices would've only made the nightmare more expensive.

Yeah.... Im happy with my second hand monitor speakers and analog amp. I have 15" Velodyne servo-sub but i also have neighbours to consider. :D And i don't even know where my phone is currently but my available audio settings are: treble, bass, volume and balance. I can only adjust volume via remote. :DDDDD

let's say it short: there is no equalizer for the sub alone = that makes the echo sub is shi*/useless the worst thing is, when you have a stereo pair -a good 2.0 setup (2 x echos for example), they loose all their bass which was very good on it's own. After the connection they sound so weak, that you have a ugly listening experience and you can spot where the sub is standing (which nobody wants) No normal human beeing keeps that sub for a stereo pair ...

It is absolutely worthless. I tried to like it, like a new album from your favorite band but had to accept that it belongs in the cut out bin. No power, no thump, no boom, minimal sound enhancement. Do yourself a favor like I did. If you bought it,return it, like I did and wait until they get a sub that actually produces a bass sound. Verdict: Fail.

I wasted about 4 hours trying to get the Echo Sub to work including an hour on their terrible technical support line. It never did pair with my studio set. I even tried it again and now it refuses to go into setup (orange mode). I'm returning this piece of crap. This kind of unreliable and convoluted install process is not acceptable in 2023. The Alexa software is also terrible. SKIP THIS!
