America's Blood Centers Award for Linda Evans, Chief Strategy Officer for Community Advocacy 

The Desert Care Network team would like to offer congratulations to Linda Evans, our Chief Strategy Officer for Community Advocacy. She was honored with the 2021 Larry Frederick Award from America's Blood Centers and ADRP. This international association of blood banks recognized Linda for her work promoting blood donation in our community -- both in her hospital role and for her work as Mayor of the City of La Quinta. This is a video made for her acceptance speech at the organization's virtual annual meeting. Thank you Linda for all you do.
Blood donation is vital to the life-saving work of the doctors and staff at Desert Care Network, which is home to two trauma centers serving the Coachella Valley: a Level II Trauma Center at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, and a Level IV Trauma Center at JFK Memorial Hospital in Indio.
This award is named for Larry Frederick, a former police officer and now blood donation advocate. While on duty in 1982, Larry was permanently disabled by a traffic accident. A DUI driver, speeding at 65 MPH, struck him as he was speaking to a stopped motorist. To recover from his injuries, he required 110 units of blood and nine major surgeries.
