Wish i was alive during the 70's, The music was great and life seemed so much better. No mobile phones in the crowd, everyone just taking it all in and enjoying the performance.
I posted this for someone else but in case you didnt see that: I was lucky enough to see many shows at that same venue and the beginning where they open the gates was such a great memory, These people paid about $3.50 for that show. We would wait on line all day , it was a party, then the pandemonium when the gates opened because it was general admission. But remember as Carly Simon said, these are the good old days, plenty of amazing music out there for you to make your own great memories. Enjoy.
We used to have a beautiful and peaceful country to live in. I challenge anyone of any race tell me things are better now than in 1979. We all got along after the hell of the early 60s. We shared music, joints and great times.
See this? These are musicians, not merely "artists" or "performers." They read music, they sing and don't "filter" or "pitch bend" (or lipsynch) their voices. They play physical instruments masterfully...huge difference!
I agree with everything except how do you know they can read music? A lot of musicians of that time just created music without being able to read. Ahem, Paul McCartney didn't read music. I never read music, but write my own. Some did, some didn't. Do you know they did? Otherwise, yes, real musicians who can play without autotune or too much filter (every singer adds some filter.) I cannot stand pop music of today. They just churn out the same music over and over again. It's pure crap.
There’s plenty of classic artists who couldn’t read music. Paul McCartney has even said that he may have been less adventurous in writing if he knew more music theory.
@@larryray86 Never mind them. It's typical nostalgic arrogance where every generation thinks their craft was the golden era and the new kids are "ruining" everything.
An amazing show and an incredible band. I was 16 and there with 10 of my friends. We are still friends today and have tickets to see America again in March 2023! Thank you SO MUCH for posting this and bringing to life the fantastic memories. We are all visible in so many audience shots ... Including our friend, the air guitar player! Cheers to 1979, NY, America, and Great Friends!
I’m 22 years old, and nothing will ever compare to this kind of music. 70’s will, in my opinion, be the greatest music ever. A gift from God himself!!!
REAL American music made by real talented musicians/songwriters!!! So thankful to be born in the 1960's, and be able to grow up with the greatest music in history!!

They are my heroes back when i was a kid. Their songs influenced me to appreciate music more. How i wish i was a kid in 70's coz i was in mid 80's, i might see them more in tvs during their prime years. Hey its 2024!

I was at this concert . . . trying to pick myself out of the pictorials. I was approximately 25 rows from the stage left of center-stage (when facing the stage). These guys were terrific. I worked at 9 West (57th St) right behind the Plaza Hotel !. So, it was a short walk to the Wollman Rink to watch the Dr. Pepper Concerts. It certainly brings back many memories of my younger days !
You still can- its all out there, listen to all of the great bands from the 60s & 70’s. It was a wonderful time to be alive and to be young! Using meant so much more, the lyrics, the vocals the instruments and just an excellence that you don’t see today. So welcome to the 60s and 70s.
They write it, play it, harmonize and its real. No auto tune, no lip synching, no backing tracks. Todays music is utter garbage. I say all the time, thank God i came up when i did.
Jw, did anyone think that was Steve Perry at 3:47 smoking a j? I honestly think it was. I had the pleasure of seeing these guys live probably 77 or 78. I heard a lot of this in my house. Thanks for posting this!
I've watched this Concert several times over the years and it's one of my favorite live performances. The crowd makes a big difference. I was 4 yrs old when this took place. My mom says I was born too late. I would love to go back in time to experience the 60s and 70s.
I’m from the Philippines. This band is famous all over Asia, especially my country. I was in my teen then and live singing their songs. We have playing record and songbook magazines with guitar chords like jingle song book and moptop. I’m glad to see their concert. I’m 65 years old now. I love dearly this band and will be forever grateful for their music ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
So talented. I just saw them in concert for the very first on 7/29/2022 in Petoskey, Michigan. They were great. My, God, Gerry was awfully damned cute back in the day. Swooning.
I love Gerry, he was HOT (still is it seems). America was my favorite group in the 70s. I saw them twice during that time - beautiful, wonderful memories. It's so nice to hear that they are still playing in 2022.
Great share, thanks They are such a sound, even if it's not your style of music it just sounds exciting and you want to hear it. They are really unique that way like seals and croft but I'm not shy to say that i think Dewey is the sound of America, that said, Gerry kept them alive through the decades with his passion for new material and his last unicorn writing was genius.
I saw America for the very first time at Schaefer Music Festival (s) in Central Park. Saw so many musicians early in their career America will always be in my heart and soul ; still have first albums and I was just 13!!! Saw them a bit later at Playland Amusement Park (I do believe) Grateful Amen Namaste 🙏 Cost: $5. Priceless
Hats off to a great drummer! All these years, I could gave sworn that was the late and great Hal Blane of the Wrecking Crew on drums. Hal was the quintessential studio drummer for just about all hit songs in the late 60's. And Willie Leacox was just as good. His drumming in the songs Sister Golden Hair and the Tin Man is just SUPERB! What a wonderful band America was. They write, sing, and play instruments, unlike many of the artist today.
I was lucky enough to see America in 1981!! at the Three Arts Theatre in Plumstead in Cape Town. I was 23 at the time and this band was one of the two biggest influences of my early acoustic guitar career. The other influence was Neil Young
it must be an incredible feeling to be performing one of your songs and looking out at a massive crowd. I think that's why there are still guys in their '70's doing it, it's addictive.
A great band of the 70s. Their music and song writing was awesome. It's nice to see and hear that 70s vibe again....makes me feel good to step back in time. I saw them play several years ago, and they still sound great! Thanks for the great music!
This concert was film live a long, very long time ago! Nonetheless, the colors are vivid fresh and the sound is crispy clear. That speaks volumes of the band caliber and those behind the scene!
Wow, what a fantastic performance. I’m so glad I found these guys. It’s funny, one day I was looking through my dads old music trying to find a Jim Croce record when I saw the album Hat Trick. I already knew America from Ventura Highway, so I gave the album a listen and from there I knew I found a new band to fully listen to. I can’t get enough of the great songwriting and I can only hope to catch them live someday with my dad.
I been that Amazing Show in 1979. That evening was magical. It was an time of escape. The lead singer Geoffy Beckah gave me a peronal conceet the Borders book at Union square in San Franciscon😅
Intro Tin Man Only Game in Town I Need You Foolin' Ventura Highway California Dreamin' Another Try A Horse With No Name All Night Here Hollywood Sandman Sister Golden Hair The concert was filmed by Australian filmmaker Peter Clifton in New York's Central Park in 1979. The footage was then combined with additional footage of the band in the studio and on location in California. The album also includes a full-length commentary by director Peter Clifton.
What talented musicians I wished the original members were there together when Dan was there, but this is just as good some of these members have been together for many years. Thanks Gerry Thanks Dewey.
America have been my idols since I was a child and will always be. I perform and analyze each of their songs on the keyboards in depth and it is an immersive joy for me, their songs give me infinite emotion!😘😘😘😘😘
BREAD (1978) - BBC-TV Special
