This is the 5th installment of renovating a 1999 ambulance and converting it into a custom RV. Many of the metal tools used in aircraft construction are shared in this project. The ambulance body is all aluminum in makeup so these tools are perfectly suited for creating windows and access openings where none existed before. Watch as the ambulance is slowly changed into an RV as windows, plumbing, and electrical systems are added.
We always try to include a Tip for builders in each episode!
Watch and enjoy.
It is too cold outside to work on airplanes for the time being!

I like to stain/seal all sides of wood like this to prevent differential expansion that can cause cupping and buckling. If only one side of the wood is sealed, the bare side will absorb humidity faster and expand which can cup the wood and if bad enough can cause buckling if all of the boards are butted together firmly. If each board swells just 10 thousands and you have 15 or so boards butted together, that is 0.15” if additional distance that will cause a lot of force if constrained. It is very easy to seal all sides of boards like this before they are installed and will greatly enhance the wood’s stability during humidity changes, especially if you take the time to seal the end grain after cutting to length.

If you were to attach wings and an empennage, it would be the conversion of the millennium! 😊

Looking good. Are you planning to finish this in time for OSH?

@HomebuiltHELP Jon, speaking of field tests, when can we expect to see the Affordaplane in the air. I'm sure there are thousands of viewers waiting with much anticipation for that great day!

Great work Sir, as with all your projects I want one 👍 BTW wondering why you didn’t make the door to the front cab full height rather than stooping through ? As it looks like you have the space. Cheers from 🇬🇧

The appearance is deceiving... that top edge of hatch is at top roof of cab. I enlarged the original small non-passable window that was originally installed!

Nice one mate just rewatching your video and yeah you’re right so keep on trucking 🚑 Just to add my ten-penny’s worth… you could make the shower‘step’ on a hinge so as to create a lower shower cubicle wall and saving more space for not having to stow it somewhere whilst you’re in the shower?? 🇬🇧
