Tip for classroom library: Color dot stickers on the book to match the box color where they go. Or you can have bins labeled with a letter of the alphabet. Students match the first letter of the title ( teach them to skip “The”) of the book to the letter on the bin. PS: that makes it easy gif you to find the books, too.

Hi Sarah, I am new to your channel but am enjoying your enthusiasm and kindness! Thank you for sharing. I live in Alaska and our state has enacted the Alaska Reads acts for students and teachers. As part of that I just finished a training on the science of reading. I plan to organize my kinder/preK library by subject and author where that makes sense, but also I plan to get decodable books as part of the science of teaching phonics and phonemic awareness, and organize those by spelling patterns. I have used the colored dots before and I plan to do that again. I have alphabetized my picture books too. All color coded is the best way to keep those organized. Also, keep the number of books down, too many makes a mess! Please don't level the books, that is not how kiddos read😊

You got some great books! For books that I'm interested in buying, I always go to RU-vid first before buying them. Listen to the read alouds and look at the pictures to see if the book is worth it or not.

Idea for your tickets: Many teachers use tickets for raffles. Give them a ticket, they can write their initials or name and put it in a bucket. On Fridays do a drawing of x amount of tickets and if their ticket gets called they pick from the prize bin.

Idea for the clear plastic covers: Assign one per student. That way they will have one whenever they need it.

I love the pocket sleeves. They are great for things you need to post like schedules that change frequently. It saves laminating.

Your desk where you stacked the boxes is so beautiful! Is it an antique rolltop desk? I have a suggestion for the library. Set the books out in bins and label the bins with the character or topic picture for that group. You could do like a Pete the Cat bin, Little Critter, Dr.Seuss (Cat in the Hat picture), ABC books, etc. If you have many of one category such as animals, you could do ocean/water and land separate. For those with only a few, combine two groups in one box with pictures for both groups. TPT may have category labels with characters for you to use.

I would recommend categories for you library! (Not levels) I would also use bins for each category and not just have the books on a shelf because kindergarteners will struggle with putting them away cirrectly just on a shelf..

Yes, even just separating fiction and nonfiction would be easy but you can do more that are still broad enough like fiction animals books, or silly stories

And honestly just having several bins for fiction and several for nonfiction as your only two categories would definitely help develop their understanding of the difference between fiction and nonfiction which is a standard in most (if not all) elementary grade levels! 🙌

My name is actually Lawr-ee. Not Lori. An EZ grader is completely necessary for life! I use the protective sleeves for my curriculum binders. I keep a hard copy of worksheets I like to use for each standard. Keeps them organized and it is always good to have a paper copy of things. Digital is great, but sometimes internet things happen!

I have a general question for you, or any teacher here, about classroom wishlist items. Do you keep these items as yours? Example, if you move schools, would these items go with you? As a teacher, I feel torn if they should be permanently for the school or part of my supplies.
