The worst was when Amazon stopped allowing Review Replies, so you can't let others know when their review sucks, and you can't point out fake reviews....
@alexanderpasnl
@alexanderpasnl 3 месяца назад
True... And help people. Almost daily I see comments of people having problems with a product and I know the often simple solution, but can't reply anymore. We're being shut up faster then a lot of people think. Try to find clubs, hobbyists, bulletin boards, groups or whatever from any hobby or interest on Google... It's 100% commercial search results. It's so bad that great clubs are ended because no one can find them anymore. It's even in the 'news' that bulletin boards are from the past. Well yeah, but not because no one is interested in them anymore. The more a company claims to be working against something fake, you just know they are shutting up something real

Amazon not only refused to post a real review from me, but told me their decision was non-negotiable and if I tried, they would cancel my account of 23 years. My offense? I bought some dummy shells to be used in a .243 sporting rifle to avoid damaging the striker during dry-fire adjustment of the trigger. The shells I received were of a larger gauge and useless in the rifle I bought them for. I had the audacity to write a negative review saying they were the wrong size and not to buy them. To this day I have no idea why Amazon responded so harshly. They sold the item to me. It was labeled as the wrong size. I reported that on an item they sell. Go figure.

What I would suggest is to instead try to report the listing as inaccurate. When I received an item that was far smaller than advertised I actually called Amazon and complained that the box was literally not big enough to hold the item I ordered (to make it worse it was an urn for ashes😢) and got a refund. The listing did get dealt with.

Serious questions: What does "Do not sell my personal information" even do? Is there a legal framework for those words or is it just whatever is stated in ToS or is it mostly meaningless? Does it allow for "anonymization" of "personal data" that CAN be sold? Does data collection stop or does the company reserve the right to keep collecting any data they please just without selling to other companies? Is "Do not sell my personal information" just a suggestion or is it legally binding? Who even checks if companies comply with that? "...will instruct its third party providers to cease commercializing", what?

One of the biggest problems with the reviews, especially for an item like a fuse, is that most people just pop in the replacement fuse and think "well, it didnt blow so it must be a good fuse!" And leave a review accordingly. And if the person dies or their house burns down because of it, they probably wont leave a review at all...

The last thing I tried to leave a review on was a Supermicro W580 board. Imagine my surprise when I ordered it, and what arrived was a W480 board. Turns out the item description said one thing (X12SAE, W480) and the title said another (X12SAE-5, W580). Then they said you aren't allowed to review products for having misleading listings! Reporting misleading listings doesn't do jack, either.

Amazon is terrible with fake reviews, I mess with a company that contacts me for product for review thing. I review them and delete the review completely a few days later, they never notice because they probably do thousands of these a month. They always request pictures with reviews so you know if it has a picture and it's positive its more likely to be fake, especially if its surrounded by other reviews which all have pictures. Normally people rarely post pictures because they don't really add much unless there is something specific they need to show, but the companies buying reviews being hung up on them sometimes makes it easier to spot them sometimes by that. You'll notice like 90% of the reviews in a time period being with pictures and you know all or most of those are fake.

As a past seller on Amazon, I can tell you that another facet is the pay-to-win model has gotten out of hand. You have ZERO visibility if you aren't running ads or a campaign. And even if you do those things, foreign markets will bump up their own ads and campaigns to shove you down. And the platform directly incentivizes this behavior. Greater money in, more money out. Lower money (or no money) in, NO money out. 🤬

I agree about the Ali Express comment, I think there you are more likely dealing directly with a human running a small retail establishment that wants your return business (from my experience), I think they at least check to make sure what they are sending is not defective. They have much more to gain by having a happy repeat customer. Amazon is too big to care. If you want to get sad regarding speaker cables (just run of the mill, not regarding construction quality) Amazon branded cable, and most of the China brands are now days Copper Clad Aluminum. I had not heard of this cheap-out until I tried to solder it to something about 5 years back.. that's a no go, I tried every type of flux I had and both leaded and lead free solder. I'm not sure it makes much difference for the typical user though.

Mostly the rule of the corporation is now the norm. This applies to USA politics, media, pharma and many other spaces. Go farming, invest in localy produced goods and junk the ellectronics.

You didn't understand, how it works: This fuse lasts forever. It will never blow. So it must be much better than all this other crap from these overpriced European brands....

I would love if going to manufacturer's actually made sense, but I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't. Finding a small online store that even sells to Canada is a win, finding one where the shipping isn't $40 for a small package is like finding a unicorn, and finding one that even has a Canadian dollar version of their site is like winning the lottery. Quite frankly, that has always been the benefit of Amazon for me, 'local' warehouses (in the same country anyways), with cheap shipping, for most things. Shipping is expensive, international logistics is practically nightmarish, I get it, but it makes shopping from smaller, direct from manufacturer stores very difficult. I considered buying a limited edition first edition of a book direct from the author in the UK recently. The book itself wasn't marked up from standard retail price, but after currency conversion and shipping cost, it would have been 3x the price of me buying the same book (just without the limited edition signed dust jacket) from Amazon or another book dealer in Canada. No big loss, I don't even need to go through Amazon, but the same concept applies to other products. Shopping has gotten immeasurably more difficult, thanks to the convenience of online stores.

Only reason Amazon is more trusted than Ali-Express is because Amazon is based in USA and most assume their products meets with expectations there..

Unfortunately, they assume wrong. Both are bad. A little bit of research would reveal how incompetent and careless their management is from top to bottom.

The Chinese online stores being less of a scam than the western ones is funny and sad. And very embarrassing.

Oh that's ok. I'm outright banned from leaving reviews. There was an issue and maybe two reviews were submitted twice on accident (the page would reload looking like the feedback was not yet submitted) now it's flaggged for "suspicious activity." And all reviews are nuked. Don't bother with customer service because "Makaylah" was supposed to review and resolve it over memorial weekend. This is just probably an excuse though to just outright ban dissenting opinions like mine, because some reviews have been hit with "hate speech" violations in the past, even though nowhere in my reviews did I ever attack anyone. They boiled down to: "This X stinks, here's why it stinks." Yet we have *trans*formers doing full on cheesecake poses "reviewing" clothes and products were 90% of the pic is their body, but these don't get taken down. They use Amazon as their Onlyfans.

Biggest issue with Amazon reviews is the seller can edit/change the product entirely and keep the reviews for the products listed beforehand.

Definately an issue. I've gone back looking for items I purchased years ago and the link/listing is for a completely different product.

Absolutely the most easy and common way that I see the Amazon algorithm exploited. It is not too hard to spot if you're looking out for it, at least currently. Bait-and-switch is much worse than in-place enshittification IMO but both make it hard to identify what is a good value anymore

After working for a parcel company, I have worked hard to buy at the actual seller's website. Have found some awesome small businesses this way and shipping is a better experience direct, generally.

Wait until people have to return high value items. It's a nightmare and Amazon doesn't care. They deal with 100 billion in shrinkage a year. Consumers need to stop being lazy.
