Amazon's Alexa shuts down when asked about her CIA connection - Daily Mail

Amazon's Alexa is being questioned about its ties to the CIA. A clip has surfaced showing an anonymous woman asking Alexa a series of questions, starting with 'would you lie to me' and finishing with 'Alexa, are you connected to the CIA?' The virtual assistant swiftly responded to the first question, but appears to shut down (right) after it is interrogated about its connections to the US government agency. Amazon has since told DailyMail.com that it was a 'technical glitch' and has been fixed. An Amazon spokesperson said that if you asked Alexa if it is connected to the CIA, it now responds, 'No, I work for Amazon'.

I just asked her if she listens to our families conversation without us asking her. The blue light circles then shuts off. We need to get rid of this thing

Jeremy of the quartering just covered a new story today about a smart home locked the homeowner out because Amazon decided that they were racist. All the smart devices in his house quit working because an Amazon driver made false accusations against the homeowner when they were delivering a package no one was home. And their ring doorbell responded to the driver. Who's wearing headphones at the time. And then decided that the automated doorbell made a racist comment. So the Amazon driver complained and Amazon shut the smart home down locking the people that live there out of their house. If you have any of these smart devices in your house I would get rid of them if I was you.

Yeah, it is alarming but most of Alexas responses are written responses that she just reads off. I made a test app and it uses a json file to select responses. I'm guessing, this is a canned response where nothing was written in for that question. Last I checked, it wasn't using LLM tech. I do think the CIA/FBI is shopping on it though.

Question: if a person asks her another, unrelated question, for which she has no programmed response, does she do the same thing she does in this video? Just shut down?

i found this very intresting because i asked alexa if her database was connected to the cia and all of a sudden she fully shut down and i lost power for a few minutes and now she refuses to play or answer anything very intresting
