Bro, Your videos are excellent. I am regular follower of your vidoes. I worked in US and currently in India. I have some better understanding. Here is my view. I agree single handing earning and saving is challenging in US. But at sametime saving in india also becomes too challange now. I hope you guys aware that 1 Lt petrol price is 100+. Which is intolerable. Here also taxes goes beyond 30% for 10lakh. Not only income tax, we are paying taxes for everything in India. We just pay for each and everything for example Highway toll amount, GST, other taxes for every purchase. Almost 50% in our salary we pay as tax. I am happy to pay tax, my concern is even we pay 30% tax we dont get any benefits from government. In US you get some tax benefits for dependent. We dont even have that benefit also. Cost of living and Inflation makes our life miserable in India. So net to net even if you earn more india now it becomes too challange.

Aarthi/Prem - in your budget, you have focussed on short term month to month living and did not focus much about long term benefits. I had a feeling you were recommending your audience that rental was attractive. In my opinion, rental living ends up in loss beyond a certain number of years like 2 or 3 years max. Start your home investment as early as possible. In your budget model, can you also focus on how mortgage expenses becomes zero after 15 yrs but rental payment is forever till one is alive. In 15 yrs, you will have property assets of $320,000 on fully paid home loan plus the appreciation value (3% per year) which is $96,000. So therefore, a homeowner in your model at the end of 15 years will have assets worth about $420,000 ($28,000 per year average in long term). Another angle to it is, because rental living means, one has to pay rent till they live, the benefits of 30 yr mortgage becomes attractive which is about $1700 as opposed to $2700 in your excel sheet (for single family home). So rental living sums upto a loss of $420,000 mortgage in 15 yrs. And in 30-yr model, majority of the people end up paying up home loans much earlier than 30 years. (Like in 22 yrs etc., unless a drastic unfortunate event occurs). Holding property assets are key because, it helps with an option to refinance and therefore, you use your own asset to fund some other new initiative you would plan in the future. It enables the option of getting cash back in hand thru refinance for other investments like starting a business, children college funds, another rental property down payment etc. The concept is that ‘money makes money’.So, holding cash in hand is important rather than paying off loans early. Wise thing to do is, using minimum money from savings that is needed to invest like down payment 10% or 20% for a house, 15% down for a depreciating asset like a car and so on. Paying interest is not a disadvantage, it is a benefit that allows you to retain and save a lot of money in hand to do other investments but still enjoy the full benefits of being a home owner, car owner and so on. But one must remember that ‘AGE’ or the ‘STAGE OF LIFE’ matters. In my model, it is important to ‘START EARLY’ in your 20s or early 30s and pay over long term, so that by the time you are in your 50s, all your loans are almost completed, and all your investments pay for itself. And retire solid so that you are able to fund your living and medical expenses yourself after your retirement.

For new drivers car insurance $150+. In the case of single family home, the amount you pay towards EMI as principal amount can be considered as savings as you get back that amount when you sell the house. Let's say you pay $2000 as principal then that can be considered as savings/investment. Excel sheet wrongly portrays single family home as loss
