This is beautiful. Ive been going through a stressful time recently, and its so nice to be able to just lie down and listen to you making these gorgeous ambient soundscapes. Honestly, Thank You.
Thanks for this (again!) beautiful performance👍👍👍. I agree with you that the COSMOS is a game changer! I was lucky to get one after waiting for too long, and since then I am using it in all my performances….it is so easy and intuitive to use!
Very interesting and educational, a great wall-of-sound with your gentle touch. Stayed for the entire performance. Thank you for your valuable contributions.
.................this is pulling lightfibres of Godly beauty From the deepest recesses of my soul....Ooooh ! Theres a planet here !? .I think I love you jay,-
I was already loving it, then you picked up the guitar and I made the Joe Rogan losing his mind face. Great stuff, man. I love longer ambient jams like this.
Beautiful... And quite impressive that it's live. Huge sounds from a not too huge set up... Small actually compared to others. It sounds like you're in a cathedral.
great! cosmos is awesome. me, i've been using multiple (deeply differing) looping devices for a few decades, myself, to similar (but sonically differing) temporal & atemporal effect.
Great composition as always Jay! Asynchronous looping is fascinating and the cosmos looks very cool indeed, although I didn't understand much of how it works! Hope to see more of it in your future stuff!
Interesting routing. Although I’m a bit confused about how the GR1 is playing; do you have audio from the synth playing into the GR1 as well, and then to the mixer?
My wallet has been demanding that I skip a few of your jams but this is bliss. The Cosmos is very much on the wishlist but also love what you're doing with the GR-1 - not really seen that before. Damn you!
Anyone who is simultaneously across the world's most inventive music company (SOMA), the world's best boutique pedal company (Union Tube and Transistor) and the world's best granular synth (GR-1), is a hero and must be respected. Get a Lyra-8!
Jay your content is simply some of the best on RU-vid. It's inspiring to see you use such a wide range of gear (with detailed usage instructions) to create wonderful, improvised musical compositions. Kudos! :)
nice video thanks. do we have to pay attention to the volume of sound that is inserted into the cosmos? I mean if the volume it receives is too high, could it damage the cosmos? I recently damaged a loop pedal :D
It will clip if you put too much into the input, but as far as I know, it won't damage the Cosmos. It does a great job of handling many layers of looping/sound without requiring much thought from the user.
so intersting, nuanced and minimal...............I'm truly seduced by the Cosmos, so I'm really happy to have found this...................awesome...............
Full ambient albums up at jayhosking.bandcamp.com, and some of them on streaming. This is my first Cosmos track, though (well, I just recorded another). And thanks!
Great stuff! really contemplating getting a soma cosmos. However I fear that it will be difficult to put a beat over such a loop due to no tempo/midi sync. Have you tried this, is it doable via ear to get it in 'sync'?
I'm sure it's pretty difficult, if not impossible, to get it synched to a beat. However, the Cosmos has alternate firmware that loops in a more traditional way, I believe. That said, for a synched looping, I might be inclined toward something that has MIDI for the tempo, like the RC202/505 or at least the 1440 or something. What works best for me and the Cosmos is the lack of structure and dreamlike quality of the looping, but I have thought about another looper on occasion. And thanks!
@@JayHosking thanks, that probably explains why all videos i see with cosmos are ambient style without a beat. Still nice though! But i will stick with my microcosm for the time being; which does have midi sync!
I love this! It’s funny, I can’t hear Moog leads in an ambient setting like this without thinking C418 / Minecraft 🧱 I’m not even sure it was a Moog used on that soundtrack, but it really sounds like it
You've played/used a lot of Moogs. Do you think there is one Moog you could pick to use to run through pedals and use for bass lines? I guess what I am really wondering is if one of the smaller and less expensive Moogs (eg Minitaur / Sub 25) could work or is the audio output quality better on say the Sub 37 or larger size Moog? Thanks
@@blindianajones I just run anything through anything, hah. I certainly am not very thoughtful about it all! But I definitely have preferences, analog through time-based effects, digital through "warming" devices, etc., but I say make up the rules as you go!
this is great it reminds me of the tiny forest spirits when all the delay kicks in .. sounds like granular delay vibes when you feed the Polymoon (?)... that gear must be so meditative to use :)
I think anything could work through the Cosmos, but I think it works best with performed (rather than sequenced) instruments, as the loops are out of synch. Might be worth just playing the pads on the Deluge, though
I love this! It is incredibly beautiful! Can't wait to get the Cosmos. The GR-1 seems to be an amazing piece of gear, too. Would you say it is intuitive to work with?
Sometimes I wonder if learning new synthesis like FM and Granular is less valuable than subtractive with effects design? Now, in the last few years we have access to high quality effects for 10% of the cost in the past...plus...these Cosmos manglers to add ideas we never thought of. I have been a subtractive designer for 30 years, but took on FM about 3 years ago, and, been wanting that Tasty Chips granular to learn a 3rd synthesis for years now (you could feature the TC granular anytime). I love hardware and that TC interface is beautiful. Was the TCgranular a good purchase for you?
