A small space convoy of rebel transport ships and snubfighter escorts is enroute for Hoth, seeking to bring desperately needed supplies and reinforcements to the rebel base...
Thank you for watching Ambush at Derra IV - A Star Wars Fan Film! After so many setbacks and delays, I've finally finished it. This one is a bit unique to my channel in that it's not a part of the "Remnant" series - it's more a "prequel" to The Empire Strikes Back. Essentially, I was looking for ways to practice more character animation, so I decided to adapt the beginning of the Empire Strikes Back radio drama. I found these two scenes to be right up my alley, as it features a space battle, and then a relatively simple scene of two characters conversing.

QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE Where’s the audio from? The audio is actually from the 1983 radio drama adaptation of The Empire Strikes Back. I did some minimal editing to take out a certain part, and added some additional sound effects, but the writing, direction, and voice acting is all from the 80s! If you liked this, make sure to check out the original radio dramas! They’re all on RU-vid. Are you going to adapt any more of the radio dramas? Probably not. This was a rather unique scenario where I wanted to test out character animation, and these two scenes fit the bill perfectly: a space battle (kinda, you know, my thing) and then two people talking. I also didn’t want to have any big name characters in the scene, and the only character in this that is actually in the movies is Captain Needa (one of the guys that gets choked out by Darth Vader in ESB). How long did it take to do this? Roughly six months - six long, brutal months, with a lot of breaks in-between. What software do you use? A combination of: Blender (animation, rendering) Reallusion’s Character Creator and iClone (character creation and animation), Substance Painter (texturing), Adobe After Effects (color grading and additional effects), and Adobe Premiere Pro (assembly, editing, and sound design).

@kn3448
@kn3448 Год назад
@timonsolus Actually it WAS the norm. Until the battle of Endor, rebel forces were scattered and disorganised, particularly after the panicked evacuation of Yavin 4 and the Empire's reinvigorated effort to destroy the rebellion after the destruction of the first Death Star. During the tenure of The Empire Strikes Back and the preceding years, we see a rebellion broken by combat, scarce in resources and very much on the brink of defeat. I don't know what source material you're using but it's probably from the more modern take which presents the rebels as never-go-wrong perfect warriors instead of exhausted, desperate freedom fighters and the Galactic Empire as an incompetent, useless bunch of morons who don't even know how to operate their own hardware instead of a terrifying totalitarian dictatorship. God I hate modern Star Wars!

@@kn3448the rebels weren’t really so disorganized, they were trained by crix nadine and many others, and many were ex imps. In regards to what you said at the end about them (Disney) apparently changing the material of the rebels? I mean, I haven’t read legends but they’ve stayed the same since the old movies, some are more radical (Saw, Luthen) and the rest are less militant, no one in Star Wars is perfect, and the empire isn’t portrayed as incompetent, I’d love to see where you think that is shown

The empire was always ‘I want to rule the galaxy because I’m a sith. Now I’m going to blast you with lightning’. Vader gets redemption, but none of the others do at all. Then when things are crap, they roll heads, keep their jobs, hire and do the process all over again. Except when they get what they think is a win, they keep going with that bunch of people until the next failure, then they again roll heads and fire them and hire again.

Oh the memories! I can vividly remember listening this on NPR oh so many years ago with my sister as well as a certain young lady who some years later would become my wife. Listening to the battle is one thing, to see the creativity and hard work that you all did to create this visual masterpiece is truly superb WELL DONE

The radio plays (at least the first two, the third came after this time period) were a staple of road trips to the mountains with my father. Fond memories.

In the movies, the good guys almost always came out ahead. Videos like this show how tough a time the rebels had against the Empire.

Wow.. great job. My brother and i taped the Empire radio drama when it was brand new off Public Radio. Its was magical. I think it filled five 90 minute cassettes. It became our canon version. Thank you for this. Cheers.

If I had a nickel for every time a viral fan made animation depicted an amazing Star Wars space battle I’d have 2 nickels, which isn’t a lot, but I’m really glad it happened twice.

Total perfection. You people just managed to pack more Star Wars into four and half minutes of animated film, than the entire sequel trilogy. Bravo guys. I wish Disney had put creatives types like yourselves, in charge. People with true passion and genuine respect for the subject matter. Instead we got pompous hacks more concerned with their twitter feed and political ideology, and a guy with a creepy obsession with wolves. If only.

Nice! Always loved the radio plays, they were a staple of road trips with my father. Shows how good so much of the writing (thank you, wherever you are, Brian Daley) was. Love your modeling on Narra, and just the calm professionalism as he rattles off orders when the TIEs are coming in.

Nicely done! I've storyboarded this scene in my head more times than I can count since hearing SW/TESB:E1 back in '83 - I'm glad somebody actually put a bunch of time and effort and made this opening scene for real!!

Outstanding work, Sky Forge!! Until now, I’ve never seen an adaptation of one of the Rebel Alliance’s worst defeats leading up to Hoth! RIP Commander Arhul Narra and Renegade Flight.

This a freaking great video and the CGI is excellent better than some CGI we have today in some movies. I love how you developed the atmosphere and tone of the animation showing a convoy on their way to Hoth just to be intercepted by a horde of Tie Fighters and used the Empires tactics for the Tie Fighters which is to overwhelm the enemy with overwhelming numbers. Continue the great work

I am a huge fan of you and your work already but I cant share this video enough! You truly are one of the best Star Wars content creators on RU-vid. There are several people who already couldnt come close to your star fighting shorts! But you have just given the fandom something special with this one! ESB is the greatest SW movie ever made! You just made an addition to it that makes it even better! I had no idea there even was a radio drama and Im a huge SW fan from the OG era! But this captures perfectly just how much the Rebel Alliance was in deep dire straights despite the Death Star being gone! They awoke the wrath of the Sith! But it also gives us that great little added Captain Needa lore and detail how Vader already knew Luke was his and wanted the ship that ruined his victory that day! I share this anywhere and everywhere I can on Social Media and RU-vid! Keep it up please! We dont deserve the amazing content you gift us but definitely want as much as we can get! Thank you for all of it!
