You are correct. In fact that snippet came from a speech where Reagan said "the most terrifying thing an American can hear is 'I'm from the government, and I'm here to help". You also something I have told several other reactors to this video; "1 to 1 is a proportion, 20 to 1 is ALSO a proportion....."

it is a proportion, it may be unbalanced but it is a proportion. also, you have the fact that one of the iranian frigates was spared from sinking, technically giving a returning and equal blow as the USS Samuel B Robert (FFG-58) as the Roberts did not sink.

I saw another video (it was either the unsubscribe podcast or when he did a collab with Mr. Terry History, it was one of two I believe but I can't quite remember where) where he explained that the "Fat" part was actually a joke with his wife and wasn't supposed to be permeant but then he got famous and now he can't change it. As for the "Electrician" part... he's a legit electrician.

Both of you jad me feel like I was viewing characters from "Stranger Things" reacting to a video! 😅 It still peeves me when people use "boat" and "ship" synonymously. Toys and models aside, boats are unable to carry ships! 😮 But anyway, "policing the world" is less about protecting the locals and more about preventing sneak attacks against us. After WW1 we let ourselves revert back to isolationism and Pearl Harbor proved that was a big mistake! So with WW2 we kept most of the Pacific Ocean islands that, well, some we took back, but some we didn't return because the price in blood was too high. And well, "Over Simplified" explains it better! 😎

Track is a military term not just navy. It means a number of things but honestly unless you were in the military it’s hard to understand the joke. We use track as civilians would use the word understand however it doesn’t mean we will necessarily do what is being said. The military works on a moral code and you are expected to follow that code even if your orders contradict it. So you may understand what someone told you to do and you may choose to ignore that for the good of the mission/ company/ extera. Disobeying an order is a big deal and you better have done it for a very justifiable reason and it had better work out the way you intended because if found out you absolutely do have to answer for it. So track can be used in that sense but also the sense you were saying that we don’t trust others outside our military or even just outside our unit. Trust is earned but never taken for granted. Bit of military humor in that it’s a very serious statement but the way most individuals in the military end up using it becomes a joke. Serious but still funny. One of those you have to have lived it to really understand the humor but I assure you that was ment to be just as humorous as serious

It's not necessarily that we WANT to, be we are "that guy" because nobody else can. And its the world that wanted us to police the world. We tried to stay out of 2 world wars and ended up in it anyways. We werent doing jack sh%% to Japan and they attacked us anyways. The Unit, Corps, God, Country isn’t something the Marine Corps typically says or uses. At least by the time I enlisted in the 2000’s. I think it’s more of a movie thing or it is something back in the 80’s. The only time I’ve ever heard that statement made were in movies such as A Few Good Men. We typically use Semper Fidelis, our core values (Honor - Courage - Commitment), Oohrah or shortened to Rah. Our core values were even misquoted in A Few Good Men, where he says Honor, Code, Loyalty in the famous You can’t handle the truth courtroom scene. It’s common for movies to get this wrong, and is probably done for many reasons, but if you didn’t serve you may not know. Oddly enough, in the TV show Jericoh, there was an episode that involved a group of people posing at Marines, but the audience didn’t know that at first. I remember watching that episode, hearing these “Marines” say Hooah (Army), I thought that Hollywood just got it wrong again. This became a point in the show that made the former mayor (who was supposed to be a former US Army Ranger) realize that these individuals were not Marines (along with other odd details that he caught that most people who didn’t serve wouldn’t have known). It was refreshing to see someone get these details right and I remember rolling my eyes to think holy shit, they got it right and even used it as a plot device.

The tanker escort mission was called Operation Earnest Will. When we would enter or leave the gulf through the Straits of Hormuz, Iran would light us up with their Silkworm missile radars. And steaming around in mined waters is rather nerve-racking. I was on the USS Merrill (DD-976), SAG B, during this engagement. We wound up doing all the shooting on the Sassan oil platform because Lynde B. McCormick's gun had dropped sync and was "walking" and they couldn't fix it in time. After the engagement we had a joke: How does the Ayatollah inspect his fleet... Glass Bottomed boat. The Soviet Udaloy destroyer was gathering intel. A few details wrong, but it doesn't detract from the story and NO ONE gets ALL the details right.. I love Nic's presentation. I've seen most of his videos and they are awesome.

19:24 the USS Enterprise is actually a long-standing name in the US Navy comma and the ship in Star Trek was actually named for CV-6 which carried the name USS Enterprise, The reason that the main ship in Star Trek carries that name is because the original Creator was fascinated by the ship's history. USS Enterprise actually still holds the distinct claim of the most decorated ship in the history of the US Navy

By the way, there's a respected Muslim scholar of the Q'uran who says that's a mistranslation. You see, it was written in the 6th Century and the modern Arabic word for Virgin is very close to the ancient Arabic word for raisin. So, when you take that into account, the promise is not that you will have 72 Virgins but 72 Raisins. Martyr: I'm here Allah, where are my Virgins? Allah: Here are you raisins! Martyr: In the words of the Virgin Mary, "Come again?"

Actually i believe it is our job to police the world, isnt it? I mean weve signed agreements with many countries, to defend. One can say thats the reason why though weve not had another world war in 80 years. Yet. I agree theres so much more we should be spendinv the money (because i believe we spend more like a trillion actually on military because they aren't going to tell you the real number) on. Literally. One write a long list. However, im from a military family with family currently serving and deployed, so im also not going to say the military doesn't earn it. Or their families because they serve too. Because i also think its easy to criticize the smount of money spent on our military after such a long peace (world wide, not more localized "police action"s like vietnam and Afghanistan), because then people will start to question as more and more if the generation that fought in ww2 die, not here to remind us that ww3 is always possible sadly, with the world as it is. Thats just the reality of it. Weve long ago established ourselves legally, financially in some cases, snd in practice have established ourselves as the worlds police. I can see bith sides of the argument. But family first, so i side with military here and if there is to be a ww3, ehich lets face it, were slways teetering on the brink of, who would you rather be in charge of your defense?

"In god we trust. In all other we track." - It's the motto in the Combat Direction Center onboard ships. If they can track you, they can kill you. The USN Submarine Service uses this motto a lot too.

32:34 He's just repeating what he's heard and playing off as if he is actually knowledgeable about these things. Let me put it this way: If you are going to be in a race, do you just buy a VW Beattle and call it a day? You want to win the race, so you buy exotic sports cars and you buy the best fuel, the best oil, the best crew, the best tires, the best training.... Over simplified, but so simple, maybe these two can actually see the point. We don't want to just show up, if push comes to shove, we want the biggest, badest, best of everything we can. Anything less would be a mistake. Yes, they are allies..... right now. Was Japan? Weren't they a close "ally BEFORE WWII? We were able to fight the Germans on one side of the earth and the Japanese on the other. You think a small military can do that? IF China decides to attack Tiawan and we need to protect our interest there, and we don't have a huge military, Russia sees a break and attacks Nato, we can't spread ourselves thin with a small military. Now, the "Speak Softly but carry a BIG stick." means, no one will bother you when you are carrying the big stick. China and Russia stay put for the most part as they do not want to test how big the stick is. If the stick was a little thinner, well, that could actually lead to people getting killed because wars would happen easier. I'm guessing these two are liberals, they THINK they know but are actually clueless. It's not nearly as simple as these guys try to make it with military spending. All other countries have enemies on their borders or really close to the borders. We have oceans to cross in a fight, so we can't rely on waiting until the show up at our door. China needs to spend on tanks for borders with India and Russia, Russia, with China and Japan, etc., etc. US has very few tanks compatibly speaking. We don't get to just set up at the border, we have to cross oceans. We need deep water navy and aircraft that can bring the fight to the enemy, not just a short hop skip and a jump.

I think I can shed some light on a few details: First, Ronald Reagan was a staunch republican who believed in smaller government, as part of the big communism fear of the whole "Big Brother" shtick. Reagan wanted out of the lives of private citizens stating that "The nine most terrifying words are I'm from the government and I'm here to help." Secondly, despite there being some truth that we don't need to be policing the world and should focus on a better quality of life on our own shores, we do have a large contribution in NATO, as much as some people don't like it, there's gotta be that one guy that is the Hammer, and something we learned from ww1 and 2 as well as a number of high tensioned issues currently overseas, part of our military doctrine is called the RRF or, 'Rapid Reaction Force'. It's a principle that allows us to launch a spearhead quickly into a conflict based upon the needs of the situation. Especially in response to Article 5 of NATO or other humanitarian aid. I do hope this helps, great reaction guys, the fat electrician is super good to react to. 👍❤️

China has 350 ships while America has 293. That said China only has 2 carriers while we have 11 carrier strike groups. 1 Aircraft Carrier, 2 Guided Missile Cruisers, 2 Anti Aircraft Warships, and 1-2 Anti Submarine Destroyers or Frigates is in each strike group. So China may have few more ships but what we roll with is unstoppable x 11

I don’t feel bad for Iran at all. I mean yes, the US probably should have paid up and also held back a bit, but at the same time, Iran put magnetic mines in international waters which isn’t just a war crime, it’s a freaking crime against humanity. Mines are really amoral especially when they’re used indiscriminately and placed in an area they knew ships were traveling that had nothing to do with their current conflict. It’s something that has to be punished…

I didn't know that about the tonnage. China has 2 million tons of naval vessels and the US has 4.3 million tons of naval vessels. I suppose the Chinese advantage is that they are concentrated in that one region while the US is spread out all over the world.
