Hi all,
this one is meant to evoke a feeling of place and mood, without giving any direction or imagery. While there are no real sounds (other than the rain) I've tried to hint at things, like distant conversations, phones ringing, or traffic.
Please leave a comment to tell me if you got anything from it.
this might not be particularly original but I wanted to do my own take on it. There are a bunch of videos out there that do the whole blade runner or cyberpunk ambient thing but a lot of them take the original sound track and stretch them out, maybe adding some rain. This isn't a bad thing and I love quite a few of them but I wanted to create my own.
The main reason for me doing this was to do one with more melodic content, that still remains ambient, with nothing to hum a long with. I wanted it to feel musical but let your focus wander, with the noise of the rain allowing you to sleep, or to focus on the task at hand. There are a bunch of studies that show how this type of broad frequency range noise can help the mind...
Anyway, this was all created on the wonderful Moog One with a handful of different rain recordings. The rain tracks evolve over time, using shaperbox to help add some additional motion, so the weather moves, with some animation to the cutoff to stop it feeling too static (and to mask the looping).
There are 14 tracks of Moog One in this piece. No loops, no sequences or arps. All played on the fly, using patches I created for this piece.
I have a few Moog One patches I'll be sharing soon too, so please subscribe to get notified of when I post them (probably early next week).
The video was made using Blackmagic Fusion.
Ok, I hope you enjoy.
Thanks
Rob

Extraordinary piece - deep and rich! I’ve been looping it constantly. I have a Moog One but mine doesn’t sound like this :)

Thank you! Glad you like it. I think it makes good background music. If you search my channel there’s a ‘Moog one free presets’ video. That lead brassy sound is there if you want it.

The rain is part of the patch but I feel you. Which sounds do you want to hear more of?

This is great, I like that the rain noise has been mixed relatively loud throughout and that the synth rises out of it, sometimes dark, sometimes sort of airy. The whole piece captures all of what I think of as the key points of cyberpunk as a mood: foregrounding change and evolution but thereby necessarily highlighting whatever remains constant. Turning all the 'technology' sliders up to 11 and make it look like that and resultant planet-wide natural forces have suppressed humanity, but human 'eternals' sort of push up through the paving stones and find a way around all the sci-fi stuff, maybe looking a bit weird above ground, but all from familiar roots. I know nothing about music except as a listener, but it seems to me that this kind of generative ambient synth meshes with those ideas 'all the way down'. In contrast with kind of Enlightenment ideas about the a march of progress from bad to good and ignorance to knowledge that is present in classical orchestral music, there're just sequences of differences in pretty much endless permutation, but all stemming from some constant parameters and simple processes, even if those are buried under layers of modulation. The enjoyment for me comes from exposing the contrast between the simplicity of the base and the complexity of the superstructure. You do that really well in all your videos, and this one too. Thanks for that experience.

Thanks Harry. It means the world that you took time to write that. I’m glad you like the experience and super happy that you got something more out of it than just what is immediately obvious. Thanks again. Rob

@@theoysterhouseboys Is the Moog One as good as a CS80?
@theoysterhouseboys
@theoysterhouseboys 3 года назад
John Anderson That’s quite the question! I guess it depends on your point of view. The cs80 is the king of all synths and has some magic mojo. I only had about 30 minutes with one but it was awesome. The one has elements of that. I’d say it’s more reliable (now) more versatile and is a better studio workhorse. The options are vast and the interface is brilliant. I’ll stop there but look out for my in depth review coming soon. At the end of the day it’s all about what allows and inspires you to make music.

@@theoysterhouseboys Ok I will wait for your review. I was impressed with the Deckard Dream synth demo on youtube. I will probably buy one of those or a rev 2.

John Anderson I’m tempted by a declares dream myself. I have a Rev2 and love it. Really good for brighter sounds and great mod matrix.
