I've played this game. I'm not sure why it's marketed as a romance. There's absolutely nothing romantic about the intimate relationships you manage to have... At least the ones I've had. It's really more about politics and if you ignore politics to play as anything other than a politician, you get steam rolled pretty quickly. It's pretty historically accurate in that way, or so I've heard. I found it pretty stressful because I don't like politicking my way through every interaction or face consequences.
I don't know, I'm romancing Madame Gazel and so far it's pretty great. But I do agree that overall the game is more of a a social climbing sim than a dating sim.
